i love the SPs and this is an underrated track...the music around "may godspeed be with you" is really moving. Its all about hope which is a bit unusual for them, but theyve done it so well maybe they should have done some more?

I just have to say this: Corgan is sooooo talented.
This song is soo well written, very very moving.
Although I see the hope theme in it, there's also an underlying feling of regret, maybe for not being able to give a loved one the attention they deserved.
Beautiful song.

It's a beautiful moving song....
when i read joeprog comment I would say that the song is by James Iha...

James Iha proves he's a great songwriter yet again with this song.

To me the line
"there's a life i hide
but try to disguise"
is about not being who you really are for the person you're after, but being what you think they'd want instead. It's like he's coming to a realization that it won't work especially in the part where he sings...

down to the "godspeed be with you" part it sort of sounds like he's bidding his love farewell.

but all of this is just my humble opinion. Beautiful song.

I think this song is sung by someone who hasn't met "the one" yet and wants to believe that that person is out there somewhere. So he sings this love song to someone he doesn't even know but feels in his heart that they will find each other... someday...

I agree with Jewelly Bug. By the line "theres a life i hide..." sounds like he is in pain but he is trying to believe that he will soon meet that someone and it will go away.

i think by "there's a life i hide", we can tell that the song is about a dude who loves a girl, and they're together, but she doesn't really know him. he doesn't act like himself around her because he tries to hide the fact that he's not perfect, he tries to be the kind of guy that he thinks she would like, instead of just being himself. and because of his fakeness the relationship just gets worse, but he believes that someday it will get better and that they will be closer together.

The "not being yourself" theory is plausible but I thought it was more about faith in God.. "On sunday I make my amends".. "I want to believe in you" blah blah

I think this song is about a relationship, perhaps they broke up and he's telling her that no matter what happen he'll love her and maybe she's telling him something he doesn't believe, but he wants to... Besides, it seems like he has a black past that he regrets of and he tells her that he's going to amends all the mistakes and wishes her good luck: "May God speed be with you"...

It's a beautiful and powerfull song! I love it!! Smashing Pumpkins rocks!!!

i think its just about a man who has not been able to fully love this woman. he could take her a million miles away but for some reason is not that person because of the life he hides.

This song...just has a way of saying things I'd want to say. I think thats one of the greatest things about the smashing pumpkins.

"and if they steal your light, you heart is still in mine." The 'mine' he's saying is his light, and his heart. a heart being in a heart meaning he has feelings for her feelings.then, like shining a light on something you want to see. He cares for her feelings, and doesn't want her going into darkness.

"There's a life I hide,
Well...I tried to disguise."
It's like, He's trying to change for this girl. But the girl see's what he used to be. so he admits he tried to disguise it from her. then..."I could take you a million miles away". I'd say thats quite a change to make for some one. lol.

He knows he's made mistakes, he admits that, and makes amends. Thats an amazing feeling to have.
and "may God speed be with you." I think it's like, whether you want to come to me, run away, or anything, best of luck, because it's your decision.

I think he's saying that he wants to believe that she'll be with him. He hears her song, and she can sing. thats like, a bonus from a girlfriend if you are a musician. it sucks when a girl can't sing, lol.
Then he states a fact. "A truth there's no other".
no other girl for him.
