Who the hell are you to tell me
What I am and what's my master plan
What makes you think that it includes you
Self-righteous wealth
Stop flattering yourself

So when the smoke clears here I am
Your reject all-American
Sucking up your social sect
Making you a nervous wreck
To hell and back and hell again I've gone
You're not my type
Not my type

What's the difference between you and me
I do what I want and you do what you're told
So listen up and shut the hell up
It's no big deal and I'll see you in hell

So when the smoke clears here I am
Your reject all-American
Sucking up your social sect
Making you a nervous wreck
To hell and back and hell again I've gone
You're not my type
Not my type
Not my type
You're not my type

So when the smoke clears here I am
Your reject all-American
Falling from grace right on my face
To hell and back and hell again I've gone

General Comment:This is not where the All American Rejects got their name. Maybe they registered it subconciously, but they do not claim to have gotten it from here.

Am I the only person who saw the Bikini Kill reference? The song "Reject All American." The ALBUM "Reject All American"? Hellooooo?

General Comment:I really think this had to be where The All American Rejects got their name from.

General Comment:that letter is kinda funny. because she (the person who wrote him the letter) wants him to right something GOOD. and green day songs have sooooo much meaning and depth, and most people who listen to green day find thier music good. anyway, its people like that who make the world bad, they just don't have open minds and they certainly don't let people do what they want to do.

p.s. i'm talking about the letter on the website that W33nie has posted.

General Comment:greendaygirl2: I just want to say that you said that very well. It made so much sense to me when I read it.

And I love the new album too. Dedicated fans of Green Day should like them unconditionally, not only when they make and Dookie- or Nimrod-sounding album.

General Comment:I agree with some of the people above.

The song was initially written as a response to an angry letter from the mother of an eight-year-old boy complaing about the content of Green Day's songs and how Billie Joe could put his talent to a better use. This is, more or less, his response.

To me personally, this song is aboout doing whatever the hell you want to do and not listening to what other people say. It's also a message to everyone who likes to stick their nose where it doesn't belong telling them to back off. It's a you live your life and I'll live mine kind of thing.

I don't think Billie Joe is a typical reject. I just think he does what he wants and as many people accept him as they do reject him, but I don't think it makes a difference to him.

General Comment:Did All American Rejects get their name from this? The song is quality, and is one of their best. Wat's fishy? i really dont get that in context with anyting else you said. But the rest makes sense - i now actually understand the song

General Comment:BillieJoeIsAGenius... love the username! I love this album and in this song when he's all "So when the smoke clears here I am, Your reject all-American, Fallen from grace right on my face.." Because if you think about it, he IS the physical embodiment of the reject all-American. He smokes pot, has tatooes and piercings, didn't go to college and masturbates. HE IS THE REJECT ALL-AMERICAN. In comparison to the I'm blond-went to college-have a big job-happy marriage-white picket fence ideal. And i like the new album even if most of the green day fans on this site don't. It's a cool concept album and one of the most intriguing storylines in punk-rock: where will they go next? From a band that a few years ago looked like they were content to live off their back catalogue. Go them. (Also, their mysterious stolen album supposedly followed a more linear pop pattern than prevoius ones. It was stolen, no-one was fired, it never went on the internet and their co-producer then told them that he thought it was shit. Smell fishy to any1 else?)
