Lyrics for Eulogy as interpreted by implode

Eulogy Lyrics
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

So long
We wish you well
You told us how you weren't afraid to die
Well then, so long
Don't cry.
Or feel too down
Not all martyrs see divinity
But at least you tried

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all

But it was so loud
You sure could yell
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fucking lie

Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you fucking lie

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

You had a lot to say
You had a lot of nothing to say

Come down
Get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr

To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye...

Haha, you told me to kill myself.

Take your own advice.

Grow up too. That is before you terminate yourself; you wouldn't want a depressing nostalgia left behind.

Although, I'm sure your dying day would be a surefire date to look forward to...for a good laugh.

Don't come here telling people to kill themselves, and acting like you know something.

You know nothing, so drop the rhetorical presentation that's brimming with stupidity.

What are you attempting to prove?

I guess you've got something to prove, too bad for you.

How can you honestly say that you know something about me?

Grammar doesn't have anything to do with "trying to look clever"...it simply has to do with competency.

Insecure because of your public display of stupidity?

Spare me.

McDonalds? Please...

When you can say that you actually have knowledge of me and not be foolish in the process (i.e. knowing nothing), then you can talk.

Until then, you're just a number with a name, with a time and date marking your insignificance, and you equal less than the fecal matter up my asshole.

So you can continue with telling me to walk blindfolded into the middle of a road, or telling me to kill myself (apparently because I'm actually competent), but remember this...you're nothing, nobody, zero, meaningless, words, and a little boy who tells people to kill themselves through internet platforms because it gives him the power that he lacks in real world interaction.

You stupid little computer geek.

Quit huffing the keyboard cleaner.

Go read a book. Go back to school. Anything.

Your presence here is degrading to yourself.

Why do you think you know anything about me? I actually contribute to society, you on the other hand help ruin it. And no, I actually told you to kill yourself because you wouldnt be missed.

It can also be interpreted to just generally be an anti-conformity song and how people are just so "Eager to identify". That's just a thought. But it's most likely against following leaders who are basically all just liars who severely manipulate and never really give what they promise to give.

This song is about L. Ron Hubbard, Founder of Scientology and the Church of Scientology. Scientology in itself is a greedy cult that sucks its members dry of their funds and promises "spirtual fullfillment". People starved and looking for something more in life easily fall into the trap of this shit-fest. This works with the lines:

"Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me"

The "Someone who would die for me" is especially key. A leader such as Hubbard promised life and fullfillment. Possibly he offered to die for his followers, I don't know. But this ties into the lines:

"You've claimed all this time that you would die for me
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?"

Hubbard died unexpectedly and his core followers cremated him before an autopsy. So he never meant to sacrifice for his followers, and never meant to die. He was just in it for the money. A cheap old man sucking material funds from starved souls. What a fucktard.

It makes perfect sense that Maynard would write a song about this guy. Maynard is highly interested in the paranormal and vast insides of our potential. He would surely get upset by a counterfeit organization like this.

Anyone ever notice the sound in the beginning? Sounds like a hammer hitting a nail, possibly into a cross?

I don't think thers really anything deep about this song or any of the other crap that is put out by bands put out these days. I think this song was just part of the new and popular trend of trying to bring God down to our level. Look at who is popular now days. Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Disturbed, Marilyn Manson. Its all the same immoral, God bashing, selfish crap. There's a trend.

If any one on here has ever heard Bill Hicks "Arizona Bay" cd, then you'll start to hear where tool got most of there inspiration from.
Bill Hicks was an idealist, and saw things in a way that most people dont. The whole Ænima cd was actually dedicated to Bill Hicks. Songs like "Ænima"
areclear references to his philosophy and vision of Los Angelas. Eulogy, is just about Hicks himself.
Listen to Bill HIcks "Arizona Bay" and "Relentless" cd's and hopefully you'll start to understand more.

To me, it's about people who appear to be so willing to give everything for others, be it Hitler (note: appear to be), Jesus Christ, our country's leaders making promises before electrons and stuff. This song questions how far they are willing lie to make up for their false sincerity. In a sense, the song is also saying that if you want to prove yourself as a true leader, then you have to make the "supreme" sacrifice as Jesus did, as in:

"To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye..."

Personally, I agree to certain aspects of this song, not all, as Tool tends to be rather intense.

I think for the most of you that have heard the lyrics for this song track, you have seriously missed the point.

The song is about a selfless, angry, frustrated, attentionless, incredible person that Maynard's persona new in this song, but when he was in so much pain because of everything around heim, he killed himself.
Now Maynard viewed this person as near iconic, 'holy man' persona. Maynard really loved this friend of his. He was special, and captured his awe, just like that of another 'holy man,'--aka Jesus Christ.
Now the twist to this is that Maynard is so loud and angry in this song, is because in the Bible, if you kill yourself, its a garanteed ticket to hell. When Maynard hears this, he becomes angry.
How can Jesus die for his beliefs with such a life about him, but when it came to maynards friend, he didnt save Maynard like he preached he would. This makes Maynard question his beliefs in religion, about how unfair loosing someone so special to him could be damned, yet when Jesus comes along as an almighty figure that Maynard could give a shit less about goes to heaven, and yet in his eyes he views both of thier deaths in the end as rather needless and stupid.

"You claimed all this time that you would die for me then why then are you so suprised when you hear your own Eulogy.

Would you now, would you die for me, dont you fucking lie..."

I agree with maynard in this case. Loosing someone special for thier own selfish desires is foolish, aimless and aggrivating. It hurts.

this song is about either politics or religion he is talkin about someone who has sumthing to say but isnt really saying anything important at all its about how we as a society look at religious/political figures as a type of "savior" when really we just have to look with in ourselves to find the answer in the song maynard realizes that the guy is a fake "would u die for me?" "dont u fucking lie" hes found out that the guy really isnt trying to do anything for maynard but only for himself thats why in the next part of the song maynard realizes that all these kinds of people are just morons who are all goin towards the same thing: their own personal needs

but as with all tool songs it could mean any number of things we could all be right or we could all be wrong
