All I know is that the line: "blue skies bring tears" means that all he wants is clarity. Being part of MACHINA (their last album), Corgan was unsure of the band's way. He wondered how things would turn out. Clarity.

I think this song is about a bombing on a city. The last verse is someone talking to someone else, asking them to hold them before they die. The rest are probably connected to this idea too...but I might be wrong.

vertigo-good point. In a way, the bombs could be tears. Tears clean out any traces of gunk in the eye, and bombs, it has been said, clean out any traces of unwanted folks or buildings in an area (social and political gunk?) Anyway, another great song from the very underrated Machina

I think some of this song is about realzing something and coming to terms with something that is very hard to come to terms with. "Blue skies bring tears" could mean that once everything is clear, and you realize the truth, it can be hard sometimes.

I think it's about hurt, and (linking this to MACHINA) is the hurt that we have subjected to ourselves. It's like suggesting that clear will bring tears of sorrow, cause it will reveal the damage we have done.

This line... If everyone died now, only th innocent children COULD go heaven, because we are all sinners in what we are doing to the world and hummanity's moral structure.

It could also say that love with another person is the only freedom from this chaos we jhave brought upon ourselves.

It's about the "end of the world" (aka Armageddon to most). Or more specifically, about someone causing the "end of the world." Obviously.

We're can't seem to hold on to a good thing. We ruin it. Both in a very personal sense (destroying someone you love emotionally) and in a global sense (apocalyptic warfare).

We can't be happy and love ourselves when things are going great. Blue skies bring tears.

I think the main idea of this song's pretty easy to figure out...
Blue skies bring tears = clarity brings sadness. When you figure out what's happening, you feel terrible.

I think there's a bit of social commentary in this song. The first stanza seems to hint at war and maybe religious intolerance.

In the second stanza, "descend the darkened stairway...make hate...remaining traces" remind me of paramilitary operations, which hint at an oppressive, totalitarian government.

The "I am a stranger..." line brings out the impersonal nature of a society controlled by martial law, as if the happiness were sucked out of everyone.

Finally, the phrase, "You are the sweetest flower...devoured" just really gets me. It's really the finishing touch on this whole depressing, yet beautiful song. I interpret this last line to be the death of innocence, as it cannot survive in a society stifled with fear.
