Lyrics for Everlong as interpreted by me109cito

Everlong Lyrics
Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I've thrown myself into
And out of the red, out of her head, she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head, she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breath out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head, I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when

This song is about Dave Grohl's EVERLONGing desire to have gay sex, Since Kurt Cobain (his Gay Lover) died in 1994 (supposedly) , he Has only Had sex with Women, (supposedly) exept for two men. Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear (Twice)

When I first heard the song, all I heard was the very end and I thought it was about a sado-masochistic relationship. Later, after hearing the rest of it... I absolutely love it.

as for meaning... like many songs, it is VERY open to interpretation. I think its a love song, but I don't think that there's enough in the song to be completly sure of anything.

This is def. my FAVORITE Foo Fighters song. Everything about is great-the lyrics, instruments, and vocals-dave has so much emotion when he sings it. No matter how many times i listen to this song i never grow tired of it. I also love the acoustic version of just dave singing. Fucking awesome!!!

ever notice how there's those songs that you'll not be intently listening to, then right when the song comes to a climax you find yourself air-drumming/guitaring/singing to?

yeah this is one of those songs

About Dave's divorce, amazing song, haunting. Real good. Obviously he's sad that the relationship has ended, he's going through his memories of the good times, blah blah. He wants to savour every moment with the girl, "Breathe out, so I can breathe you in, hold you in" shows that much. But it's pretty easy to figure out what it's about anyway, I think.

Or maybe they got drunk and fucked and Dave got delusions that they'd get back together.

In 2003 I was listening to the most kick ass radio show on the planet Loveline with Adam Corrola and Doctor Drew, and Dave Grohl was a special guest,

They discussed various things like Nirvana and the Foos and songs, when Adam asked him about this song, Dave paused and said, "well.. this song is about, the wonders of ... going down on your woman...."

Dave Grohl is the man....

Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I've thrown myself into
And out of the red, out of her head, she sang"

and

"When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Gotta promise not to stop when I say, when"

This could be about so many different things. Love? The passion of singing with a band like NIrvana? Inner struggle between him and his self?

Once again, Dave cleverly writes lyrics that allow room for interpretation. It is the listener who decides for his/her self what the lyrics are all about.

I have considered maybe he's expressing sadness/emotion at Nirvana's Demise. But yet again, as so many have correctly put it: Not everything is about Nirvana / Kurt Cobain.

Perhaps he is struggling within himself to "walk away" from that sad demise? perhaps he is in love swith some one and this is a metaphoric song about her? Who knows, or cares? Just enjoy the song in the way YOU understand it.

RAWK ON :D

This song is about sex
literaly, sex
singing along is screaming in pleasure together
if anything could ever be this good again- no need to explain
there's a lot of other things in there that i can't be bothered to say, but you get the picture
this is about how serious relationships get when sex is involved 'not to stop when i say when' is the example here
Got it in one :)

the song is undoubtedly excellent.
The Video-Clip however - now that is a Masterpiece, so rich, so elaborate, so many things into a very limited space - I've seen 3 hours movies with less plot :)

Dave Grohl > Kurt Cobain (as wonderful as he was..)

Best song ever. It possesses such beauty, simplicity.. created with such a magnificent touch.
Definitely mixed emotions, but a lot of the time I take it literally. Singing with my mates, nothing could ever be this good again. For me it's a song of nostalgia I suppose. I love it.

This song means a lot to me. You don't need to analyse it to understand its underlying meaning. Just one of those songs...
