Lyrics for Breathing as interpreted by oofus

Breathing Lyrics
I'm finding my way back to sanity again
Though I don't really know what
I'm gonna do when I get there
Take a breath and hold on tight
Spin around one more time
And gracefully fall back in the arms of grace

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be
Where I wanna be

I'm looking past the shadows
Of my mind into the truth and
I'm trying to identify
The voices in my head
God, which one's you
Let me feel one more time
What if feels like to feel
And break these calluses off me
One more time

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside your door and listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah

Oh I don't want a thing from you
Bet you're tired of me waiting for
The straps to fall off of your table to the ground
La da da da...
Cause I just wanna be here now

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door
And listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah

'Cause I am hanging on every word you say
And even if you don't wanna speak tonight
That's alright, alright with me
'Cause I want nothing more than to sit
Outside heaven's door
And listen to you breathing
Is where I wanna be, yeah
Where I wanna be

and i have to say it again- "jesusmyheartadoresu" you are an unmigitated freak. your whole comment sounds like you're talking to a little pixie in your mind and it's a load of bullshit. secondly, your heart does not adore Jesus- in either literal nor metaphorical sense. literally because your heart is a little red muscle which pumps blood round your body- it has no feelings no emotions. metaphorically- you don't KNOW jesus, all you know is what the pathetic little picture books show you. yanno, the ones with pics of Jesus with blonde hair etc. when infact he was an Arab and would've looked more like bloody Yassir Arafat or Bin Laden. and what did jesus ever do for you- don't answer "sacrificed himself for me so i would be absolved of sin" because that means nothing and there's no proof or anything. if u feel that jesus helps you in times of trouble blah blah bullshit bullshit, then that's totally psychosomatic and it only *works* because you're talking to that little voice in your head again, aren't you....
believe me luv, i know your sort

this is my favorite band. this is my favorite song. i love it, no matter what all of you say. jason wade is a great singer, and song writer. the band is awesome. this is the first band i found that i can relate to almost everything they say. they write about life. i love how jason explains his songs, and how he wants people to make their own meaning to it. that's the best part about i, it can mean whatever you want it to. the whole point of this site is to write what you think it means, to get different points of views. one of the reasons there is so much hate in the world is because we can't compromise. everyone just shuts people down with ideas. hell, where i live we're all supposed to have equal oppurtunities and blah, blah, blah... we don't, but that doesn't mean i'm not going to work hard to get mine. here is my 2 cents... this song could be about god, it could be about a girl, it could be about his cat that died when he was 7! who knows?! no one, but jason. this is my first post, i came in here because this is my favorite song and i wanted to talk about how great it was. i didn't realize there was such a controversy. i have never thought about what the song actually means. i love it too much to attach a meaning. if i attatch it to something in my life, and later that something is gone, the song may be ruined for me. i just like to listen to how awesome it is, and not think. i hate how a lot of you tore this song apart. i'm not christian, and i'm not totally sure about god, but geez!, let people have some faith! you're telling people god doesn't exist and to stop forcing god on them. you're being hypocrites. you're trying to force them to believe that god doesn't exist, you're pushing it on them. let them all be. say what you have to say about this damn song and leave. you don't have to put down everyone else in the process. let people believe what they want to, one of your silly little posts isn't going to change their religion. you're not proving anything but how stupid you are in thinking that. some people use faith to get them through hard times. good for them, what do you do when you're upset and you have nothing? sit at home and mope, ya i know how it is. i wish i had more faith than i do. people who have that faith seem to be a little bit happier, and nicer. i'm not sure, this may be an assumption, but a lot of the people who related this song to god were civil. a few were pushing their religion, and that is uncalled for, but WHO cares!? think what you want to think. i can't believe that people are critized so much for their opinions. i wish you would all just let this be and talk about the song! they didn't put these lyrics in here to bring up a battle about the existence of god! i love this song, and it is great. it's very important to me, and i love listening to it. there, enough said... *ashley*

this is me and my g/f's song...it kicks ass! Me and her saw Lifehouse on the 15th, they put on a great show. They opened with "Anchor" and ended with "hanging by a moment". The coolest part was when everyone started crowd surfing during "Take me Away" it kinda fit the song perfectly. But they didn't play "Breathing" dammit, which was big disappointment for me and her.

I didn't read all the comments posted for this song, but i honestly love this song- the music AND it's message. I knew this song was about God the second my friend told e they were a Christian band, and this song made so much more sense to me. It's SUCH a great message to put out... that you just need His presence, that's all it takes. I think it's great that this was a single, too, that everyone listening to pop radio gets that message. Even if they don't understand it's about God, they still get a great message about being in someone you love and loves you back's presence!

i totally agree with lfhsgrl, just post what you think this song is about and leave. you're being such hypocrytes by forcing your non-religion. yet rainbow8711, the fact that you say you're christian and i don't know why you would be forcing the fact that god doesn't exist makes absolutely no sense to me. that's all i have to say.

rainbow8711 is my idol. but you say god is a load of bullshit but then you say that you believe in him. honestly it doesnt matter to me what you do and don't believe in just don't be trying to force it unto us. If we really wanted to be in the grace of god we would make that decision ourselves. thank you

This song is great. I honestly think it's about God b/c
everything that God says he is amazed at and he
wants to hear and know more. If you don't agree that's fine
we all have our opinions although we may not agree. Awesome band.

Peace Out People,

Michelle

I love this song, makes me weak everytime i hear it. I can relate to most of this song with my feelings for someone, always wanting to be closer to her, but all i can do is be *outside heavens door*, but not regreting it, being her best friend is more than enough, anything to be in her life is a gift for me.

To me "Breathing", like quite a few other songs, has a different meaning depending on what mood I'm in and what's going on in my life at the time.
Sometimes it's a love song, sometimes it's a worship song, sometimes it's just the music and not the words that's importent.
But, I just wanted to say that this whole debate about 'God-song' or 'love-song' is never going to get resolved because things like this never do. No one is trying to force thier beliefs on anyone else, and if they are why does everyone get so defensive about it?
We all keep going on and on about how everyone can think what they want to, but then write nasty messages to people for doing just that.
If you are so offended by any mention of God maybe you should think about why that is . . .
Maybe (and this is just a suggestion I'm not forcing anyone to agree with me) your just afraid that if you give in to the thought that God is real and GOD you might have to give up something.
Just a thought.

This song is fantasic. Whether its about God or a girl it doesn't matter beacuse it is just beautiful. Guys ( well some of you anyway), even though you may strongly believe in God you don't need to push your opinions that much because everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. That's all I have to say for now. :]

I'm not a BIG fan of Lifehouse or anything, but I do like them and think that they wrote what is possibly one of the most romantic lines I've ever heard... "Cause I want nothing more than to sit outside heaven's door and listen to you breathing." I get the chills when I hear this song for some reason... it's a good one.

oh and i guess i also wanna say that the song is about Love, and because God basically IS Love, then its basically about him too. Think about it would ya?! Any love song youve ever heard can also relate to God, minus those detailed love songs about marriage and kids or something... lol!:

People shouldnt go around telling people that this song is about God. You are entitled to your OPINIONS, but people may find it offensive it you keep tellin them that it's about God. Jason Wade actually said that this is a love song that can be interpreted in a lot of ways. So that means that this song has got a lot of meaning to it. Being a love song.. it doesnt take God completely out of the picture, a love song is a song tellin about how much you love something/someone, what if that certain someone is God? So you dont have to quarrel, this song has got a lot of room for interpretation, and going around and claiming that you're right is uncalled for.

Listen to yourselves! Yes I am a Christian and proud to be but is that really the issue? Fine, if you don't belive it you don't believe it, if you do, you do, it's totally your choice. You can think the song's about God, you can think it's about a girl/boyfriend, you can think its about a chimpanzee for all I care as long as it makes you happy. Ultimately we're all looking for happiness and if you can find that, great, not everyone has the same path there. I think everyone should stop slagging everyone else off, every single person is entitled to their opinion and there's no need for hatred. From Christians and non Christians cos it's not just the non Christians picking fights here. Breathing is a beautiful beautiful song and means something to a lot of people. Whatever it means to you, let it. Don't let anyone tell you that what you believe isn't true, everybody has their own truth. One song can have a million different meanings. Just quit the fighting cos no one needs it.

I LOVE this song!!!!! ^_^

It is definitely a love song, duh. But it can either be interpreted as love for God or a girl/guy.

My own personal understanding is that it's about God.
It's a totally awesome song either way. ^_~

YOU GUYS ARE ALL WRONG IT AINT ABOUT GOD, JUST COZ JASONS A CHRISTIAN!!!

HERES THE REALL MEANING OFF THE MAN HIMSELF
This is another love song that can be interpreted in a couple of different ways. The verses say, "I'm finding my way back to sanity again." So it's like trying really hard and then getting back to the place you started from. Then the bridge says, "I don't want a thing from you/ Bet you're tired of me waiting for the scraps to fall off of your table to the ground." It's kind of like not wanting anything from anyone, not hanging on every word they say and just having faith you'll be able to "be here now," which is how the song ends.

if you dont believe me its from him go to http://www.lifehouseweb.cjb.net/
people make me mad that just jump to silly conclusions of what its about, just coz he's a christian

I agree, I think it is a beautiful love song, about not wanting anything from the person you love, except to be with them.

This song makes me teary everytime I listen to it. Several interpretations come to mind. I believe it could be about God, however it seems a bit unlikely. As for my personal opinion, it's a man/woman who is deeply infatuated with someone [could be that they're in a relationship with that person, or that they yearn for one] and this man/woman would like to listen to their love's breathing rather than hearing them speak. This person considers that special someone their angel ["'Cause I want nothing more than to sit outside heaven's door .."] It could also be the stages in recovering from a breakup, and how he/she wishes to be able to hear their old love's breathing, and to put the shattered pieces of his/her heart back together.

Yep, ramble ramble. Incoherent? Indeed.

Been there latetly. Somebody knows how it feels when you tell your girlfriend this (to be happy without talking, just by being with her together) and she tells you she don't feels this way? Kind of ripped out my heart...
