Lyrics for Breathing as interpreted by oofus

Breathing Lyrics
I'm finding my way back to sanity again
Though I don't really know what
I'm gonna do when I get there
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back in the arms of grace

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be
Where I wanna be

I'm looking past the shadows
Of my mind into the truth and
I'm trying to identify
The voices in my head
God, which one's you
Let me feel one more time
What if feels like to feel
And break these calluses off me
One more time

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside your door and listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah

Oh I don't want a thing from you
Bet you're tired of me waiting for
The straps to fall off of your table to the ground
La da da da...
Cause I just wanna be here now

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door
And listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door
And listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah
Where I wanna be

i think that as much as this song can be about god, people who arent religious can still still alot out of this song.. with no disrespect for god, i think that this song is about (for me personaly) a break up, and the guy is finding it hard to move on from the break up and he wants to just be with the girl, around the girl, coz its comforting knowing that shes alive.. and thats why they dont have to speak, they can just be there and know... but then again, im wierd...

I think that there are so many ways to interpret this song. i agree w/ those who say that each song is to be interpreted by each listener. yes, perhaps the person who wrote it had one specific thing in mind when writing it, but that doesn't mean that it can't mean something else to those who are listening.

It does make a lot of sense that this song is about god, and him wanting to be closer to him. i can understand why people say that, and it makes a lot of sense. I can also see it as being symbolic of a girl as many are saying. But there is another way that i am interpreting it as well. Just one more possibility. I think that this song could be about someone that is dying. someone very close to him. when he says finding my way back to sanity, he is trying to get over the initial shock of finding out and going through the healing process, both for himself and the one he loves. and he says "i am hanging onto every word you say" he is holding onto that because he is afraid that it may be the only thing he has left of that person soon. then he goes onto talk about how if they don't want to say anything that it's fine. i see this as meaning that maybe it's even so much that they don't have the strength to speak, but that's fine, as long as he can be with them. i could go on, but i think i've gotten the point accross.
so that is one possible interpretation that i got out of this song.

why do people keep sayin that lifehouse is a cristian band? yes, the members are religious, but when even THEY say they are NOT A CHRISTIAN BAND, why insist they that they are??? stop pushin it down our throats! its a beautiful song, but its a LOVE song. about someone so in love that ANY AFFECTION from the person they love means the world to them. he/she just wants to be near their love. how can people not see that????? and all the references to heaven and god are to show just how much he loves her.. being with her equates to heaven.. since when is poetry taken literally????

ok so i read a few other ppls posts and then i looked back at the lyrics so at first i thought it was bout them getting into a fight and hes sorry but she doesnt care and shes still madd at him and he doesnt care if she doesnt wanna talk,he just wants to hear her breathe if she wont talk cuz shes too mad at him,but then i reconsidered that yeah maybe its about a guy loving a girl but the girl doesnt love him back. eh eaither way i believe both of the things about what this song means. and its a BEAUTIFUL SONG...omg i love it sooooo much

What I relate this song to, personally, is this:
When I listen to this song, it reminds me of this boy I love. He moved away and I thought I would never hear from him again because I never talked to him again. Then one day I found him on the internet and we started talking alot. He asked me to call him, but for some reason, I said no. One day he just stopped saying anything to me, and now he has a girlfriend.

This song reminds me of how every little thing he said or did, mattered to me in the biggest way. Now I would give anything just to be with him. He KNOWS I absolutely LOVE him, and I'm obsessed with him, but he doesn't feel the same way about me, at all. It really breaks my heart.
So this is just what I relate the song to. I think it's a love song.

This is the song my boyfriend and I reffer to as ours, because we can relate to it easily.

We fight a lot and sometimes we turn something small into something bigger than it has to be. Sometimes we wont talk for a day or so, but during that time I know he's thinking of me as much as I am thinking of him, it's all really a matter of giving in first. We're both stubborn, but what we have is real and it leaves space for stubborness and stupidities sometimes becuase there's enough love there to withstand it.

To me, this song carries three meanings...the thing about God..more of less of that though because all the words don't seem to match that. Then, the whole relationship thing...when it comes to guys, I can very easily put my situation into this song but most of all, this song reminds me of someone dying and the person left knows that they can't be with them but they just wanna sit "Outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing." Seems right to me.

This song could be about god... but it's all about the listener so thats not how i see it. (maybe because im agnostic)
To me this song means a little more... and ironic how it happened lol The other night i was on the phone with my girlfriend, and we werent really speaking, just listening to the music she was playing on her computer. She started playing lifehouse (ive never really heard much of their music, but shes a big fan) and i mentioned to her how for the first time in a relationship i wasnt afraid of the silence... then she mentioned this song. So thats my story.

Ha ha ha, it can't be about God for those who don't believe because then they couldn't get anything out of it *rolls eyes* Yet, even if it is they can't admit that it IS and that they prefer to interpret it in their own way. Why not? Be a little more secure in your disbelief. And secure in others believing.

Anyway, I didn't plan on getting into a God/not debate but I've always thought this song not to be about God and about someone/people/love and all that crap. Then I read somewhere it was a worship song and was a bit miffed. But I've come to accept that it may be and it can relate. I still prefer the other way. It's whichever way you look at it. No need for hostilities.

(Obnoxious section: I'm starting to feel glad that I cannot relate to this song in any other way but for it's own meaning. Otherwise I'd be going blah blah blah about my significant other and when I break up with them, I'd post about that under a sad break-up song and continue to bug everyone with my life. Song meanings; not nostalgic tales!!!).

to me, if you wanna b straightforward and shallow.. its about god... because of lines such as... "god which ones you" or "'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door"

but if you want something deeper... to me it is about loving someone who doesnt love you back or wont take you back after youve screwed up...

on the top 5 lifehouse songs without a doubt

I'd have to say that my favourite lines in the song are the first verse and the chorus. But by far the best line is the first line 'I'm finding my way back to sanity, again'. To me this means he is finally getting over his ex. Everyone has been through that before, when all you can think of is that person and it really does drive you to insanity. But when you finally get over them and onto someone else, definetly the best feeling in the world because you really are 'finding your way back to sanity, again'

i think that any song can be taken any particular way, whether you think its about god or a girl, it dosent matter so much as the quality of the song does. i, am not a religous person, but i still enjoy lifehouse verry mutch. i happen to agree with pretty-in-punk, for that is what comes to my mind when i hear this song.

This song IS all about God, people. " Fall back into the arms of grace...", "Sit outside heaven's door....". Most obviously, he asks, " I'm trying to identify/ the voices in my head/ God, which one's you?". Jason Wade must be seriously schizo if he's hearing his girlfriend in his head, innit?

But of course, if you want it to work on a romantic level, go ahead. You can even work it on a friendship level or parental level. Its about love, after all. Love for God, yes. But I do suppose that if you want to, eros could be contrasted with agape for poetic and dramatic effect.

I really don't like it how athiests claim christians shove religion down their throats when they shove how god doesn't exsit right back at other people.
I'd rather have faith and be happy then walk around believing that this is all that there is and after I die that's it.

No one wants to read that stuff on here, this is a very beautiful song it doesn't matter if you think it's about god or about love. It's what the song means to you.

I think this song is one of those that doubles as a religious song and a love song. The way they substitute "your door" for "Heaven's door" makes me think this. In the religious aspect, I think it's about how God doesn't always talk back to you when you want Him to, but it's okay, because just sitting there waiting for him to talk is fine with you. In the love song aspect, it could be about a girl that the singer loves, but the girl doesn't feel the same way. However, the singer is being patient and waiting to see what happens. He doesn't demand anything from the girl. He's just happy to be near her, even if it's in complete silence.

This is such a beautiful song. I think it can either be romantic, or spiritual. For those who believe in God - having a relationship with God means to be in love with God. (ok, non-believers will think that seems strange, but you christians understand me, yeah?) Anyway!!! So yeah, I reckon you can either relate this to a guy or girl you're in love with, or it can relate to God. Either way, this song expresses an intense longing. It is just so beautiful, it's captivating, it's dreamy. Jason wade is incredible.. HE is dreamy!! This is probably one of my all-time favourite songs! "I am hanging on every word you say" - wow. What passionate words! "even if you don't wanna speak tonight, that's alright, alright with me. 'Cos I want nothing more than to sit outside your door and listen to you breathing.. that's where I wanna be".. oh, the words take my breath away!! I can relate to these words a lot.
