Stay until
You're sure that i'm asleep
Warm safe and very still
Give all my things away
Just wait until tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy
Every afternoon i wasted being mad at You
The things I never said
The things I can't say tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy
After death i'll think of You somehow
I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow
I beg of You tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy
You're sure that i'm asleep
Warm safe and very still
Give all my things away
Just wait until tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy
Every afternoon i wasted being mad at You
The things I never said
The things I can't say tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy
After death i'll think of You somehow
I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow
I beg of You tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy

"Stay until you're sure that I'm asleep" - Don't leave me yet, don't go until I'm gone.
"Just wait until tomorrow, bury me in sorrow, cover me in joy" - I'm gone. You'll get past this and in the meantime, be sad if you must, but remember me with joy, becauser that's how I'll remember you.
"Every afternoon I wasted being mad at you, the things I never said, the things I can't say tomorrow" - All of that shit isn't important, I said things and you said things and the rest will never come, so don't dwell.
"I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow" - I'm not going anywhere. I just might never think of anything but you again, and how you're getting on, and what happened once I was gone?
That's my take on it, folks.
"stay until you're sure that i'm asleep" [not wanting the lover to leave]
"Just wait until tomorrow
Bury me in sorrow
Cover me in joy" [the lover leaving, and the person having to deal with different emotions after they're gone]
"Every afternoon i wasted being mad at You
The things I never said
The things I can't say tomorrow" [wasting time before the person leaves and than realizing that they may not come back for a long time]
"I'll have an eternity to think about tomorrow" [maybe as in i'll have an eternity to think about you not being there?]
it's a stretch, but that's my perception.
This is not only my favorite Nada Surf song, but one of my favorite songs of all time.
