We're living in repetition
Content in the same old shtick again
Now the routine's turning to contention,
Like a production line going over and over and over,
Roller coaster
Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant
Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words
Choreographed and lack of passion
Prototypes of what we were
Went full circle 'til I'm nauseous
Taken for granted now
Now I waste it, faked it, ate it, now I hate it
Now I cannot speak, I lost my voice
I'm speechless and redundant,
Cause I love you's not enough
I'm lost for words, now I cannot speak

General Comment:Is it possible that this relationship is the same one as in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)? It seems Good Riddance could have been the end of the same relationship. Both involve a very loving but tired relationship that was once amazing and has faded to nothing. If so, "I love you" obviously wasn't enough.

My Interpretation:Most people seem to be in agreement that this song is about a failing relationship, but hear me out anyway. Notice how he says "you's" and not you? "'Cause I love you's not enough". Plural right? For me it's about having an eventual falling out with a group of friends. Something happens and things change, but you try to stick around, for whatever reason. Things go wrong though. I'm not gonna get any more specific than that. I mean... there are far too many people on this site seeking sympathy from strangers, no one needs to hear personal examples. But yeah, that's what the song means to me and how I interpret it. I hope that helps.

My Opinion:Sounds to me like it's the same old relationship, day in and day out. But nonetheless, at the end of the day, he still loves her to pieces.

'Cause "I love you"'s not enough; I'm lost for words. - meaning that he still loves her so much he can't explain it, even though frankly he's a little bored with the routine.

Or, that the so-called routine relationship is exactly what he's always wanted, and he makes it sound like it's boring although it makes him love her even more for having a relationship like that.

General Comment:its about getting bored in some long term relationship, its like theres nothing new it just keeps repeating and repeating constantly. and the line "cause i love yous not enough, Im lost for words" is about how those words (i love you) are so worn out that they're lost its meanings, people in relationship says those words when they go to work, go to sleep, on the phone when saying goodbye...and it just doesnt work
this lyrics describes that feeling of being frustrated about that situation. one of my favorites

General Comment:I read somewhere that Billie Joe wrote this to sum up how he feels for his wife(forgot her name :S), he can't think of another way to express how much he feels for her, hense he's 'redundant', and exhausted for ideas of how to show he feels for her.

General Comment:personally i don't think of this song as being about the end of a relationship...but i suppose that's more to do with when i first heard it & what was going on in my life at that exact time.

i think of it as being about when someone you care about is past the point where you can help.
you've tried to help them but it always ends up the same, until the point where you feel that you're just going around in circles.
saying "i love you" just isn't enough anymore and you feel like there's nothing left you can do to help them.
the whole experience has changed you both and you're not the people you used to be.
basically, you just don't know what to do.

    just my point of view.

General Comment:i agree with humma, it does sound like the relationship is already over..
i think that in the chorus he's really blamming himself.. for not loving her enough.. therefore taking her for granted, n wadever that probly killed off the relationship

its not like he doesn't love her.. he loves her alot, maybe more than he realised.. and by that he tries to fix the relationship, but he doesn't know what to say.. and feels really redundant to do anything right..

so ultimately he blames his not giving her enough love and feels utterly lost for words.

well thats what i think... great song.. simple and sweet melody
