Lyrics for Everlong as interpreted by me109cito

Everlong Lyrics
Hello
I've waited here for you
Everlong

Tonight
I've thrown myself into
And out of the red, out of her head, she sang

Come down
And waste away with me
Down with me

Slow how
You wanted it to be
I'm over my head, out of her head, she sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

Breath out
So I can breathe you in
Hold you in

And now
I know you've always been
Out of your head, out of my head, I sang

And I wonder
When I sing along with you
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when
She sang

And I wonder
If everything could ever feel this real forever
If anything could ever be this good again
The only thing I'll ever ask of you
Got to promise not to stop when I say when

OK, I read the lyrics for the first time today, and I can see it's obviously about sex. But I think it could also be about music as well. I already knew the chorus, which, as deepermeaning said about five posts ago, sounds like it's about Cobain, as does "Come down
And waste away with me". Maybe Grohl's saying that music is like sex?

i love this song. i plan to do a cover of it with my band when it starts to pick up. i think i would do an acoutsic version. i wish i had written this song. has anyone heard the FULL BAND acoustic version? it's awesome. that's one reason this song is so good. it can be redone and have many different meanings to it, and still be a quality song that rocks. I LOVE MUSIC! dave grohl is awesome. i like everything he's been involved in. Nirvana, The Foo Fighters, Probot , Tenacious D!!!! they all rule.

hmm first off this is my FAVORITE song of all time...and it looks like i'm not alone here...oh and i had no idea that so many other people had a thing for the "breathe out, so i can breathe you in, hold you in" line...its refreshing to know some other people actually have some musical taste!

as to the meaning of the song: well the first couple of times i listened to it i assumed that it was a love song...beautiful...passionate...deep. now that i've listened to it roughly 10000 times i'm not positive...but i have a suspision that it might have another meaning...Grohl might have been reffering to Cobain when he sings "when i sing along with you" due to them being in the band together, and as much as i hate to say it, "breathe out, so i can breathe you in, hold you in" really reminds me of smoking heroin...and " if anything could ever feel this real forever, if anything could ever feel this good again" sure sounds like euphoria to me... overall I think its a love song with a dual meaning...cause when you really think about it...drug addiction can be a lot like being in love.

Just got to see these guys live. Their performance of this song blew me away. I had forgotten just how awesome it was. Only problem was it didn't give me any greater clue as to what he whispers in the middle.

I like Foo Fighters better than Nirvana. Nirvana didn't do anything for me. They were way too depressing and slow for my liking, but this is really a great song, especially live. It's one of those songs that make you remember times you've had and add to memories. Like, when you hear this song you remember a really good time.

quite possibly one of the most perfect songs ever, classic in its musicality and its lyrical content. With its driving guitars pushing him closer to the end of the song and of them. All that and the song kicks mad monkey balls.

I love this song. The original version is amazing, but it doesn't even begin to compare to the acoustic version. There is something haunting and almost painful in Dave Grohls voice, and it's almost as if he's singing to you only.
My top ten list changes quite regularly, depending on my mood, and at the moment, it is currently at top postion, but as my top ten list is always changing, next week it will be different.

I think that it's a simple love song. But Dave has made it great by not actually saying "Love." I feel like it's just saying "You're crazy. I'm crazy. I enjoy your company. Thanks. Keep doing what you're doing." It's a very stripped down song which is what makes it so powerful. It's hard to find songs like that that say so much so few words.

A pretty darn good song, however you look at it.

I remember hearing this song a long, long time ago (okay, so a couple years ago isn't too long), but the first time that I can actually remember is when I was moving cities last March.. tough thing for a kid like me to do. I was in the U-Haul with my dad when this song came on, and it was instantly the best song I've ever heard. I don't know much about how to measure talent, but I think just the way this song comes through the speakers, the end result, makes it the best ever. I love the way it sounds so simple but so complex, the passion, the emotion, the pace... Hell, I even love the simple guitar-work in the chorus. There's nothing not to like about this song even if you're one of those kinds of people who expects i-couldnt-have-written-this-type guitarwork. I'm sure thirty or fourty years from now I'll be blaring this through my speakers just as my parents still listen to songs like "Hotel California" and "Stairway to Heaven."

all these years, i adored everlong, but honestly preferred my hero (particularly because of the awsome drumming in that song), but then i downloaded the acoustic version of everlong, hell, it's a WHOLE lot better than the original everlong, and that version's amazing to begin with! i seriously got goosebumps...i totally agree with everyone here who said they liked the acoustic version and i recommend it to ANYONE who loves this song and never heard the acoustic version :) everlong is now my new fave song

I remember the first time It hit me that this is my alltime favorite song. It was a few years back, on a friends episode, when ross almost married emily, and their wedding song was an instrumental version of Everlong. I was like, "I KNOW THAT SONG". It was before I ever heard the Accoustic version, and then I did, and I was in Heaven. I love this song so much, and dave grohl is my idol as a musician. It just amazes me how influential he's become since Nirvana: Drums, Riffs, Lyrics... he does them all.

this is definately a favorite of mine. the lyrics are just about love and hoping that it'll last forever. the reason i love this song is that when these lyrics are set to that music, it just sounds so sincer. it's real. really real. it's the closest thing to audio perfection i've ever heard, and it's brought me to tears more than once. earthshattering.
