Lyrics for My Hero as interpreted by me109cito

My Hero Lyrics
Too alarming now to talk about
Take your pictures down and shake it out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary
Kudos my hero leaving all the best
You know my hero, the one that's on
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes
There goes my hero
He's ordinary

I agree with the last two posts. It must be a little frustrating for Dave that every song he writes is tied to Kurt somehow. That was definately a huge thing in his life and a huge influence, but people have a way of getting over things in time. He didn't write it about Kurt, but about people who are heroes despite being regular, ordinary people. I do believe, however, that he thinks about Kurt every time he sings this song.

this is definatly one of the best songs.... my friend is a BIG foo fighters fan. I am a big fan also but not big enough because ive only seen/heard of foo fighters just in the past 2 years... ive been listening 2 there music for as long as ive hurd them but still am still thinking about what it means.... the only 2 that are resonable are the kurt and every day ppl being heros dunno about anything else... that thing about the dad is also very resonable but the hockey thing not possible and some of the other things are possible but its more of a kurt and every day heros that is what the songs about.....

sori if i confused any1 right now i cant think right now im at skool...

Well..i think this song is about a couple of things mentioned..When people say its just about ordinary people it could also be about Kurt.. One of Kurts biggest things he hated was being a big superstar..he never wanted to be big..Kurt wanted to be ordinary..and play music...Kurts journals he talks about how he hated being a superstar..now being a big fan i never wanted those released..Dave fronted the resistance against Courtney realeasing them for her own benefit..

Dave is one of the most talented musicians in the world..hes played in three bands.. Nirvana,Foo Fighters..but none of you mentioned his Drumming job in the Queens of The Stone Age.. Dave said: "I can play the drums and I can also play the guitar and sing in Foo Fighters, and I want to be able to do both," Grohl explained. "Just to be able to exercise that option and say, 'I think I'm gonna go play drums for a while in this kick-ass band that everyone thinks is awesome, and then I'll go back and headline the Reading Festival [with Foo Fighters].' That's so great, man. Who wouldn't wanna do that?"

I love the Foo Fighters..I listen to the acoustic version of this song from the Howard Stern show almost every day..My opinion of one of the best songs ever..

Oh and btw..I think people saying that it would suck for him cause everyone thinks his songs are about Kurt or Nirvana..is wrong..Dave thinks so highly of Kurt..he was his friend and bandmate..Plus a lot of Daves songs are about his experience in Nirvana..

Although I bet on many people saying "fuck you, fuck off, you don't know anything about any shit" It's not going to stop me from analyzing the song from my point of view...sorry if this is long by the way.
Too alarming now to talk about-Dave doesn't really like to talk about the sad and scary death of Kurt.
Take your pictures down and shake it out-Trying to calm down, to shake of the sadness.
Truth or consequence, say it aloud
Use that evidence, race it around-? Maybe to find out what really happened, like was it the truth, or was it the effect of something else? (I'd love to hear more insight on that)
There goes my hero
Watch him as he goes-Even if Kurt committed suicide, he wasn't afraid of dying, as if to say watch him be ok with it.
There goes my hero
He's ordinary-Kurt had problems just like everyone else.
Don't the best of them bleed it out
While the rest of them peter out--Not sure, maybe getting used to him being gone, but not really???
Kudos my hero leaving all the best-I've heard that this means KUrt DOnald'S my hero...like something hidden, I don't really want to argue with that, but I think he left all the best music he could, really influential.
You know my hero, the one that's on-I guess everyone knew Cobain, especially around the time when he was on the news for a few good days, even though this song was written after that.

*I really like this song, it makes me feel so sad, even if it's not about Cobain. Anyone losing their hero in life would be sad.

I don't know for sure, I just thought it's pretty interesting to think of it that way. I've heard that the beginning is similar to that of Scentless Apprentice. No. Not really.

It's about normal, everyday people who show themselves to be heros. Why won't you people accept that it's not about Kurt?

Hey guys, Dave took a shit. He did it because of Kurt's great influence.

"dont tell me how to make a record i was in nirvana. i was in the greatest rock and roll band of the 90s. we changed the course of rock music."
--dave grohl drunk

This song was written in the honor of Kurt Cobain. I think the line "Here goes my hero, he`s ordinary", refers to how everybody looked upon Kurt as a god, when he actually wanted them to look upon him as the same ordinary person he was before Nirvana became famous. He wasn`t perfect, but still he was a good man, and Dave Grohl appreciated him really much. With this song Dave tells us about how much Kurt really meant to him.

this song is fucking amazing. i remember the first time i heard it, i was like 8. it blew me away then, and still does today. i think this song is a tribute to 3 different people.

oh, and jakebert, if you are so sure its not about kurt, then how about some proof?

i dont mean to sound like a dick or anything, but i just want to be certain if its about him or not.

It is about Kurt Cobain because for one it says "too alarming now to talk about" ((death of kurt)) "take your pictures out shake it out" ((Pictures of Kurt)) "truth or consequence say it aloud, use that evidence race it around" ((the dilemna that kurt had either been murdered or suicide))

And to back up Dave Grohls quote:

"MY HERO
"That's my way of saying that when I was young, I didn't have big rock heroes, I didn't want to grow up and be some big sporting hero. My heroes were ordinary people and the people that I have a lot of respect for are just solid everyday people - people you can rely on"

Meaning that his best friend, (ordinary people, everyday people meaning he saw everyday at work) Kurt was his hero. It doesn't say anything about Kurt not being his hero. Read over the quote, and put it in another perspective. It was about Kurt.

and also it says

"there goes my hero, hes ordinary"

which backs up Dave Grohls quote:

"My hero's were orginary people"

Also where the lyrics say

"dont the rest of the bleed it out"
(kurt suffered all his life)
"while the rest of them petered out"
(the other people would've quit life before-hand)

i reckon the songs about kurt, just how i interpret it. even tho i was only a lil kid when kurt died i'm a huge fan n i really respect his legacy.
i agree with foetus' take on the song, but theres one thing i wanna add: when it says 'use that evidence, race it around' could he be talkin bout findin out whether it was suicide or murder? and 'race it around' could mean show everyone the evidence cuz if there has been a miscarriage of justice it shouldnt be hushed up? i dunno

I think Dave pays an amazing tribute to Kurt with this song,

the best part about that tragedy was that Dave was able to come out and start his own sound instead of Nirvana Jr or something like that...

It shows that he really respected Kurt and honors his memory
It's more of a celebration of Kurt than a mourning of him...

"Kudos my hero, for leaving us with the best"

Dave has said it's about normal everyday heroes but I think it's kinda to do with Kurt on a subconscious level. Not totally about him though, I don't think Dave was thinking "Oh this song is totally about Kurt" while he was writing it. He's said before that he writes something that, at the time, he has no idea what it's about, and then he realises that it was about something afterall.

Weird, eh?

I agree with juanml. This song is about ordinary people being heroes. Just because Dave was the drummer in Nirvana, it doesn't mean he writes every song about Kurt. The song you can, for sure, say is about Kurt, is Friend of a Friend. =] This song is amazing and I'm addicted.

I agree with MonkeyWrench way back - this song is more likely to be about Dave's Dad.

(almost) Every little boy's hero is his dad.

I lost my dad when I was 14 and I think about him when I hear this song.

On a more general note the song is just about everyday heroes too. This firefighter thing somebody mentioned - I didn't know about that but the video I have seen for this song has a Fire Fighter theme.

Awesome song - this and everlong are my faves from this album!

Plus I really do NOT think this is about Kurt Cobain. For Crying Out Loud!!!
