Lyrics for Doll as interpreted by me109cito

Doll Lyrics
you know in all the times that we shared
i've never been so scared
doll me up in my bad luck
i'll meet you there
i wish i never had taken this dare
i wasn't quite prepared
doll me up in my bad luck
doll me up in my bad luck
i'll meet you there

I'm not sure what it means but it's a great song. Dave Grohl is a great lyricist... I just wish he would take music as seriously now as he did then.

I don't like it much as the first track on the colour and the shape, I think it would be much better between 2 heavier songs later on in the album. Good song though.

I think it's about trying to get over a lover's death, but I can't be arsed going over it right now.

I think this song relates how a person knows someone for a long time, and then finds themselves falling in love with them... I think this because I've been in the situation myself, so it sort of relates that sentiment, to me at least...

The line "Doll me up in my bad luck" seems to say, "take notice of my faults, see who I am, but realize that there's more to me than my past indiscretions"...maybe it refers to how he probably screwed up in the past, and wants to reconcile with the other, like in the lne "I'll meet you there..." Just my thoughts anyway.

this song is short and its the first track because its an introduction. the "i'll meet you there..." sort of invites you in to listen to the rest.
and dont you think it sort of sums up the whole album? cuz the colour and the shape is pretty much about love, all the shit that comes with it, and especially the good stuff too.

Haven, your description is very well said, and I completely agree. Dave seems to have fallen for someone he never intended to, and hes worried that this new found love of his is going to mess up what was once a geat friendship.

I totally agree with Sweaty-Goth.. But any song can be conformed into anyones translation.. I mean, I can see references to Kurt Cobain, if I wanted to think thats what the song was about, like "I'll meet you there." And, "You know in all of the times that we shared, I've never been so scared"

yeah, i can see how it could be about falling in love with someone after knowing them for so long, but in that sense it totally applies to the whole kurt cobain theory. 'i'll meet you there' is totally referencing kurt and so is the 'in all of the times that we've shared i've never been so scared.'

It is about kurt. Kurt had an obsession with dolls. Both Dave Grohl and Courtney Love makes references to ‘dolls’ in their lyrics.

‘i’ve never been so scared’ – Dave said in an interview how the whole nirvana days were like a blur. In the middle of interviews he used to go off to the toilet and have panic attacks because he couldn’t believe how quick the fame thing was happening and then kurt died and it really affected him. I think the song is just about the whole journey.

i dont rite on these, i especially signed up b cos use are all missing the point
i think this song is about his divorce. loads of the songs on TCATS are, like everlong and new way home. It states right at the beginnning of everything that he is scared of what might happen to him, probly in life and the album, now he is on his own. it is saying that after of all the years of having a partner he is scared of being alone
(you know in all the times that we shared
i've never been so scared)
if u notice, the first song on the album is about being scared of being alone and the last, new way home, is about not being scared anymore (i felt like this on my way home, i'm not scared)
makes sense anyway

I agree that it's to do with his divorce, but I think it's mainly about the stage where he really wants to commit to her, but he doesn't realise he's doing it prematurely, hence the shitty relationship.

The "I'll meet you there" line suggests to me that he's gonna meet with her and talk about the fact he wants to commit to her, or whatever.

I love this song and the colour and the shape. I think it's a great introduction to the album about how scared he is, his vocals make him sound very vulnerble on this track, but then he progresses and then finally at the end of the album he realizes everythings going to be ok.

Where I got my username from! (Obviously)
I think it's a beautiful song. Dave's voice is almost fragile and weak, enforcing the notion of him being so afraid. It's a great way to start the The Colour and The Shape.

Stop talking about Kurt, it's not all about him... I think it's about a guy that's in a relationship and he realizes that he wasn't prepared to have a girlfriend and he's afraid because he doesn't want to end it, and he thinks that maybe in the future it would really work.

As the first Foo Fighters song on the first Foo album it's about Kurt,..namely Nirvana's rise of fame, and Kurt's death. The 'scared' line is about post-Nirvana and Dave being terrified about what to do. 'Meet you there' is obviously meeting Kurt in the afterlife. He wishes he never joined Nirvana ('taken this dare') because as we all know, Dave did not handle the fast rise to fame very well and his friend killed himself perhaps because of it...he definitely wasn't 'prepared' for that. I don't think many Foo songs are about Nirvana. But this one is.

Simple, absolutely beautiful way to kick off a tremendous album.
