Lyrics for Eulogy as interpreted by implode

Eulogy Lyrics
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

So long
We wish you well
You told us how you weren't afraid to die
Well then, so long
Don't cry.
Or feel too down
Not all martyrs see divinity
But at least you tried

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all

But it was so loud
You sure could yell
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fucking lie

Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you fucking lie

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

You had a lot to say
You had a lot of nothing to say

Come down
Get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr

To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye...

If this song is about L. Ron Hubbard can somebody tell me about him and how it attacks him?

The song is clearly about Jesus Crist.
He was basically a martyr.
Just read the end of the song.

"Come down
Get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr

To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye.."

The sarcastic tone used in the song really brings out Maynard's contempt for organized religion. It isn't a shot at L. Ron Hubbard. Nothing in that song gives the slightest hint that it's toward L. Ron.

the song points out how hypocritical Christians are.... by saying they are always trying to act better and pointing at everyone elses' faults...

So basically he thinks that if the people that represent God are such hypocrites than God must also be a hypocrite.

I think it's indirectly about L. Ron Hubbard. I also think it's about Jesus, religious leaders, and political leaders. L. Ron would fall into the religious leader category(damn cultists). I think it's about people who promise everything to gain support of the people, yet they don't believe nor care about what they're preaching. Or maybe it's about how people tend not to care about someone when they're alive, then suddenly believe or claim to believe(to fit in)everything the person spouted out was true after they've died. "No way to recall, what it was that you had said to me, like I care at all. But it was so loud ,you sure could yell, you took a stand on every little thing, and so loud." I could be wrong(and most likely am) but that's my enterpretation of it.

Probably the most spiritually chalenging song. He probably wrote this on a angry consious. I believe it is about jesus and somewhat about all religion. It is ment metephorically and literally. It is saying that these people think there all just and doing the right thing for something they dont even belive in.. and in some way's no one cares, they need him to get down off the cross, or stop trying because its not working, religious figrures arent high and mighty there just people who think there doig something good but it dosent work. at least thats what i think he is saying.

Maynard is challenging the organized religion perception of christ. We make him out to be such a great person that he would die for us. people who join organized religion seem to be looking for something more. They see christ as such a hero, and Maynard is making fun of how human we make him out to be. To do this he says in the simplest form. " he's dead and who cares. He said alot of nothing whooppty doo."

I think this songs about equality.. just yanno. saying that everyone who thinks they're better than one another should get off their fucking soapbox and realize we're all in this together. It makes references to Jesus.. but i think its about all leaders, and just people that think they're better than the others.

Ok, I think this song is about fake Martyrs and shit like that. People who always say they believe, and when put to the test, back out on their faith.

This song's theme is the exact same theme as Living Colour's 'Cult of Personality'
"He had a voice that was strong and loud and I swallowed his facade cuz I'm so eager to identify with someone above the ground"

I think superman9k has the most realistic aproach to this song. this song makes me doubt what i think i know about organized reliogion and makes you angrey at the martyers that seek fame and praise. i completely hear the sarcastic tones of maynards voice and those tones are why i love this song

The song is about Jesus. He doesn't refer to anyone in plural in this song. "You told us you weren't afraid to die" is a big load of crap Jesus was scared to die. Anyone would be if you got crucified and I don't see the humor or the truthfulness in it (sweetlilibug that means you). In Christianity the belief is that Jesus died to take away the sins of those who accepted him and recieved him as their savior and were guaranteed eternal life. The song is obviously about Jesus being crucified and Maynard's sarcasm is the fact that he wrote a Eulogy to someone he doesn't believe in. It is strictly about Jesus and theres no if ands or buts about it. "To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye..." If you read in the Bible you may just find out what the heck he's talking about because it fits. And it's only a shame to see someone with such good talent have to go to hell for his incompetence as a person even though he is very wise his wisdom won't do him much in hell sadly. :( So maybe we should all write a Eulogy to Maynard and throw sarcasm in it, because I'm sure he'd love it :P

Does anyone know if Maynard was raised as a Christian against his will, something to create this spite for Christianity? Cause if he was raised strictly Christian against his will, then I have a killer interpretation for The Grudge, and then it'd also explain opiate, eulogy, and judith.

wait a second.... Im a little confused as to why someone with athiestic in their name is talking about the bible and knows so much about jesus. hmmm.. Oh btw, God is like Santa Claus.... If are good you get gifts....if you are bad you get a lump of coal (in reference to fire no less.) And that is why i dont believe in god because so many other things are based on that same thing. If you are good, you get good things, if you are bad, you get nothing. It started off as a good idea but over the years MAN corrupted it, and had different opinions of what was right and what was wrong. (I wrote about this in an essay, once). Anyway, all im saying is someone made up god. to teach the masses right from wrong and get them under control, HOWEVER, the problem occured when other people put their own input into it. And it DESTROYED the idea, which is why there are so many different religions today. Sad isn't it?

This song, to me, is coming from the point of view of a once follower of a so called martyr. In the beginning with the lines" He had a lot to say, he had a lot nothing to say, We'll miss him", he's saying how this martyr was a man with great words, but now realizes how much of a fool he was.
Also with lines like:
"Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fucking lie "

The follower explains how he was looking for someone to lead him, to guide him, how he wanted someone to look up to, someone who would die for what he believed. But then he realizes that this martyr, at the face of death, refuses to die out of fear, which turns the follower's hopes upside down.
Then it ends with:
"Come down
Get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr

To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye..."

Through hatred, at the end, the followers of this martyr kill the man they looked up to.
This is just my belief on what the song means. It may vary from person to person though.
