Particle man, particle man
Doing the things a particle can
What's he like? It's not important
Particle man

Is he a dot, or is he a speck?
When he's underwater does he get wet?
Or does the water get him instead?
Nobody knows, Particle man

Triangle man, Triangle man
Triangle man hates particle man
They have a fight, Triangle wins
Triangle man

Universe man, Universe man
Size of the entire universe man
Usually kind to smaller man
Universe man

He's got a watch with a minute hand,
Millennium hand and an eon hand
When they meet it's a happy land
Powerful man, universe man

Person man, person man
Hit on the head with a frying pan
Lives his life in a garbage can
Person man

Is he depressed or is he a mess?
Does he feel totally worthless?
Who came up with person man?
Degraded man, person man

Triangle man, triangle man
Triangle man hates person man
They have a fight, triangle wins
Triangle man

General Comment:Ha! Considering the recent Higgs discovery/confirmation, would be nice to hear a relavent interpretaiton. I thought about giving my own, but I'm not an expert in the *field* though I do get the notion this song really touches on the fundamental concepts/physics. Any ideas?

General Comment:Just a thought...could triangle man represent the [strong] forces of nature, that being the electromagnetic force, the strong nuclear force, and weak nucler force? (this is a very incomplete thought that I will have to sleep on), but it seems to satirically describle that all matter is unable to control the forces of nature; not man, God, the universe, or the atom, and is rather defined by it.

General Comment:I like namingway's idea about science, religion, fate and the common man - religion shits on whoever it can but nothing messes with fate. I have my own interpretation though. Triangle Man represents literary devices (like the "love triangle"). And sort of like in the movie "Stranger Than Fiction", it looks at how people within the literature (Person Man) are affected by that. Triangle Man does start a sort of love triangle himself, although, of course, it's based on fighting and not romantic attraction.

General Comment:Particle man is the atom, basic building block of our reality. What is he like? It's not important. From Aristotle to Neils Bohr, there have been many different models for what the atom is like. All of these models are different, useful to varying degrees, and totally wrong. Our most accurate model, Quantum Physics, only attests to measure reality in terms of statistical possibility. (see: Schrodinger's Cat). Recent studies of Dr. Nassim Harramein have concluded that atoms have an "event horizon" singularity identical to black holes.

The triangle is one of the oldest sacred symbols in human history. Here, Triangle Man represents the Illuminati, a global elitist cult who orchestrated the arms races and the wars of the 20th century. During WWII, all corporate-backed governments researched fission and atom smashing. They build the bomb. Triangle wins. Triangle man.

Universe man is the Creator, the conscious life behind the universe. The creator loves particle man, and indeed love is what binds our universe together. This is consistent with mystical teachings throughout history from St. John of the Cross to the Dali Llama. When the Minute hand, Millennium hand, and Eon hand line up, it's a "Happy Land", a new age.

Person man, person man, hit on the head with a class war. "Common man" represents 95% of the world's population and rising. The global elite have forced them all to live in garbage cans. Now with total control, there is nothing to stop the Illuminati from establishing a permanent slave class. We had a class war, and Triangle won.

Triangle Man hates Person Man. This basic principle, when understood, can explain many of the inequities and atrocities of the past century on Planet Earth.

General Comment:This is from a link posted a long time ago...if anyone would have read it...well that would have been nice.

In an interview with Peter Koechley , John Linnell had this to say:

We pretty much write these songs and let other people figure them out. I remember one thing that went into it was that we were watching Night of the Hunter or something on TV and somebody commented that Robert Mitchum reminded them of a triangle. Something about his body type. He seemed like this kind of evil triangle. That was one of the things that went into the song.

[People said that the triangle represented] the three branches of government or the holy trinity but that's not what it is at all.

Actually, "Particle Man" is a song. Any meaning gleaned from its lyrics exist only in the mind of the listener. All meanings are correct. All meanings are bunk.

General Comment:I don't know just who the hell Triangle Man thinks he is, but how dare he hog two verses to himself in a song about our hero Particle Man? It seems unfair to emphasize Triangle Man where his only accomplishment is to beat up both Particle Man and Person Man just because he hates them.

Having said that, though, I must admit that our faith in particle man may not be well-founded. After all, we don't really know what he's like, but there must be something if Triangle Man hates him so. But at the same time, Triangle man hates Person Man. What could Triangle Man have against Person Man, a person that has been clubbed in the skull with a cooking utensil and now spends his days depressed and living in a garbage can? Does Particle Man also hate Person Man, or are they partners united by their hate of Triangle Man?

Also a concern is, what is Particle Man doing underwater? Just what does it mean for all of us if the water actually does get him? Would the now him water in turn get us him? Is getting him a good thing, or bad? If bad, can we recover from catching the him?

Finally, what part does Universe Man play? Whose side is he on? He's usually kind to smaller men, but if he's the size of the entire universe (man) then Particle Man, Person Man, and Triangle Man are all smaller men. He could very well be on Triangle Man's side if he allows him to simply beat up the two others, especially when one of those two has brain damage from a previous encounter with a frying pan. Such an occurrence would explain the exception identified by the use of the term 'usually'. But why would his watch need minute, millennium, and eon hands? Does his watch face still go to 12? does this mean he wishes to measure up to 12 eons? For what reason?

    Fucked if I know.

General Comment:Person man = Clearly talking about humanity

"hit on the head with a frying pan"

-our heads are round, hinting what the author is talking about

"lives his life in a garbage can"

-we live our lives in our own trash

"is he depressed or is he a mess?
    does he feel totally worthless?"

-welcome to the feelings experienced by almost every human. "feeling worthless" is particularly relevant to the song as it is focusing on all the perspectives of the universe. It's easy to feel worthless when we compare ourselves to universe man.

"who came up with person man?
    degraded man, person man"

-once again looking at humanity's perspective on the universe. Asking who came up with person man is clearly our questioning of where we came from (ie. God)

Particle Man = represents particles, atoms, etc...kind of feel this represents science.

Triangle man = The church, religion. Putting down science. Putting down and controlling and subjugating the average person. Religion, our own construct, beats science and also beats humanity.

Universe man = The universe. Its the formulation of all time, from minutes to eons.

"He's got a watch with a minute hand
millennium hand and an eon hand
when they meet it's a happy land"

-When all of these hands meet, it will be the end of time.

General Comment:The Person man is us the hit on the head with a frying pan signafies us being clumsy and not caring about any of the other "men" ( i dont mean as in human man i mean triangle man etc) and how easily triangle man can beat us because of our arrogance

General Comment:No Ayyamana, we can't. This is a really good song though.

I deffinately gree that there is some deeper meaning to this song, but exactly what it is is really hard to say. I really like the Watchmen theory as it does seem to fit all the areas. wheather or not this was intedned is another story, it does kind of seem far fetched that they would write a song about the Watchmen and make it SOO cryptic. But it really wouldn't surprise me either way, i mean, they wrote a song that referenced the I love Lucy movie, so why not the Watchmen? the only problem I have is that while Particle man Sounds like Dr Manhattan, ozymandius doesn't hate Dr Manhattan and surely would not win in a fight, although he does get rid of him.

again, it is really hard to decipher a meaning. Maybe it is an accumulation of a number of theories and not just one. either way, great song
