Hangin' on here until I'm gone
Right where I belong just hangin' on
Even though, watched you come and go
How was I to know you'd steal the show?
One day I'll have enough to gamble
I'll wait to hear your final call bet it all
Hangin' on here until I'm gone
Right where I belong, just hangin' on
Even though, pass this time alone
Somewhere so unknown, it heals the soul
You ask for walls, I'll build them higher
We'll lie in shadows of them all
I'd stand, but they're much to tall
And I fall
February stars re floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars
February stars floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars
February stars floating in the dark
Temporary scars
February stars

General Comment:I think it's pretty obvious that it's about Kurt. Has anyone thought about Kurt's birthday being in February? And no, I'm not one of those people that thinks ever FF song is about Kurt, but in this case, I think so.

General Comment:With this song, I picture a person in the middle of field in the middle of no where laying on the hood of their car all alone staring up at the stars on a cold and clear February night. They are reflecting on a close friendship with someone over time where they developed romantic feelings for the other person that were not reciprocated:

    "hanging on
    here until I'm gone
    I'm right where I belong
    just hanging on
even know I watched you come and go
    how was I to know
    you'd steal the show?"

In this verse what is being said is "we have been good friends forever, I have developed feelings beyond just friendship".

"one day I'll have enough to gamble
I'll wait to hear your final call
    and bet it all"

Here he is waiting to build up enough courage to tell her how he feels and see if she feels the same way. Bet is all is a reference to the value of their friendship and his feelings. He could ruin both by telling her.

    "I'm hanging on
    here until I'm gone
    right where I belong
    just hanging on
even know I pass this time alone
    somewhere so unknown
    it heals the soul"

This really paints a picture of someone just staring into the sky reflecting on their feelings. "Hanging on" represents time passing, day by day, week by week, month by month.

    "you ask for walls
    I'll build them higher
we'll lie in the shadows of them all
I'd stand but they're much to tall
    and I fall"

Here walls represent the boundaries of friendship. He builds these walls higher as he enjoys their friendship and spending time with her, but he has built the walls so tall he will never be able to get over them to something more than friendship, so he gives up and and comes to accept that friendship is the only thing this relationship will ever be.

    "February stars
    Floating in the dark
    Temporary scars
    February stars..."

The final words and instrumentals of this song really represent the bittersweet feelings one can have when they come to a moment of truth. In this case it is that their friendship will always be something special, but it will only be a friendship. Now, all alone in a field in the middle of no where, a man lays staring at the stars and the blackness of space and comes to terms with his feelings.

General Comment:For some reason this song sounds like a story about a guy who’s had a secret crush on a girl for a very long time. Maybe he’s liked her for years but has never approached her/let her know his feelings about her. He’s a loser/not very confident/shy, and he chooses to “just hang on” “right where [he] belongs”, maybe she’s out of his league. Then he talks about one day having “enough to gamble” for her, and when that happens he’ll “wait to hear your final call” and see if she likes him back…? Until then though, he’s just hanging on. Then later he kinda sacs up and talks about building higher walls for her, where they can lay in the grass in the shadow of the wall, kinda like an oasis/heaven for them to live happily ever after. The part where I had to stop and think it through was the very end where he talks about falling. That seems like a negative connotation but could actually be taken positively, where he falls from the wall (or trying to look over the wall whichever one) into the grass beside her as they look at the stars. Then the drums and electric guitar kick in and CRANK IT and the entire ecstasy of the moment is blasting as he realizes he’s won her over, as he talks about “temporary stars”, meaning this moment won’t last forever so enjoy it…that’s my take.

My Interpretation:This song is just beautiful.

Here's what it means to me: a guy sacrificed everything he could for this relationship, and then the girl left him. Hence the "one day I'll have enough to gamble" (suggesting that he'll work his way back up) and the "bet it all". He knows that the pain he's in is only temporary (temporary scars) but it still hurts way too much.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I like that interpretation cause that's exactly what happened to me a month ago or so, and I'm still kind of struggling with it.. I just love this song.s\

General Comment:are these right? I allways hear it as:

'you ask for walls I'll build them higher
we'll lie in shadows of them all
i'd stand but they're much too tall
    and i fall'

But maybe its cos thats what I want to hear lol. I see this song as hanging on to someone even though its over, and not quite wanting to move on, but having a sort of indifference to it as though you're seeing it from someone elses point of view...

General Comment:Does anyone realize this song was done before Dave Grohl joined Nirvana?

Please, cut the shit with the Kurt Cobain references. You're looking for something thats just not there. The song was done well before 1994, as were quite a few songs on the first and second record.

    Its getting really comical now.

General Comment:For me, it could mean about waiting until you get what you think is yours. I dunno, but either way, it's just so good. I'm covering this myself.
