For me everytime i hear the song i can imagine its about sex. "you gotta promise not to stop when i say when". Meaning please don't stop even when I tell you I'm "done" as in done organsming? I don't know, thats what I think of but no matter what the songs about listeners should hold on to their own interpretation. As long as it means something to you, that's all that matters. I don't like to think that its about dave grohl cheating on his wife cause that's just kind of sad and depressing. But this is absolutely one of my all time favorite songs.

This song is without question, my favorite. To me, it expresses everything you could hope to feel with someone. It was written beautifully and the music matches it perfectly. Though, the accoustic version is more heartfelt, the instrumental part at the end of the song is the best I've heard.
This sond stands for desire. He has a passionate desire to stay in this utopia he's entered.

The only thing I'll ever ask of you

That's powerful, and couldn't be more perfect to describe a desire to be with someone.

This is a great song. The guitar parts are cool, and so is the video (very FF video). Not my favourite (the fact that it's a love song played at weddings a lot is part of that), but a good one. I prefer either hard rock FF songs (FFL, Colour and the Shape, Low) or heart-touchingly haunting ones (February Stars, World, Home). Anyways, the meaning, I've heard, is more than a love song; based on a technical manual (something like that) Dave Grohl said, a love letter (obviously), and possible aboot negative feelings. I've also heard it being aboot Kurt Cobain, but I highly doubt that; despite most other FF fans accrediting Dave's music to Kurt Cobain, it isn't all aboot him. Don't get me wrong, I'm a die-hard Nirvana fan and Dave was friends with Kurt, but he has more he can write aboot and doesn't like to get into his Nirvana days (in an interview, he said he doesn't listen to Nirvana albums, like opening an old box of pictures).

this has been one of my favourites for a very long time now. it makes me feel nostalgic, sad, happy, romantic and so much more. it's like every feeling i have ever felt and feelings i haven't experienced just come out when i hear this song. i've never had s song touch me so deeply. i absolutely adore it. i have said this before about other songs, but yeah, declare this my all time number one favourite. if you think you can find another song which can make me feel the way everlong does let me know. Until then, everlong ftw! :)

I think this song is about the ecstacy, but also fragility of love. How you can be feeling so high and so happy, but you wonder if it could ever be taken away from you.
But i think its also just about being in the moment and feeling that happiness, and not worrying about it.
Its a beautiful song, its so so powerful. It makes me well up, and feel uplifted at the same time.
The more i listen to it, i hear it differently, and better.
Its not overly lyrical, yet its not too simple. Its emotional, but its not slushy.
Its near perfect.

I agree with changingdirection, this song is about sex:

"She sang / I sang" I think refers to crying out in orgasm. She's having an orgasm before him, because he's going "Slow how, You wanted it to be"

I love both songs,acoustic or it's "rock" one.This is the first foo fighters song I heard and I heard this song was when I was 5 1/2 years old.I still remember it,it was my favorite song then,and it still is to this day.

This is the first song that I learned how to play on my guitar ENTIRELY,and sing along to while playing it.

This is one of the most beautiful love songs out there,and for people who think this song is about Kurt Cobain,please stick your heads outta your ass and just stop thinking Dave writes songs about him.

Usually i tend to judge songs, in terms of whether i like it or love it, on the lyrics, and perceived meaning behind the song. I may like the music a lot, but not enjoy the lyrics.

but in this case, the foo fighters don't need me to to do this. i dont care what the meaning of this song is. i just know that i love the music so much that i dont need to know it. Its got everything a great should have. its dramatic, its fast, its slow, its hard, its soft, it has feeling and, whatever it is, it has meaning too.

So, in my opinion, i think all those bickering about the true meaning should sit back & enjoy the brilliant song it is. its definately one of my all-time favourites, and it will remain that way.
