Lyrics for Everlong as interpreted by me109cito

Everlong Lyrics
Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I've thrown myself into
And out of the red, out of her head, she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head, she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breath out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head, I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when

the reason why this song is one of the greatest of all time is because it has a beautiful simplicity to it that other songs don't. Sure you could add extra instrumentals and more complex lyrics and maybe create a "better" song but that would just take away from the pristine human sound that this tune has.

I hate you all. This song is not beautiful, it's about getting stoned and fucking. The guitar is just a bunch of power chords and octave chords.

A few years ago I saw the Foo Fighters in concert. The whole show, they didn't play Everlong. Everybody thought they were saving it for last, but when the next act came out I thought the crowd was going to storm the stage, and apparently security did too, there was such a frenzy. Then they came out for an encore and played the hell out of it. Most incredible musical experience in my life.

this song is about being young and madly in love, but while basking in love's warmth, the question arises if their current joy can last. the beautiful part is when she asks for him "not to stop when I say when", this is almost like her letter to the future him. If and when the relationship goes sour in the future and she tells him "when" to stop loving her and break the relationship, he is to remember to disregard what she says and remember how sweet it was, can, and should be-- to hold on, and assumedly her feelings will rekindle and their love can last everlong. very beautiful song, I recommend the acoustic version as well

Love this song, especially the acoustic versions.
I wonder how Dire Straits would have interpreted this song, imagine Mark Knoplers improvisation on this theme... wow

to me, it's about the simple moments in life that mean the most, times when you feel really alive.

i associate the song with the amazing friends i found at college. we all "get" each other... we can sit around for hours and pretty much do nothing together..and it's the best thing in the world. just being with them is enough, and i think that's what the song is saying.

This song is purely and simply about Tantric Sex

I've waited here for you everlong
[it's a waiting game]

And waste away with me
[takes a long time]

Slow how you wanted it to be
[part of the method]

If everything could ever feel this real forever
[the whole objective]

Got to promise not to stop when I say when
[all part of the communication]

Breath out so I can breathe you in
[this is the Tantric breathing technique]

Hold you in
[this is the deal and for a long/everlong time]

i love this song too, i really do.

but could someone please explain the sexual undertones, and which lyrics specifically?

im not criticizing, just curious.

i always thought the song was just... i don't know, sweet, how euphoric you are in another person's presence.

This song means everything to me. It reminds me of my first and only love. When I saw Dave play this in concert I was in a different world. Foo Fighters are the greatest band alive. And this song will always hit me hard.

It's been by privilege as a drummer to jam on this remarkably wonderful song a few times over the years.

Not that I think I ever got all of those fills 100% right on any given attempt, but I tried. Oh, how I tried.

This song is amazing thats really all that can be said about it....Its my song with my boyfriend and everytime i hear this song I'm reminded about when me and him got back together and about when we heard this song how perfect it described the way we feel about eachother even while we were no longer together this song will always remind me of the man that has my heart and how much we've fought to be together and how great everything is now because of it.... to me this song is love...pure and simple.

Ever sang this song to people you have known who've passed on? The nights driving solo down some desolate road, but you're really not alone?

i think its funny that bob dylan, one of the greatest songwriters in the history of the planet, lol, asked dave grohl to show him how to play this song cuz he loved it so much. you know you've written a great song when bob dylan wants you to show him how to play it, haha

hmmm i can't remember whether i commented on this song earlier...
anyways...this is one of the most beautiful songs ever!
So honest and simple....one of the best by the Foo fighters definetely. I think its about finding that love that you'll never find anywhere else, it wouldn't be that good as the one you have right now. Or it could be describing the last time two people are together before going their separate ways.

The best song of all time! There is so much pure emotion in this song. Personally I think it's the greatest love song ever written. But for some reason whenever I need to get pumped up, I listen to this song. Thank you Foo Fighters for this song!

Usually i tend to judge songs, in terms of whether i like it or love it, on the lyrics, and perceived meaning behind the song. I may like the music a lot, but not enjoy the lyrics.

but in this case, the foo fighters don't need me to to do this. i dont care what the meaning of this song is. i just know that i love the music so much that i dont need to know it. Its got everything a great should have. its dramatic, its fast, its slow, its hard, its soft, it has feeling and, whatever it is, it has meaning too.

So, in my opinion, i think all those bickering about the true meaning should sit back & enjoy the brilliant song it is. its definately one of my all-time favourites, and it will remain that way.

I love both songs, acoustic or it's "rock" one. This is the first foo fighters song I heard and I heard this song was when I was 5 1/2 years old.I still remember it,it was my favorite song then, and it still is to this day.

This is the first song that I learned how to play on my guitar ENTIRELY,and sing along to while playing it.

This is one of the most beautiful love songs out there, and for people who think this song is about Kurt Cobain, please stick your heads outta your ass and just stop thinking Dave writes songs about him.
