Lyrics for Be My Yoko Ono as interpreted by ojms

Be My Yoko Ono Lyrics
Words and Music by Steven Page & Ed Robertson
If there's someone you can live without, then do so
If there's someone you can just shove out, then do so

Chorus
You can be my Yoko Ono
You can follow me wherever I go
Be my, be my, be my Yoko Ono

Isn't it beautiful to see two people so much in love
Barenaked as two virgins hand in hand and hand in hand in glove
Now that I'm far away it doesn't seem to me to be such a pain
To have you hanging off my ankle like some ball and chain

Chorus

Oh no, here we go
Our life is just one big pun
Ono, here we go as Yoko sings
Aieee!

I know that when I say this
I might be stepping on pins and needles
But I don't like all these people slagging her
For breaking up the Beatles
(Don't blame it on Yokey)
If I was John and you were Yoko
I would gladly give up musical genius
Just to have you as my very own
Personal Venus
(Hit it)

Chorus

Andy Creeggan: Congas, tamborourine, vocals
Jim Creeggan: Double Bass, vocals
Steven Page: Lead Vocal
Ed Robertson: Guitars, vocals
Tyler Stewart: Drums

this song is so funny. it's about john denver and yoko ono and the BNL are so great with words. these words are pretty much self-explanatory. it's about yoko following john everywhere, even when being kicked out of the country. (Now that I'm far away it doesn't seem to me to be such a pain to have you hanging off my ankle like some ball and chain) and in the end the BNL defend yoko and then say they'd give up their careers to have someone to love as well.

*ahem* it was john lennon. john lennon from the beatles. just thought i'd clarify, because i've never heard of yoko ono and john denver being together. yeah.

my favorite part of this song is when he tries to sound like yoko "AIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEE!" that's so great.

The song is not directly about Yoko, he's comparing his relationship to hers.. or something. funny stuff.

yeah. it's not about yoko specifically, he's saying to a girl "Be my Yoko Ono." basically, i'd give up rock and roll for you.

this song is about some guy who wants his girl to follow him around in all that he does. he compares their relationship to that of yoko ono and beattles great john lennon.

This song does have the deeper meaning of a guy who would give up anything to be with this girl but it is also making fun of Yoko Ono and the whole situation with her and the Beatles. It is a classic BNL song, funny but meaningfull.

Does anyone know what the line "oh no, here we go, our life is one big pun" has to do with the part before? Are there some Beatles puns that I'm not catching?

I LOVES THIS SONG! its the first thing that DOESNT make fun of Yoko! She cant have been THAT bad, if someone like John was in love with her. I love the music video to this song too. Its so sweet.

this is the pun (i think):

"oh no!" = (yoko) ono

"oh no, here we go" or "ono, here we go"

I would agree with amazon 0505.

Many people don't like Yoko Ono because she apparently changed John Lennon. However, they really did love each other, so I say, lay off the slack! But, uh, yeah she did warp him pretty badly.

Did anyone else crack up the first time they heard the guys trying to sound like Ono?

I think the bit about the pun refers to the "Barenaked as two virgins...." part, as well as the Oh no thing

i also think "hand in hand and hand in hand in glove" is a reference to the smiths' "hand in glove"

I laughed at that...

John Denver and Yoko Ono...just a plane mistake. I'm sure he noticed it after.

Such a great fun song to sing with, can dance with it too.
