I'm thinking of my soul's sovereignty,
and I know everything you hate in me.
Fill me up with over-pious badgerings,
to throw them up, oh, one of my favorite things.
Remember all the lessons fed to me?
Me the young sponge, so ready to agree.
Years have gone; I recognize the walking dead,
now aware that I'm alive and way ahead.
Too bad the things that make you mad
are my favorite things.
And I'm so happy.
I see you looking, I know that you're thinking
that I'll never go anywhere.
The things that I've done and the things
that I've seen, I don't really expect you to care.

General Comment:"Favorite things is my personal beliefs about religion and how it oppresses the things I enjoy the most. Unfortunately, the simplest things, such as thinking for myself, creating my own reality and being whatever the hell I want to be each day of my life, are a sin. To be a good Christian basically means to give up the reigns of your life and let some unseen force do it for you." - Brandon Boyd

My Interpretation:'I'm thinking of my soul's sovereignty'
Every man/woman is his/her own universe...

'Too bad the things that make you mad
    are my favorite things.
    And I'm so happy.'
Love the tone... Like what's your prob? I'm just doin my thing here.... You don't like it, leave me alone. The end.

General Comment:And something about this song -

God never hates your favorite things, booyd said that he likes to imagine or think and this is sin according to religion, it is partially true, to understnd the fucntion behind we have to first undrstnd the real meaning of sin. Sin is not technically a crime but it is something which distracts you from main purpose of your life on earth. A sin is like a fast flowing stream in which if you step you will be cast away even be4 u know and at the very next moment you will be at a place where there are other streams inviting you to step into them a whole network of confusing , unclear and false streams which will never let you know wats going on.

So, if you do these favorite things of yours, you step into one of these streams and you get distracted from your main purpose which is god, and this is when evil easily picks you up and make you his puppet, and you never know, he takes advantage of your freewill, he just advice you to do something (evil whisper) and you do it. This is all completely phenomenal. If you think tht this world is like a huge ride like one of those in disney land, and god is operating it with the control panel front of him then you are insanely stupid and stereotypical.

It is absolutely right that we enjoy doing certain things which are considered as sins and then you think - "too bad things which makes you mad are my favorite things". Actually god is offering you a life which is far more pleasureful then this wretched life could ever be. its like trading your iron coins for real and rare diamonds. How could you say that certain things make you happy, when you didnt even taste real happiness? its like a person saying you can get best apple pie at chuck's, next corner he makes best in the world, and that person has never tasted the apple pies they serve at st. regis.

General Comment:John, here comes your aide.

People who seeklogic bhind every thing, sadly have to get disappointed as to understand

logic behind god, they have to wait at least for 1000s of centuries as at that time they

might get a mind developed enough to understand and derive a logic behind theosophy.

Anyways, talking about freewill, many people or we can say almost all people do not even

understand the logic behind freewill (logic, which they seek so desperately!). Freewill is

not just liberty, its actually a curse casted upon humanity, now behold, not by god, but by

    evil.

God created man in his own image, and he placed him in eden garden, took care of him, gave

him everything, liberty and profusion, now here comes the evil, he offered a fruit, this was

the fruit of knowledge, after consuming this fruit, the human was demotioned to earth.

You know why the consumption of that fruit is called original sin? because it was the origin

of every sins possible, i.e. evil knew that human is the most dear to god, and human is free

to do anything, and was placed in heaven, if I (evil) can bring human downt to earth, I can

set him far from god, and in that case, if human will practice his freewill he would be

committing a sin because he is no more in heaven (since dynamics of heaven and earth are

absolutely different, if you know what i mean). Now human falls to earth, not because god

expelled him to earth, but because this was the reaction to the action he performed by

eating the fruit, it was phenomenal, this is how exactly things happen these days, you have

freewill , you can obey or deny god, you can even deny his existence, cuz god has given you

freewill, he is not going to be angry or something, but as you would deny god, you will go

far from him, and thats when evil would claim you, look, its like you can go far from light,

but then you have to go in dark, you have to either choose light, or dark, if you chose one,

the other would be gone, there is no choice in between, this is again phenomenal this is how

this world is, it is phenomenal, look, to bring down human on earth, and to take advantage

of human's freewill is all evils plan, god is just, he is not gonna punish you even when you

gonna deny him or whatever, but then you whould be ready to serve evil, which is seriously

gonna be very painful, god never ordered humans to serve him, he always desired our love,

whch is more then enough for god, he has angels and uncountable servants for him who love

him and serve him with a passion we cant even match or cant even imagine.

Now I will address the question that if god exists.
You can mention countless no. of theories to falsify religion. including religion is

administrative conspiracy to govern people easily. If you are demanding proof that if

there's god , well here's your answer- there's no proof at all, and even if it is there, i

dont need it or m nt gonna explain it to you, cuz if you will make your choice based on

proofs , then you are a real stupid and a part of typical mass, since proofs can be created

and designed such tht they look real then the real, you say earth is round , cuz you studied

it, but have you ever seen it from space? you didnt see it yourself and you started

believing cuz you read it in some book and you have been hearing it reading it continuosly

around your world, so you start believing that earth is spherical, do you even know the real

meaning of proof? do you even know how to confirm things? you are a part of mass which can

easily fall for a carefully designed systematic propaganda. Next time you ask for proof only

when you are really capable of identifying the truth.

And here is th nutcracker, according to a psychological research, the people who condemn or

deny god are actually those who have a firm belief that there is god, and they condemn or

deny him to express their anger or dis satisfaction to god, exactly like children gets angry

with their parents and express their anger by saying that you are not my father or you dont

love me i know or something like that, or exactly like a lover who feels cheated or

neglected and then acts out of anger or dissatisfaction. So, you are totally wrong and out

of knowledge, a man should either have all knowledge or none, as the partial knowledge

brings disasters. however, you can still go on and bring up stupid facts and questions which

are not worth knowing and cant be answered respectively, but i hope that you will not at

    least chose serving evil amen.

My Opinion: Although I do partially agree with this perception of "controlling your life", I also believe that humanity should cogitate our creator and study Him and do what is being asked of Him. How can we as humans, with such profound intelligence, and absolutely mind bottling creativity, be so stubborn and not acknowledge a higher being, one who created us? If there was no God, or higher being, so to speak, then how did we gain such an astonishing mind to think how we want to move how we want? There has to be a God. Apparently Brandon doesn't believe there is, that's his opinion. But really, a monkey? We came from a monkey, that sounds like such bull.

General Comment:This is the greatest song of all time. It's about how she's trying to take away his fun. His favorite things to do are despised by this woman of his. So to enjoy something great is to piss her off. Even tho having a bad past doesn't mean that life wont have a good outcome. You may see a dead beat when you look at me but, I don't expect you to understand what I've seen/done in my life.

General Comment:Its weird cause I was raised Christian, but growing up I realized its not fun being a good Christian lol...I believe in God & everything but don't really like religion at the same time, I think you should be able to live however u want.I hope that doesn't make me a hypocrite, but I love Brandon Boyd & to be honest this song made me think about that when I first heard it.

General Comment:Well, unfortunately i think alot of yall got it wrong. He is not saying he hates God or doesent believe in higher powers in this song. What he is saying is that we shouldnt, as he said "give up the reigns of our life" to this being.

Brandon also stresses that he is against organized religion. And not only that, but how the minds of little kids are being engraved with how they are supposed to live before they are old enough to understand the situation. ("and you the young sponge, so ready to agree") and honestly i think thats the biggest thing. Whether you want to believe in God or not, thats up to you, but dont let anyone tell you what to believe.
