Sometimes, I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear
Take the wheel and steer

It's driven me before
And it seems to have a vague, haunting mass appeal
But lately I am beginning to find
That I should be the one behind the wheel

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes

So if I decide to waiver my chance
To be one of the hive
Will I choose water over wine
And hold my own and drive?

It's driven me before
And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around
But lately I am beginning to find
That when I drive myself my light is found

So whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes, yeh

Whatever tomorrow brings
I'll be there with open arms and open eyes

Would you kill the Queen to crush the hive?
Would you choose water over wine
Hold the wheel and drive?

My Interpretation:I have listened to this song many a times. My opinion of the song in general is that it has a lot to do with making your own choices, regardless of the fears that may scare you away from them. Driving, or taking yourself places, is just an example for what he is trying to do. He "holds his own" by tackling the fears that prevented him from getting anywhere in life. "I'll be there with open arms and open eyes" to me is signifying that no matter what the consequences of his actions, he will always be there for the people that need him and he will never give up.

    My Interpretation:Drive by Incubus

This song is all about fears in general. Each and every one of us has fears in our lives, and sometimes we allow that fear to control us that we are not able to live life to the fullest and enjoy everything we have. I think that this song is to remind us not to allow fear to take control of everything, not to allow fear prevent us from doing the things we love, and not to allow fear to prevent us from living the life we always wanted. Most of us have taken the traditional approach of living but there are those people who are brave enough to venture into the unknown in order to find meaning to their lives, and eventually lead them to their happiness. Because honestly, most of us allow other people to take control of our lives because we are afraid of making mistakes, but this song is an honest representation that we cannot be happy unless we learn to take control of everything. And even though sometimes there is still fear in our part there is an assurance that whatever happens, or whatever tomorrow might bring, we are there, because we had live life and did not allow fear to take over. I think the main message of this song was to be brave and whatever it is that troubles us, we will not allow the fear to paralyze our desire to be happy.

My Interpretation:I think the song in general deals with the choice of taking control of your own life and not by authority. Whether or not this has to do with a religious authority, which is possible with the wine vs water scenario (a common reference to Jesus' blood). But irregardless the songs message still speaks to its message.

The whole metaphor of driving completely illustrates this in such an insightful way. Cars are often viewed as this controlling device that is strong and fast enough to run you over. It is constantly mentioned whether the person should take control of their life through parts like "Take the wheel and steer", "I should be the one behind the wheel" etc.

It also relates to an authority "Would you kill the Queen to crush the hive?". The queen is the symbol of authority, as queen bees are the one in power in their hive. It later goes on to have that argument of if the narrator be the one in control or should it be authority? He brings up that internal debate that its easier for other people to follow the authority and its more accepted in society, but it helps you more if you follow your own path.
"And it seems to be the way that everyone else gets around. But lately I am beginning to find that when I drive myself my light is found".
Even at the end there's that questioning of what's the better decision and what move would others take.

I have felt this too quite often, which is why this song really fascinates me. Its not an easy decision and it really does happen in real life.

General Comment:i think that this story is about how letting others control what you do can lead to a destructive path and that if you dont believe that you can take control of yourself and do what is right then you will never be able to live freely and act on your own wants and needs

General Comment:This is about new found sobriety and the need for the singer to take control of his life because apparently everyone around him are alcoholics and his life is out of control

My Interpretation:I this song is about Jews and their God Yahweh. The main singer looks like Joseph from the Bible story about the colorful robe and his jealous brothers that sold him into slavery. His head, facial hair looks very Jewish. And the song has a Jewish vibe to it.

General Comment:Its not about drunk driving, its about letting go of one's faith that god is in control of your life and will show you the way and instead taking your life into your own hands and making it your own. It uses wine and being intoxicated as a METAPHOR for that, as shown in "would i choose water over wine" and "but lately im beginning to find that i should be the one behind the wheel." In Christianity, wine represents the blood of christ, and theoretically when one is intoxicated, they are not in control. So the choosing water over wine represents choosing to be your own person rather than just having blind faith in religion. This is also represented in the opening lyrics about uncertainty, referring to the uncertainty of what happens after death and the fear of what it might be, causing one to turn to religion and god out of fear of the possible outcome. Also represented in the lyrics about being one of the hive, as the majority of the planet does subscribe to some form of religion. So yeah, that's whats up. Great song.

General Comment:So for me this song is basically about moving forward, not worrying about the present or anything--just being positive and ready for whatever is to come.

Song Meaning:I don't know why were trying to make out a deep meaning. Im pretty sure it's all a reference to drunk driving.
"Would you choose water over wine...
    Hold the wheel and drive?"
Would you be responsible and drive sober

When he says stuff like being one of the hive he's talking about falling to peer pressure and drinking and driving.

When he refers to fear taking the wheel he's basically saying a drunk driver is fear.
