Methany...I couldn't have said that better myself...I know what it's like to have panic disorder and until I started getting into Green Day I thought I was the only damn one...Yes indeed this is another song about being Spun...but I think in more than 1 aspect.It could be while your high and being paranoid,or the AFTERMATH of quitting the use of Meth...Iv'e experienced both,believe me.

how can someone NOT love Green Day?? OK I'm not stupid I know that there are other styles of music...but i mean...I'M LIVING ON MY LITTLE GREEN DAY PLANET and each time someone tells me about a song they heard and make me listen to it i always say something or like (if it's not punk-rock-or-anything): "IT SUCKS..." or (if it's any of the above): it's nice but it's just...NOT GREEN DAY!!!

yeah...their old CDs are better but A.I. isn't THAT bad either...i like it...but i still feel like jesusofsuburbia102...i too have my own little Green Day planet...and just cause i like A.I. doesn't mean i became fan only with A.I. (the song)...actually my fave song is "Walking Contradiction" (even if it's difficult to tell which one i prefer...i also like Basket Case and Longview, and (well if i named them all we'd still be there next week...)

anyways, i love Basket Case (et al. )!!!

I think Green Day is the only closest thing to authentic punk these days. I'm sorry but I can't stand to see most bands on networks like MTV and VH1 that act like their "punk." Their PUKE not punk. MY opinion of true punk is three chords, the truth, and independence. By the way I'm not punk but I sure as hell like the Ramones and Green Day. Anyhoo this song is a classic.

basket case is indeed about panic disorder..I can totally relate to all the lyrics..in a way, at least.

as for the green day punk rock/alternative argument: here's the best description of their music I've heard "green day is the punk side of alternative" from the book "this is the sound" based on alternative music, highlighting some of the best alternative bands. if you think about it, in a way, punk rock IS alternative rock.

al·ter·na·tive - adj. - Existing outside traditional or established institutions or systems: an alternative lifestyle.

in other words, alternative=different. punk rock isn't traditional, therefore making it different, therefore making it an alternative type of music. however, it became so popular that it became a genre all it's own.

also, the way punk rock was described in the novel "fat kid rules the world" (a very very good book, by the way) was that punk rock is that moment of being a slob, being unclean, just being true and yourself.

green day could easily fit into both of these catagories, but I'm not here to catagorize bands, just comment on their music.
