  My Interpretation:I think the song's about getting "friendzoned", for lack of a better term.
  "Sometimes I feel I'm getting stuck between the handshake and the fuck,"
  He's known this girl for a while and gotten past the "handshake", but he can't sleep with her, though, and hasn't gotten to the "fuck".

  General Comment:I think the title of the song gives away the meaning. He's doing a lot of second guessing, and thinking about this girl. We've all done it, looked deeper into stuff than we should have. I get the feeling "my poor brain" is like DG taking a look from the outside looking in (maybe reflecting) on all the over analyzing he did. "real life is so hard, we hide in the stars" he says "our heads" then "my head and your heart" maybe he thought more with his head and didnt follow his heart, and the girl leads by emotions not thoughts. There's definitely a connection between them hiding in the stars, and the blackout though. Can't quite seem to put my finger on it. The handshake and a....line, like you all said kicks ass. and to me is (i know it's been sad) about being caught in that "are we friends or are we more" area.

  General Comment:Yeah, this song definetely has similarities to Pearl Jam's Last Exit, both are fast off-kilter rock songs, except this song has more depth (Although I think Pearl Jam is the better band). Awesome song...

  General Comment:I agree with what you guys say about the handshake line. It pretty much sums up the whole song. The guy and the girl used to be together, now they're not, and when he sees her he's not sure whether he should just shake her hand (try to be just a friend) or fuck her (try to get back together), and it gets to him, he feels like he's getting stuck, makes him a bit crazy, hence the title 'My Poor Brain.'
  
  I think that the actual music of the song shows his emotions flaring up and down too, the chorus is loud, the verses are soft (mainly).

  General Comment:Yeah, I like that meaning too, except for one thing. I recently read (much to my disappointment) that you don't actually explode in a vacuum; human skin is strong enough that your body merely swells up and you die from a lack of oxygen.

  General Comment:"sometimes I feel I'm getting stuck, between the handshake and the fuck" i think is the line that says what the whole song is about. i think it's about thinking too much about whether a particular relationship will work and not just trusting your heart. oh how much this is about my life!

  General Comment:The line "sometimes I feel I'm getting stuck, between the handshake and the fuck" is one of the all time great lines in my opinion. Its like one of thos simple things that somebody says that you can completely relate to your life. Its the ultimate verbalization of sexual frustration.

  General Comment:I know it's not the intended meaning, but "my poor brain" is a great name for the song just because it's a good song to listen to when you're really (I mean REALLY) stressed.
