Lyrics for Basket Case as interpreted by kevin

Basket Case Lyrics
Do you have the time to listen to me whine
About nothing and everything all at once
I am one of those
Melodramatic fools
Neurotic to the bone
No doubt about it

Sometimes I give myself the creeps
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I'm cracking up
Am I just paranoid ?
I'm just stoned

I went to a shrink
To analyze my dreams
She says it's lack of sex that's bringing me down
I went to a whore
He said my life's a bore
And quit my whining cause it's bringing her down

Grasping to control
So you better hold on

just like toxicity said, billie joe wrote it about when he got panic attacks, and didnt know what they were, and he thought he was going insane.

this song kicks a$$ both times i have seen them live they played this song right after giving the guitarist in their made up band the guitar. and green day are punk and so are sex pistols but its the same as iron maiden, slayer and linkin park are all metal bands its just that punk has evolved and like a tree it has different branches

lol well done colourmepunk182- thou hast learnt ye amazing functions: copy&paste wow that must have taken you ages to come up with such insightful comments. i can just imagine you: "wow that's a good idea, wish i'd thought of it.......*now* i have!"
oh and Greenday are a little rock a little punk and a little pop as well, what's wrong with that? you'd be so bored if they were rigid and never changed their style- change is good. Oh and don't contest my use of the word pop, as in -ular...no-one can deny that Green Day are nothing if not popular, just ask their millions of fans worldwide. That is also good- at least they're being recognised for their talent. Jimmy Eat World are still better though :P

i think when i come around is better but still this is an amazing song that i dont think anyone can seriously say isnt a great song, no matter what music they like. I think there way punk. If the Ramones or Sex Pistols and all them were around at this time they'd sound like this too so you cant say there not punk. too bad after this they released time of your life and there whole career went downhill but hehe...they'll always be remembered for there Dookie days.

I'm still sticking to my being spun theory. Speaking from experience, you get panic attacks and don't know what the hell is going on. It can be kinda scary. And I know lots of people who, after experiencing these things for themselves, have also come to the realization that what Billy Joe talks about (in a lot of his songs) is being high. . . no matter what the interviews say or don't say. It's not like he can come out and say, "Yeah, I was all doped out this one time and I got really paranoid. . ."

i think it might be 2 dif things. think which ever way you want.

1.it does that becasue of the panic attacks. being delirious and such cause confusion. so mixing them up would be one way to look at it.

2. or more simply the shrink is a woman. she sasys its lack of sex. he goes to a male whore. then the shrink tells him to stop whining. hence she.

whichever way you want to look at it

a play on words maybe. i went to a shrink, to analyze my dreams, SHE said its lack od sex thats bringing me down. so i went to a whore, HE said my lifes a bore, so quit my whining cos its binging her down. its like hes gone to see a shrink, but it was really a whore, and the whore told him he needed sex, so he went to a whore, but it was really a shrink, etc, etc

I love this song. Green Day are fantastic. No one can beat this song, not even the 70s punks. And I do love classic punk.

Okay Boys & Girls, let's just end this whole thing . . . BUT FIRST:
This song's awesome and just captures Green Day & Billie Joe. It's about his panic attacks, and it was written before he really knew what they were. He just thought he was going crazy because it was wierd and nobody he knew really had the same issues he was w/ these attacks.

Now . . . Green Day IS Punk. They started out punk and pushed punk, BUT w/ knowledge about the way pop and rock goes, things that are "cool" suddenly become pop. Kurt Cobain & all of Seattle --> Grunge; BUT once MTV and people notice that, they copy it and f*ck w/ it, making it pop.
A lot of Green Day's newer things would fall under some kind of Rock, but its still w/ a lot of punk behind it. Punk ain't dead, people have just noticed it & f*cked w/ what it really is.

Green Day's punk, as punk as the classic punk is. Rock On

you're all fucking nuts, but i only read about 10 of them..green day is NOT punk(by the book). for those of you assholes who talk out there ass(with no knowledge but this song's lyrics[yeah there's a few of you]) here's the story of greenday. 2 buddies(mike and billy) meet in school. they start a band and join a punk rock underground(that's right.. A PUNK FUCKING ROCK UNDERGROUND, ASSHOLE IDIOTS!). there they meet a drummer named tre(i think, whatever)... there all stoners so they form a band.. ok they tour america.. they sell 35,000 albums on there own(huge accomplishment when you're indipendant).. they impress alot of record labels and they pick one to sign too. hence they SOLD THE FUCK OUT. it's your decision whether there punk or not.. if you're a punk rock underground man, they aren't.. there rats that sold the fuck out. if your anyone else you may think different or the same. i hate to shoot you all down but what the fuck, i'm right.. hahahah.. on and by the way, even though they sold out, there music STILL STICKS VERY VERY VERY(well fuck that, they stick just like they did before they signed onto a major label) close to their punk rock roots. sorry assholes, home boy's right. eat it assholes.

Green Day is punk. They played with Blink 182. They are just as punk as Offspring. A founding father, like someone said. But anyways, this is where it all started for me. Growing up I never listened to a lot of music, just the Beatles cuz that's what my uncle listened to. But one day I saw Basic Case's video on MTV, and it just clicked. I was 14. I got their CD, and listened to it nonstop, and green day became my favorite band. But I didn't realize what punk was, I just new I liked it. Then I heard What's my Age again by Blink 182 on one of the new cd's. I went out, as a gamble, bought the cd, and loved it. Blink 182 became my new favorite band, and I saw them in concert. By Blink 182, I learned the kind of music that I like is punk. Then one day when I was in Walmart I saw this cd and liked the cover. I listened to the clips and really liked the songs. At the same time I saw another cd that had a cool cover, and liked the clips as well. The 1st cd was New Found Glory's self titled album. And the other one was Sum 41's all killa no filla. I didn't know which one to get, so I got the one with a picture of a Storm Trooper's leg on it. New Found Glory soon became my favorite band. I, not to long after, went and got the Sum 41 cd. I always say that I like NFG the most, but Sum 41 comes in a very, very, very close 2nd. I saw Sum 41 twice, and I'm going to see NFG in two weeks; I've been waiting to see them forever. But now I'm totally taken in my punk rock, and now emo. I live Relient K, they are right up there with the rest. If you haven't heard of them, check them out. They went to my highschool, and are makeing a serious name for themselves. (they're on this website in fact.) But yeah, I still live Green Day. And Blink 182 is still great. But that's my story behind this song, and that's what it means to me.

id just like to say, ZPS2, you have the whole story wrong. but it does seem to be a bit small to go and correct, but id just like to say if you've got that wrong, as greenday did release an album even b4 they met tre, yuor whole life is probably wrong so shut up and stop being so fucking big headed you ass hole.
greenday practically invented punk, well, they re-introduced it when it was dead lets just say.

X peace X

ok, to add to the punk war they are "punk", and just so you know, yall are all gay, punk is a lifestyle, is is a person, niot a catagorey. and just so ya know it is when you do something that you are told not to, not to be rebeliious, but just because that is who you are, you need to be yourself, and being punk is doing it when ppl support you or dont, so in other words, it is not a music genre. thank you

"The only way I knew how to deal with it was to write a song about it" - Billie Joe

"It" meaning his panic disorders...
