Lyrics for Eulogy as interpreted by implode

Eulogy Lyrics
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

So long
We wish you well
You told us how you weren't afraid to die
Well then, so long
Don't cry.
Or feel too down
Not all martyrs see divinity
But at least you tried

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice that was strong and loud
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart
We'll miss him
We'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all

But it was so loud
You sure could yell
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud

Standing above the crowd,
He had a voice so strong and loud and I
Swallowed his façade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground,
Someone who seemed to feel the same,
Someone prepared to lead the way, with
Someone who would die for me

Will you? Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fucking lie

Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you fucking lie

You've claimed all this time that you would die for me
Why then are you so surprised when you hear your own eulogy?

You had a lot to say
You had a lot of nothing to say

Come down
Get off your fucking cross
We need the fucking space to nail the next fool martyr

To ascend you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye...

My most fave Tool song.

I don't think its just about Jesus (I'm a Christian, so its pretty obvious that the song means something else to me)

I think its about those damn fake preachers, and the people you think you can put your trust in... but you still know they aren't gonna pay you back... or go out of their way to do something.

I also see abit of Hitler bashing in this song...

JMO...

It could mean something else... but It wont stop me from liking the song...

it just sounds like hes going through the anger stage of getting over a death. in the first half of eulogy, bill hicks is the one that pops to mind, then i imagine maynard screaming at his grave. i dont know much about L. Ron, but i guess you all could be right. i still think its about hicks though.

hicks wasnt afraid to die. "its just a ride" and he got off, thats all.

when it says "Get off your fucking cross" i imagine hicks doing his rutine about advertisements. "its jesus for miller" he holds up his arms as if he were on a cross. "it dont get much better than this jesus."

you all could definatly be right, but i doubt it. the album is about bill hicks and philosphy. There was shit about L. Ron in AEnima, but even that one was Hicks'.

This is obviously about Bill Hicks. Aenima was pretty much dedicated to him. Hicks used to open for Tool at some shows and had become good friends with the band. He was also one of the greatest comedians and social critics in American history. If you haven't heard ALL of his shit, i recommend that you do so immediately. Once you've heard his shit, listen to the song, and you'll see why it is definitely dedicated to him. p.s. Why would Maynard write a song called "Eulogy" for L. Ron Hubbard, if he says "fuck L. Ron Hubbard" 11 tracks later?

Oh, and the song has nothing to do with "anti-Jesus" or "anti-religion". I don't understand why some people have to perceive anything to do with the "rock" genre, "metal" in particular, as being against religion. Listen with your ears and not your ass.

i seen a live video of eulogy on youtube and it shows the instrument maynard uses to make that fucked up noise at the start of the song. it's like some kind of fucked up gun thing that he talks into and holds the mic up to it. wtf is it

Alright, I dont feel like getting into little details with this song, accept it, its about Bill Hicks. Bill Hicks sayed on stage that he was the Anti-Christ (HILLARIUS btw). and he latter spoke with the band (Tool incase you are an idiot) in private...what else would they mean by

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all

and Bill Hicks was at the time considered SO offensive, sarcastically explaining the line

Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you step out of line
Don't you fucking lie

please beleive me, I dont feel like getting to indepth with it right now...

Joemmm: It's not an 'instrument', it's a megaphone.

I won't even get into my opinion of the song's lyrics. It seems opinions are frowned upon here.

I've been reading song meanings for Tool the last couple nights and what I've learned is this. Tool fans make the song mean what they want it to mean.

I'd have to go with Bill Hicks personally.

Those who have "traveled" the spritual realm will recognize that tools music, in it's superhuman precision and sychnoristiy of sound is otherworldly in origin, an existance that is so much more profound that ifrom different sources to be not from this world. n is synchronized soas coming from an otherworldly, superhuman source that has an existance so far superior our own so much more profound and permenant to this worlds. This song is actually about the bands close friend Bill Hicks who died due to Pancreatic cancer in the year 1994. For those who know about him Bill Hicks was a successful comedian who often was outspoken about political and social issues. Indeed a version of the Aenima Album (1996) showed a portrait of Bill Hicks and many songs in the album are dedicated to the man. I think that this is a beautiful song dedicated to a dear close friend that passed away before its time. RIP Bill =

SEE, I can't even put words! I think Maynard's lyrics stems from his experience of the higher spiritual plane so he sees the human existance in a lesser light, almost fantasizing with his lyrics as if executioner. The salvation that is theoretically available to all of humanity he makes on what grounds? His superiority? Eulogy is in stark contrast to his other lyrical works in that he doesn't mix words or hide his disdain for saving a person from the prison that is this earthly body into evelasting life on the criteria that you treated your fellow man as you would want to be treated... Okay Maynard is one ugly piece of shit if these words come from his heart or mind.

That's it, when is that metereor gonna hit us, anytime soon.

Okay, so whoever the fuck says this song is about Bill Hicks is just flat out RETARDED. This is clearly very negative and sarcastic. Tool held Bill Hicks in the highest regard. Why the fuck would MJK say "He had a lot to say, he had a lot of nothing to say" about one of his heroes? Translated for you dumb fucks, this line means that this person spewed alot of nonsensical bullshit. Bill Hicks had alot to say, yes. And it was very comedic but not at all anywhere close to meaningless garbage. THIRD EYE was a tribute to Bill Hicks, captain oblivious, not this hateful angry sarcastic shit. There was an interview that Tool did on the radio, me thinks, if I can recall correctly where they were asked who this song was about and Justin said something like: "It's about L. Ron Hubbard, alot of people think it's about Jesus but it's not."

Yes, ladies and gentlemen. Lebron Hubbard. This song is showing the band's disgust at the man and his followers and those throughout history like them. Despite the fact that he is a fucking SCIENCE FICTION AUTHOR who stole form his followers and preached about aliens who threw people into volcanoes and et cetera, those Scientology nut balls are still so weak and insecure (and not to mention psychotic) that they choose to follow him despite all this.

I like the guy who said that this is about Hitler. I applaud you, for you seem to have quite a good number more brain cells than some of these asshats. Read the lyrics over and over if you have to. TRY your hardest to pick up the sarcasm. This is a NEGATIVE song about those with charisma i.e. dictators, leaders, politicians, martyrs, religious assholes who brainwash and prey on the weak. Those who in their minds are the righteous and just but in fact they are PURE EVIL.

Thank you. Have a nice day. I can understand why the band hates most of you "fans".

Dude. The ENTIRE Aenima ablum is deticated to Bill Hicks. When one of the songs is titled eulogy. Who do you think its about? When they describe someone as "standing above the croud" with a voice that was "strong and loud" and Bill Hicks was a comedian...WHO DO YOU THINK IT WAS ABOUT? God everybody is so anti-christian they are ready to fight to the death to shame jesus. I am no christian but I am resonable and know when a song isnt about Jesus. Get over it.

Hey, Dude! The entire album is not dedicated to Bill Hicks. What, did you guess that just because the audio clips on Third Eye? Oh yeah and it is titled Eulogy, good job you stated the obvious. But it doesn't imply that its about Bill Hicks. Jesus and "Lebron" Hubbard both died. So it could have easily been about them. Oh yeah and those two lines you took out of the song sure do define a comedian. But if you listen to the rest of the song it clearly points to a religious figure of some sort. Do you just skip past the parts of "To ascend you must die, you must be crucified." and "Get off your fucken cross" and the numerous uses of the word martyr? Oh yeah many people are anti-christian now a day... but this song clearly has to do with religion, so why is it so absurd to see so many anti-christian comments? Before you come out and comment claiming to know what this song is about, actually listen to and read the lyrics. Don't just single out two lines to support your opinion, Idiot. Hmm, now how to end it... how bout "Get Over It".

Youre fucking stupid alright. Go ahead and live in youre own fucking denial. I dont give a shit. Youre kidding yourself. And dont critisize me for pointing out the obvius since you clearly dont bother t do anything with this song but scratch the surface. Oh and by the way, yeah the album is FULLY deticated to Bill Hicks. They say it right on the album cover. Their website even said every song was atleast partially inspired by Bill Hicks, from Third Eye to Fortysix & 2. I am not going to bother trying to convince ignorant judgemental idiots so go ahead and live in denial.

Wow, you sure come off as a intellectual person. Calling me stupid while you can't spell simple words like criticize and shun proper punctuation. Yes they said that they were were inspired by Bill Hicks, that doesn't mean that every song is about him. If you don't care to figure out the true meaning behind music and tell yourself that your right all the time, go ahead. Oh yeah they don't say the whole album is about Bill Hick at all on the cover you idiot. Perhaps the artwork made you think that way? I see how pictures easily persuade such a complex being such as yourself. Oh yeah and enlighten me what is 46 & 2 about? I'll be delighted to pick apart your intricately designed explanation. I've got to admit though you have creative endings. Let me quote you one last time, " I am not going to bother trying to convince ignorant judgemental idiots so go ahead and live in denial." Turns out your words came back and bit you in your nearly illiterate ass.

Hypocratical of you to make stupid jokes in grammer when you wrote were twice. So stop trying to be a fucking know-it-all about grammer. Sorry I can't spell but I can sure as hell outmatch in moral values. And I fucking know that every song isnt about about him god damnit. I only have one qeustion then. What do you think the line

No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all
means?
What do you think Maynard has spoken with Jesus? And fortysix & 2 is about his "Time to Evolve" clips. Stating how evolution didnt end with thumbs , again one other fact that was posted on their website. And I am not even going to bother reading the rest of you're message because I don't give a shit.
