Lyrics for Break Your Heart as interpreted by ojms

Break Your Heart Lyrics
The bravest thing I've ever done
Was to run away and hide
But not this time, not this time
And the weakest thing I've ever done
Was to stay right by your side
Just like this time, and everytime
I couldn't tell you I was happy you were gone
So I lied and said that I missed you when we were apart
I couldn't tell you, so I had to lead you on
But I didn't mean to break your heart

And If I always seem distracted
Like my mind is somewhere else
That's because it's true, yes it's true
It's this stupid pride that makes me feel
Like I have to follow through
Even half-assedly, loving you
Why must I always speak in terms of cowardice?
When I guess I should have just come out and told you right from the start
Why must I always tell you all I want is this?
I guess 'cause I didn't want to break your heart

You said
"What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Curl up and die just because of you?
I'm not that weak you know
What'd you think that I was gonna do,
Try to make you love me as much as I love you?
How could you be so low?
You arrogant man,
What do you think that I am?
My heart will be fine
Just stop wasting my time"

And now I know that you will be okay,
And that I've got what I want and that's rid of you
Good-bye
And it's not 'cause I'll be missing you
That makes me fall apart
It's just that I didn't mean to break
No I didn't mean to break
Your heart

Your heart

this song is so pretty even though it's so sad lol it's about a relationship the guy doesn't want to be in but the girl does. he wants to end it but he doesn't want to break her heart so he never has the guts to tell her how he really feels and that just upsets her more that he couldn't be honest and had been pretending to love her. she's going to move on and be fine and he's not going to miss her but he wishes he didn't have to break her heart.

This is my favorite BNL song...it reminds me of most of my relationships. It's an honest and beautiful ballad...always guaranteed to tear me up...It really should have been on the greatest hits cd.

this has to be my favorite song of all time to sing. at the end, when he starts screaming, you can tell he means what he's saying.

This is maybe my favorite song,
I just love it, it's amazing, and so powerful,
it talks about a guy who wants to leave a girl, but doesnt want to break her heart, so he stays with her. and when he does tell her, it back fires. (and then we dont understand why men dont understand women, sheesh.)

It sounds reminiscent to diva ballads (whitney houston etc). Nevertheless a very heart-felt song that really does his voice justice.

**sigh** His voice can make anyone melt.
I wouldn't want to be the girl though :)
It's not a ballad coz he's not saying "I love you" and stuff like that. Infact it's the opposite.

anyone else melt within the first few seconds of the song when Steven sings "the-a-aaaa..." and then just sings normally? I just love that part!

I listen to this song evertime I feel down about stuff. I light candles all around the room and put it on repeat and just sit there and hear all the different versions of the song. I don't know about anybody else, but I like the live version other than the original!! BNL ROX MY WORLD!!!

"the-a-aaaa" is the intro, not the scream. both are really sweet though.

Anyone else notice how much this song sounds like a waltz? It's got the right time.

I love the combination of emotions, both this intense desire not to hurt her and the frustration that she's keeping him from other things. It's what makes the song so powerful.

I love this song, too, but I've always seen it from a slightly different perspective (probably because I have been in this exact situation, unfortunately). I think it's true that he doesn't want to hurt the girl, but I think it's more out of his own fear ("Why must I always speak in terms of cowardice") than about her feelings. BNL's wacky songs kind of divert attention from the serious pathos in a lot of their stuff. These guys have some issues, which is just one more reason to love their songs. So much depth.

Oh, also, I think that the last verse speaks to some regret on his part. Kind of like he didn't want her, but now that she's gone, it hurts.

Yeah, i've been here too. It's not just not wanting to break her heart, but some fear, as well.

Sometimes, when you're in deep, there's real fear in admitting something that you've covered up for so long...

The last verse makes me think of one word....trepidation...remorse....contrition

Wait a minute, that is three words...

And I audaciously call myself an accountant.

tough situation... either stay with someone and be misreable yourself or break the girls heart and be on your own. it's difficult knowing a person isn't right for you but that other person thinks the two of you are perfect. but you feel like weight has been lifted off your shoulders when you finally tell them and you get what you want, which is rid of them. it says much in not wanting to break someone's heart, but then again, it's worse to keep them on a line.

It seems similar to Janis Joplin's rendition to 'Maybe'.

I personally wouldn't have wanted to date any of these guys because they use everything as song material. Could you Imagine what the poor girl feels when she hears this song? ouch. But, it's really such a powerful song about breaking up with someone. It's not about how much you really love the person but you have to let them go like a pop ballad but it's more about growing up and growing apart. The girl is just too different from him now, he's not longer in love with her. It sucks from the girls frame but I do like the fact she's stronger than most. She didn't weep at the idea but stood her ground. I respect these guys so much. They create such great tunes that feel like you're looking in on their lives.

ok, so when i listen to this song it gets to me everytime.this situation happened to me, atleast towards the end of my relationship, but it was me in the situation that the girl is in..so,when listening to this song i kinda hve a backwards persepctive, which makes me breakdown thinking that the words he is singing are the words she was thining the entire time and it gets me emotional everytime.and interestingly enough about 2 years after our breakup i was living about 2000 miles from home and my ex flew out to drive back with me, and the last day of driving we listened to strictly bnl on my ipod and sang our hearts out..Pinch Me was a song that had special meaning to us so any bnl songs really got us in the reminiscnet mood. and this song was definitely one that was an amazing, but awkward moment.regardless bnl is fucking amazing

This song is really about how a guy is so freaking full of himself he thinks the girl can't take it so he won't break up with her. Then he tells the girl and she's like FINE if you don't want to be with me but don't waste my time by pretending you do, just let me go and find someone else. Then the idiot who decided to string her along has to have his heart broken because he realizes he lost something that was good for him because he was probably too selfish to love her the way she needed to be loved in the first place.
