sorry, i can't stop commenting on this song!!!! it's my favorite song ever and it's sooo fun to play!!! (i play bass.) and it's about being so bored that you just sit at home masturbating... but even that begins to get boring after a while...

I think it is a depressing, thought maybe not entirely serious, song about being so bored/lazy/unmotivated all you do is masturbate... and as the third verse implies, even that won't be worthwhile soon.

distorted silence - yeah, he didn't grow up well I wouldn't doubt a rumor that his mom had a less than norm job like that.

Uh, this song is just awesome because who else can sing just about being so bored it's driving you crazy? This song is perfect - the only song about being lazy and being bored and not wanting to do anything about being bored because you're too lazy. I love how slow it is, then is gets fast, slow, fast...kinda like how I am when I'm bored. You find something to do, you get all energized, then you're bored again. And when Mike screams, "Whatyouwill!" I think is cool because....yeah, they're so innocent and stupid in this song. A really good bass song.

The whole song is summed up in this line: "When masturbation has lost its fun, you're fucking broken".

Song is not about jacking off. It's about losing your will, losing your motivation, probably due to freebasing speed.

This verse is not in the lyrics above:

"I got no motivation
Where is my motivation
No time for motivation
Smoking my inspiration"

Smoking speed (meth -- a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, means more dopamine, more "reward" for doing stuff).

Inspired by smoke from his freebase, he masturbates, orgasm, on top of major dopamine overload is "the paradise" he's talking about.

But, he doesn't do it by his own will, it has control of him, locking him in his house, velcro'd to the his seat.

And, he's near the end... When you don't get any reward from jacking off... you're fucking breaking... nothing gives him inspiration anymore.

People do things because there is a reward for it.

This guy, though, overloaded, smoked out, lost motiviation, nothing is fun to him, not even jacking off...

Think about what you do during the day, and why you do it. You're just a rat, pressing a bar for a taste of sugar water. You do this day, after day, after day.

this is a cool song. i was bored so i looked up the lyrics to a song about being bored. this came 2 mind first, but i'm not masturbating... i guess it could be about drugs. the bridge does have 2 do with speed.

my absolute favourite by green day. it's just completely awesome- mike's bass line, the chorus guitar, it's unlike any of their other songs.. definitely in the top ten of my all time favourites. and yes, the song is a little touchy.... meh. billie joe's just telling the reality of what people really do when they're bored and home alone....hmm

To what "zealotbleeds" said: To many people, yes, Green Day IS the best band ever. Everyone has different opinions. There is no definitive "best band" because everyone has their own views and likes. Whoever you may think is the best band ever in your opinion isn't the same as other people's.

Also, I think it's just amazing how Green Day and their songs in general are all just different emotions, but they put those emotions so perfectly into songs. Almost any emotion you've had or had, there's a Green Day song for it; I can guarantee you.

comes awfully close to being their best song (pipped by basket case in my opinion) though one must wonder how big this song would be without the line "when mastubation's lost it's fun you're fuckin' lonely" (yes those are the words - the album says breaking but i assure you it's lonely. look around some lyric sites, listen a few times, you too will notice it. plus i seen em live, they kicked ass, and 30000 people screamed that line)
