Lyrics for Wrap Your Arms Around Me as interpreted by ojms

Wrap Your Arms Around Me Lyrics
Words by Steven Page & Ed Robertson
Music by Jim Creeggan & Ed Robertson
I concede that you were right about this place
I can make a perfect likeness of your body if I trace
I can hold you til you turn out the light
And I can't see

Do you believe that we are all innately good
Do you think that you would love me until tomorrow if you
could
Won't you please turn down the radio
So we can speak

I put my hands around your neck
You wrap your arms around me
I put my hands around your neck
You wrap your arms around me
I put my hands around your neck
You wrap your arms around me

I regret every time I raised my voice
And it wouldn't be that bright of me to say I had no choice
I can kiss your eyes your hair your neck
Until we forget

I concede that you were right about this place
I can make a perfect likeness of your body if I trace
I can hold you til you turn out the light
And I can't see
I can't see

Funny fact: Abba and Kc & the sunshine band have a song with the same title.

It is someone in a relationship who is having trouble and apologizes for being mean to their partner. when they show them this perfect evening

i agree with muppet, i think this song is about a murder and regret. hand around your neck is mostlikely choking. He regrets when he yelled and didnt mean it. but it got out of hand and there is nothing he can do and no way to get her back. then he is left with her in his arms. All he can do is hold her in his arm.

I agree that this song is sexy. It's one of my favorite songs on Gordon.

I don't know that it's about murder, but I do think "Hands around your neck" refers to choking, if only because on the same album, the song "The Flag" has the line: "Last night, remember, when I tried to choke you".

I don't see how a song about domestic abuse is "sexy."

For me it is a beautiful, amazing song. I find, though, that it is more of an abusive relationship rather than murder. He keeps abusing, but at the sametime he is still aloving guy afterwards. He hates that he does it , but he still does it.

For a long time I thought "murder" in regards to this song. The line about "making a perfect likeness" of the body by tracing always reminded me of the chalk outlines at crime scenes. Although, looking at it now, domestic abuse does seem to be more in line with the rest of the lyrics.

it's so awesome how BNL can so beautifully make a song about the woes in an abusive relationship from the side of the abuser. great idea.

I would assume that the person who the song is being writtn about is still alive. If that wasn't true the second verse wouldn't make sense. Perhaps the "I put my hands around your neck, you wrap your arms around me" could be a dancing reference. When a woman slow dances she usually puts her hands around the mans neck. Maybe this song is from a woman's perspective.

This song is NOT a positive, uplifting song. It's apparent sexiness is meant to be subversive. Think about the lyrics:

I can make a perfect outline of your body if I trace. First this is sexy, but after he puts his hands around her neck "choking," one is apt to think of a chalk outline of a corpse at a crime scene. Also the reference to turning off the lights is sexy the first time around, but the second time is reminiscent of death, as in "lights out for such and such [who died]." What connects the sexiness to the killing is a transformation in the tone of the relationship. The speaker is becoming self-conscious, asking her if the lover "could love him 'til tomorrow." This is not sexy, but fearful.

I think there could be more to analyze in this song, too, especially more with the mirroring of the first and last stanzas/verses.

You can tell much about what a song means by playing it as well. This song, I believe, is not sexy (as been suggested), but rather I think it's about a relationship that these are trying to force into existence, the chords repeat much, giving the idea that perhaps they have tried and tried to make it work, like a lie you repeat in hopes of it becoming truthful...but the sad reality is that you concede it won't ever happen like you dream it would; there also may be some secrecy going on as well. Notice that in the opening lines they are in a room, alone, ready to ravage one another as they routinely would. But you turn out the lights (shame? secrecy?). The radio is also on, to help with the mood?

Suddenly one of them wants to talk, perhaps wanting to end this 'affair' they have. This same one is probably done trying to stay together for the sake of peace and comfort, but is tired of trying. Notice: as one wraps their arm around, the other is just trying to strangle the love out of them. The chords tell us that eventually something is said by way of apology/defense (notice something similar in The Flag and Break Your Heart)trying to justify the break up by recalling past struggles and pains; anything that can convince the other that it's better to be alone. But, the other sees good in it all ("believe we're all uniquely good"), while the one can't believe he'll love her another day.

But they go along with it once more (reminiscent of In the Car).

...I might be wrong.
