Lyrics for A Spider In My Room as interpreted by ojms

A Spider In My Room Lyrics
There's a spider in my room
There's a spider in my room

Then a voice above my head
Said if that spider were made dead
I'd better grow some fins 'cause
It would make it easier to swim

I don't like spiders and snakes
The way they crawl, the way they shake
If a spider gets killed how does that make it rain?
How could I be the one to blame?

A whisper drizzled down from the ice in its eyes
It said, "Try pickin' on your own damn size,"
But the Hoover was quick, termination complete
In its bedroom home not a chance to eat

In the corner beside my bed
Very busy spinning thread
Eight legs and a little head

I hear the thunder from outside
And the water's gettin' high

I don't like moths and bugs
They buzz, they get in the rugs
But where does a guy find some room
In this life raft home, a little rubber tomb

There's a spider in my room
There's a spider in my room

In the corner beside my bed
Very busy spinning thread
Eight legs and a little head

There's a spider in my room

There's a spider in my room

Spider

Spider

There's a spider in my

Spider in my

Spider in my

kids, this is what happens when jim creegan tries to write a song. lol. it sounds like he's killing a spider in his room. not much else there. leave the songwriting to ed and stephen, jim.

Don't be mean, he's only the bass player...I MEAN sure it's a song about killing a spider. this line is important though
"If a spider gets killed how does that make it rain?
How could I be the one to blame? "
It's supposedly an old wives tale about killing spiders causing a week (?) of rain.

Ultimately, the spider probably symbolizes something. Since no one cares or will bother to check and I'm too lazy, I'll stop there. Oh yeah:

i'm not saying this is only what the song's about, but you could interpret it as a guy who (like most people) isn't superstitious but still worries about it.

Aside from being a self-proclaimed arachnophobic Jim wrote this song about a spider that would hang in the corner of his sandbox as a kid as well as how his brother, John, held 'spider-hunts' and would use a vacumn to suck up a spider in the house. Hence the line about the hoover.

I think I meant arachnophile, and not arachnophobic.

I think you meant arachnophobe - an arachophile is someone who loves spiders.

While this might not be the song that shoves the meaning in your face, it doens't mean it's simply about spiders! The spider symbolizes something, probably something to Jim. And Sanjuro, you're right about everything you wrote. While it could be Jim just remembering things, it most likely has a deeper meaning, as all BNL songs do. I really can't think of a BNL song that doesn't have a deeper meaning.

And if Jim left the writing to Ed and Steve, we would not have the same Grade 9, Peterborough and the Kawarthas, the same I Love You, or the same Everything Had Changed.

And if the writing was simply up to Ed and Steve, we would never have Hidden Sun, Another Spin, Serendipity, Vanishing, Adrift, Why Say Anything Nice, or Sound of Your Voice. All of BNL are talented song writers. While Ed and Steve may be dominant in this catagory, it does not mean that Kevin, Jim, or Tyler (co-wrote Why Say Anything Nice) are any less talented. I, for one, LOVE LOVE LOVE Kevin Hearn and anything he writes, BNL related or not. Tyler branched out and helped write an incredible song on thier new cd. Jim helps write tons of the music for the songs. As said before, Ed and Steve are dominant and can write faster than Jim or Tyler, the quality is still the same.

Now before people go off at me for hating Ed or Steve, I DON'T. Ed and Steve are incredibly talented and I love their voices/songs. I just hate it when people make them out to be the greatest in the band. Jim, Kevin, Tyler, and (used to be) Andy are/were just as important to the band.

All I'm asking, is that people give Jim some credit for this song. He wrote it when the band was going through a hard period making Born On A Pirate Ship. Everyone was tense when they were making that CD.

Try Picking on Your Own Damn Size could mean that Jim is feeling picked upon by people...

Yeah, whatever zaphod. This is an awesome song, in my opinion. Jim has written some other great songs too. In the Drink? Peterborough? Just because you didn't catch the meaning of the song doesn't mean that Jim isn't a good songwriter. Everyone in BNL is a good songwriter. And you spelled Steve's name wrong. So nyeh.

But yeah, I love this song. It's a bit weird, but I just can't not like it. I like the whole album actually, even though it was written in a hard part of their career. They did an excellent job.

The song title is actually just "Spider In My Room", not "A Spider In My Room", but whatever. It's kinda like "The Old Apartment" vs "Old Apartment". Anyways, for a bit, I was wondering if Jim's an arachnophobe, and judging by the beginning of Sanjuro's comment, apparently he is. Kinda cool to be sure that celebrities are all human and not flawless (though these guys' music come pretty close!), and kinda cool to know that you have something in common with a celebrity or two, other than just handedness or hair/eye/skin color. Something in common with their personality.

Also, to zaphodwhatever, stfu noob, you're talking out your ass. If you want to be an asshat, that's fine. Just not on stuff like this where you can't take back what you said to piss people off. And no, I doubt I'm pissing anyone off because everyone seems to agree with me. Don't talk shit about bosses like BNL.
