Lyrics for Everything as interpreted by oofus

Everything Lyrics
find me here
and speak to me
I want to feel you
I need to hear you
you are the light
that's leading me
to the place
where I find peace again

you are the strength
that keeps me walking
you are the hope
that keeps me trusting
you are the life
to my soul
you are my purpose
you're everything

and how can I
stand here with you
and not be moved by you
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this yeah

you calm the storms
and you give me rest
you hold me in your hands
you won't let me fall
you still my heart
and you take my breath away
would you take me in
take me deeper now

and how can I
stand here with you
and not be moved by you
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this

and how can I
stand here with you
and not be moved by you
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this

cause you're all I want
you're all I need
you're everything
everything

you're all I want
you're all I need
you're everything
everything

you're all I want
you're all I need
you're everything
everything

you're all I want
you're all I need
you're everything
everything

and how can I
stand here with you
and not be moved by you
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this

and how can I
stand here with you
and not be moved by you
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this
would you tell me
how could it be
any better than this

I love this song. I can see that many people think that this song might be about God, or about a girl. To me, it's about God. This song means a lot to me and I can't wait to go see Lifehouse perform it in Phili this month.

This is probably my most favorite song in the world, even though it gets me kind of sad. This song makes my heart ache like crazy. And yes, there are some Christian references, but for me it's a love song. It describes how I feel about someone I've known for a while (hence, the "makes my heart ache" thing).
Also, for those who say Lifehouse is a Christian band, I read in an interview that while the members are Christian, they don't want to be categorized that way because they want everyone to be able to enjoy their music. Not just Christians and they want everyone to interpret the songs however they want to.
I love Lifehouse!

i just saw them in concert on a few days ago, it was AWESOME. i dunno, i think the lyrics are def. based on christian stuff, but it doesnt really make a huge difference because i mean, look at their lyrics. people relate to them so easily, and plus, their stage presence is awesome. it was easily one of the best concerts ive been to.

I don't get how some people can say "this song is about this there is no question about it" Song Lyrics are poetry and since poetry is a form of art, it is up to interpretation. So if I wanted to say this song is about love....and love of a person and not a spiritual being...then in my no means am I wrong. I respect everyone's decision to say that this song is about God, because I am sure that these people have such an intense connection with God that these lyrics capture exaclty what they feel for him/her whatever your belief.

I think this song hits on a very personal level and could be about anything that some one holds extremely dear.

I too hear this song and immediately think of my boyfriend. Some people might be like you can't feel so much for a person you can only feel that much or god. But I beg to differ. I believe it is all about what type of person you are. And what you are going through. I am extremely moved by the love that I have with my boyfriend and though it might not last forever I know that it is something completely amazing, and I know that I can't describe what it is...but when I listen to this song I think it captures exaclty what I feel.

I also think that MelancholyManiac is right. How you interpret the song is only an opinion...that what this site is all about...your opinion on what this song is and what it means to you. We all have something incommon we all think that this song is amazing...why do we have to spoil it and say no what you think is wrong? When it's not?

in response to what lilbit313 said. I think people, at least for this song, can say it is certainly about God. because lifehouse is a Christian band. but in general, you can't exactly interpret songs.

i really didn't feel like reading all 111 posts, so if someone already said this, then who cares because the way i say it will be better. mwa ha ha.
i PERSONALLY don't think song isn't about God. sorry all you queer little christians who think every f-ing song lifehouse writes is about "our Father." you know, that kind of gets on my nerves. anyway, getting to my point...
the lyrics themselves are definatly up for interpriation, i'll admit. they aren't very deep on the surface, so it leaves a lot of room between the lines to be read. but, jason said in an interview "it has power because it kind of sums up everything I'm about - lyrically and in terms of my relationships and Lifehouse overall." so i think he's probably talking about his girlfriend (who was just his girlfriend at the time it was written) and if you want to think God, too, then go ahead. that is all.

yes i do agree that it is up for interpretation, every song is, but to comment on elmada's point of view, yes the song is about a PERFECT love, however that PERFECT love that he is talking about in the song can only come from Jesus, no boyfriend girlfriend husband or soul mate can ever give somone the love Jesus and God can give you. And to you gdinox! queer little christian!? what is wrong with you? If you truly think this song is up for interpretation you should not be insulting "queer little christians" for what we think a song is about by a band that IS clearly christian

sorry, i now agree that this song is most likely about God. i liked lifehouse, but the Spin album sucked so bad it wasn't even funny. this song is about all the love you can have, and Jason recieves the strongest love from God. i personally believe more in the easter bunny.

to be honest when I looked up this song, the interpretation that I knew was about Jesus and I didn't think that there were anyone else who felt that way, and to see how many people really do see it that way is really awesome. and I do agree that you can think of it both ways but the meaning that I believe is about God. And about the person that thinks that christians are little queers I think that...well...maybe they should get to know more christians before they are going to make desicions like that...because we aren't like all the stereo types that you think that we are...so back to the song, i think that it is about the feeling about Jesus all the way! and when I first heard this song it put peace in my heart and it spoke to me...
"you calm the storms and you give me rest..."
that line is about Jesus calming the storms of your life and you can agree with me or not but whatever...this song is just very special to me

People seem to be making this out to be where it's either about God, or it's about a girl.. though most are agreeing for God.
I think it's unique to the listener.
Everyone has something to them that is 'everything'.. and if they don't, someday they will. For those with faith, it's God. Maybe it's a mother, a mentor, a role model.. or a significant other. It say that something this deep is one specific thing is very shallow... and should be left uninterpreted.

this is by far the best written of all the lifehouse songs. Irrelevant to what it "really means" it is a beautiful song. songs are written so that people interpret it however they want...it's meant to touch each person and it could only do that if everyone has different meanings attached to the song. To me it reminds me of both my best friend he's everything to me...

First of all, I'd just like to say that (in my opinion) this is the most beautiful, amazing song ever. I never get tired of hearing it. It, simply put, amazes me. Second of all, I'd like to also say that this song should be able to be interpreted however you want. Songs mean different things for different people. Whether you want to interpret it as a song for God or for a boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/friend/etc. is up to you. There is no right or wrong answer. Songs are made to be interpretted as you wish. There may be a thousand different meanings behind this one song. However, no one meaning is correct. No one meaning is wrong. It's simply up to the listener as to what it means.

Not to be an ass or a "queer little christian" as some may say, but to deny that this song has strong regilious undertones is deny some of the deepest meanings of the song. Some of you put it is about "perfect love" yet, that is also what Christians (and myself) are saying the song is about, because the only perfect love is the one Jesus/God has for us.

If you believe in Christianty or if you know what Christian theology is about, there is no way this song can be about anyone else but God. God is the life of the soul and the purpose. It is God that you put everything into not a loved one.

Ultimately I am trying to say that us christians dont just put the "God" label on this song because its a Lifehouse song but yet because the love that is described in this song is only worth for one, that is God.

Peace.

I love this song and the meaning of it. I take this song in a religious aspect. It's someone with such great faith should feel like.

First off, why would Jason Wade ask "god" to "Take me in? Take me deeper now"

I honestly think he wrote this about his girlfriend to say how much she meant to him.

I feel sorry for the people who think this song is about his girlfriend. If that were so, he's got a lot coming to him when she disappoints him. And so the people who think this song is about another person, they're going to be disappointed when they don't find true fulfillment (that this song is about) in their relationships with people.
What he means by asking God to take him in and to take him deeper, is that God doesn't need us. God doesn't have to care about us, He doesn't have to love us. But the truth is, God does. He even wants us to be happy. If you don't believe in God, imagine what it is to worship, to be consumed by someone. When you devote your life to this person (say a girlfriend or boyfriend, or perhaps a spouse or just a lover, since this song is supposedly about that type of relationship), you want to be around him or her all the time. You want to know that person intimately. Well, that's what this line means -- he wants to know God more, he wants God to 'let him in' so to speak. He doesn't want the walls that people put up to guard themselves. He wants God, as He is, pure and unadultered. This can only be obtained through God's will and through a deep and intimate relationship. He will no longer settle for a dead version of the living God. This is the way to be happy.
This is the way that things are the best -- "how could it be any better than this?"
