I woke up on the wrong side of the floor.
Made, made my way through the front door.
Broke my engagement with myself.
Perfect picture of bad health, another notch scratched on my belt.

The future just ain't what it used to be.
I got a new start on a dead end road.
Peaked, peaked out on reaching new lows.
Owe, I paid off all my debts to myself.
Perfect picture of bad health, another notch scratched on my belt.

The future's in my living room.
Uptight, I'm a nag with a gun.
All night, suicide's last call.
I've been uptight all night.
I'm a son of a gun.
Uptight I'm a nag with a gun.

In an interview he was asked if the song is about suicide and he refused to discuss it, the only time i ever heard him do that, in later interviews he stated suicide is a serious subject that he isn't comfortable discussing in an interview due to the young fans Green Day are getting.

General Comment:love this song, but it doesn't sound like typical green day...not the lyrics, I mean the way it sounds.

General Comment:I love the repeat chorus, it's very upbeat for such a depressing song. Really, it's just about staying up all night and contemplating suicide because your life sucks. The future seemed so bright before, but because you're a loser with no ambition, everything is messed up, and now you have nothing to look forward to.

General Comment:This is a song about self-loathing, depressed guy, who is asking what's the point? I have a question though: does he commit suicide, or is he merely contemplating doing it? The line, "I'm a son of a gun" could not only be a figure of speech, but could also show that he has become the aftermath of using a gun...

General Comment:I hate those bastards always explaing Green Day lyrics with drugs, drug addiction, etc. Who ever dealt with billie's character, live and personality a litte, knows, that he is partly a quite depressed, dark-minded guy. there are songs bout drugs of course, but you must be a very narrow-minded boozing punk to see the drugs everywhere...
