Lyrics for Bodies as interpreted by Ice

Bodies Lyrics
cast the pearls aside, of a simple life of need
come into my life forever
the crumbled cities stand as known
of the sights you have been shown
of the hurt you call your own
love is suicide
the empty bodies stand at rest
casualties of their own flesh
afflicted by their dispossession
but no bodies ever knew
nobodys
no bodies felt like you
nobodys
love is suicide
now we drive the night, to the ironies of peace
you can't help deny forever
the tragedies reside in you
the secret sights hide in you
the lonely nights divide you in two
all my blisters now revealed
in the darkness of my dreams in the spaces in between us
but no bodies ever knew
nobodys
no bodies felt like you
nobodys
love is suicide

Great song. What does it mean though? Is it about losing the affections of someone you care for greatly and the feelings of lonliness and despair?

You love someone intensely, you burn cities down and hurt yourself in your mind, call all the pain in the world your own, and yet there is nothing quite like that person whom you're ripping yourself apart for. The song directly addresses that person... It's a lament from the inside out.

Haven't any of you been depressed? Love is Suicide. When you love, you become hopelessly devoted.. And then eventually, they will leave.. And your life crumbles apart..

Use ya heds, foos! Great song, by the way.

this song expresses only one side of the spectrum of human emotion. i'm just glad billy corgan was more well-rounded and made "mellon collie ..." cover all the emotions.

To me, the line "love is suicide" has always referred to the fact that every relationship you will ever be in will eventually end. So, no matter what you do, the connection or love you share with that person will die. It's hopeless, you're killing yourself by being with that person. Alas, people do it anyway, day after day. And I don't know what you mean by Mellon Collie being "well-rounded". It covers a vast spectrum but the entire album is very sad - I don't see any happiness in it, at all. Billy Corgan's entire song portfolio has always been overwhelmed with sorrow. Just be thankful that he has been able to shed light on the tragedies of life through his poetry and music. To paraphrase a great quote I saw once "There is no theme to MCIS except a really sad guy that writes great songs".

there are two ends to love. either the person you love stops loving you and leaves, which is horrible, or one of you will die and leave you still in love and alone. these are the only two possible endings.
Love Is Suicide = Genius
anyways, that's what i think...

DeathRockBoy - "I don't see any happiness in it, at all"

Have you even listened to the song? What about
Tonight, tonight
Galapogos
Muzzle
Porcelina of the Vast Ocean
Take me down
Thirty-Three
In the Arms of Sleep
Beautiful
Lily (my one and only)
By Starlight
Farewell and Goodnight

It seems to me that there are quite a few happy songs in Mellon Collie, so perhaps you were getting it confused with a different album.

And the line "Love is Suicide" is just plain brilliant. You can really see Billy Corgan's genius coming out in that song.

I think it's a metaphor on love and life using clams. Pretty raw song. Just thinking about it makes sense.

i don't think it necessarily means that you'd kill yourself for someone. more that the real you dies as you become the person that they want. you change to make the other person happy, but as you do you notice all the other bodies on the floor from boyfriends past...

love is suicide. Mx.

In the end, love will always kill you. It's what hurts you most in life. When someone breaks your heart you want to die, everyone does. Great song.

I might sound a little foolish, but it seems that Billy has a very sincere relationship with God. I mean, look at Zwan. Think about the lyrics to this song.
"Cast the pearls aside, of a simple life of need, come into my life forever." Not to mention the chorus; Love is suicide could very well be a statement of Christ dieing for the world because of his love. Nobodies felt like you aptly describes that kind of sacrifice. The other verses support this too, if you look at them.
Of course, Billy is, when said and done, a rock and roll genuis, and I doubt this song means one single thing at all.

I was watching the old version of Romeo and Juliet the other day and it struck me that this song is very Romeo and Juliet: "Love is suicide" - no one knows it better

Interesting takes on this song, all with valid points.

I think the song covers both sides of the love issue - falling in love and then losing that love - as forms of suicide. In the first verse we have someone falling in love and in the process giving up what it means to be themselves and taking on the life of their partner. Casting away their "simple life of need" and placing their partner's burdens on their shoulders ("of the sights you have been shown / of the hurt you call your own"). I've known many people who seem to lose their identity when they fall in love. Forgetting all their friends and pursuits to live for this one person they love deeply. In this case, love is indeed suicide.

In the second verse the person loses his/her love. Or maybe they are just falling out of love as they come to terms with the pain that they tried to take on in the first verse and realize the conflicts are pushing the couple apart. But despite all that, the singer remembers that no one felt like this love it's killing him to be apart from it.

But perhaps I'm being too literal...

VektorW, you are by far the most ignorant person i have ever met, im not going to make a big deal, but lets look at the content of some of the songs you've called happy. At random........hmmmm........ Lily? Wait, isnt that a song about him being arrested for looking at a girl through her window, craeting a sort of outsider feel. Does that make you happy? How about Muzzle? "I fear that i am ordinary just like everyone. Left to lie here and die here among the sorrows" thats not an exact quote im not sure of the exact lyric but it is by no means happy. Think again before making such a stupid post. If you want further information about the sadness in the other songs read the lyrics or ask me.
