Lyrics for One Week as interpreted by ojms

One Week Lyrics
It’s been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side
and said I’m angry
Five days since you laughed at me saying
Get that together come back and see me
Three days since the living room,
I realized it’s all my fault, but couldn’t tell you
Yesterday you’d forgiven me
But it’ll still be two days till I say I’m sorry

Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You’ll think you’re looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish,
Although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi
‘Cause it’s never touched a frying pan

Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes
Big like Leann Rimes
Because I’m all about value
Bert Kaempfert’s got the mad hits
You try to match wits
You try to hold me but I bust through

Gonna make a break and take a fake
I’d like a stinkin, achin shake
I like vanilla, It’s the finest of the flavors
Gotta see the show,
Cause then you’ll know
The Vertigo is gonna grow
Cause it’s so dangerous,
You’ll have to sign a waiver

How can I help it if I think you’re funny when you’re mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I’m the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can’t understand what I mean?
Well, you soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt

It’s been one week since you looked at me
Threw your arms in the air and said you’re crazy
Five days since you tackled me
I’ve still got the rug burns on both my knees
It’s been three days since the afternoon
You realized it’s not my fault not a moment too soon
Yesterday you’d forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait till you say you’re sorry

Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin’
Watchin X-Files with no lights on,
We’re dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man ’s in this one
Like Harrison Ford I’m getting Frantic
Like Sting I’m Tantric
Like Snickers , guaranteed to satisfy

Like Kurosawa I make mad films
Okay I don’t make films
But if I did they’d have a samurai
Gonna get a set of better clubs
Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren’t always flying off the backswing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
Cause that cartoon has got the boom anime babes
That make me think the wrong thing

How can I help it if I think you’re funny when you’re mad
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I’m the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can’t understand what I mean?
You soon will
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of losing my shirt

It’s been one week since you looked at me
Dropped your arms to your sides and said I’m sorry
Five days since I laughed at you and said
You just did just what I thought you were gonna do
Three days since the living room
We realized we’re both to blame, but what could we do?
Yesterday you just smiled at me
Cause it’ll still be two days till we say we’re sorry

It’ll still be two days till we say we’re sorry
It’ll still be two days till we say we’re sorry

One of my favourite songs, not only for the catchiness of the tune but the immortal lyric:

"Watchin X-Files with no lights on,
We’re dans la maison
I hope the Smoking Man ’s in this one

These lyrics have great allusions... X-Files, Sailor Moon, Snickers commercial, Harrison Ford, Busta Rhymes.. etc.

It'll be interesting hearing them years from now.. I wonder how much of it I'll remember? Or how much if it people ten years from now will get.

This song is about ego and relationships. A couple get into a stupid fight and it is not clear who's fault it is. First he thinks it is his fault, then he thinks it is her fault, and finally he realizes it is both. During that whole process he cannot stop thinking about the fight, but rather than deal with their problems--the couple just go about their lives, watching television, eating out, etc.

In the end, when they realize it is a stupid fight, their egos still prevent them from apologizing, but they know they will be OK because eventually they will apologize and get past the issue.

Or--maybe it is just a catchy tune with current pop culture references. Your choice.

zoom, I think you are right about the whole relationship issue. This is what truly makes BNL the best band. (in my opinion :) ). They combine serious issues (like fights) with catchy tunes that makes the listeners tune in on them... and then they catch the deeper meaning.

Just a little bit of BNL trivia...1) When the X-files is on, the guys say, 'dans la maison', which means "in the house" in French. This is the signal for all of the guys to load on the bus and turn on the tube. 2) There is no reference to Busta Rhymes in this song...see above comment.

this song is about a big arguement between lover, as summed up by the chorus. the pop culture references are metaphors for reasons of the fight. it's actually a very deep song

There are obviously a lot of references to Canada, avowing to the patriotic vein in BNL. (e.g. X-Files, Chalet Swiss, etc.) My son and I love it, because it reminds us of our stint in Calgary as Canucks. GREAT TUNE!

i think this is a song about a guy and a girl in a relationship and the girl wants the guy to be serious when she's mad at him, but he's just the goofy type of fellow and cant. and he sings this song to her, with all its silly references and nonsensical phrases, to help her understand how he finds everything funny and what kind of stupid stuff is running through his head constantly. and at the end of the song they make up.

a little far-fetched, don't u think? lol

Whew, this may take a while...
Aside from the obvious pop-culture references in the song, there are several lesser known parts. In the first verse: "You’ll think you’re looking at Aquaman" is a reference to a really crappy superhero that really had no worthwhile superpowers.
The third and fourth verses are the most interesting because they demonstrate how we allow so much of our society to be captivated by television and advertising. He actually compares himself to Harrison Ford, Sting and Snickers, all television icons in one way or another. He also makes reference to Sailor Moon, Akira Kurasawa, those golf clubs that are always advertised, and the X-Files, all related to TV. At the beginning of the third verse, they say:
"Chickity China the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin
I believe that this is actually a reference to the poultry scare in China where, at the time of this writing, people were dying a few days after eating the infected poultry (Hence, "Your brain stops tickin'"). This was all over the news, which is also on TV.

Whew.

LoL because I actually used to do that (watch X-Files with no lights on) on Sunday nights back when I was like 14. And I always hoped that CSM would appear.
