honestly, i don't think the song's supposed to have a "deep meaning" or anything...some people here said that the bite my lip and close my eyes part could be about him praying he could get out of there...but honestly,i doubt it. i mean, i think the song is just about a regular teenage kid whose stuck in the house masturbating. that's it, noothing more. maybe he's just got nothing better to do?

but you can really tell he's thinking of something sort of sexual, because it says "bite my lip and close my eyes" and also "i'm feeling like a dog in heat" Besides"some say quit or i'll go blind" refers to the old wives tale that if you masturbate too much you'llg o blind...
but green day rocks and always will, so yeah...

i love this song too and all other greenday songs and yeh shiro i hear the voice too lol like someone shoutin or sumthin neway this song-the meaning for me has all ready been mentioned and discussed but its fun postin neway, right? as a teenager, especially one with no motivation for nething, like myself, i can really rrelate to this song. you cant stand nething, including yourself, but ur too lazy to do nething about it. greenday rule.

This is probably my all time fav Green Day song...but i have a story to go with it (no, its not about masturbation XD). the other day, i was crankin this song really loud, and my sister (who\'s a GD \"fan\" based solely on the stuff off American Idiot they play on the radio) comes in and is like \"what is this crap? that sounds like Green Day, but it sucks\" needless to say, i went off on her about her lack of music appreciation and how much of a damn poser she is...i actually felt better afterwards...lol

haha nice story I know people like that too. They think AI is their first album. Well i wasnt even born when they released sosh but when they played basket case ( i think i was like 4 yrs old or something) I cant remember who sang it since I cant remember anything when I was young...... but I really liked it.. later I found out it was them and I also found out I knw a lot of their songs.........ok whatever,.......

and yes! at least Im not paranoid since \"anotherwannabpunk\" hears the screaming kid or smthng too :)

regarding the screaming...i forget where i learned this, but the part after "call me pathetic, call me what you will" is Mike or Tre screaming "Screw you!", the same with the part at the end, but whoever it is is screaming "Sue!", suggesting either yelling out a girl's name while pulling it, or suggesting a lawsuit...who knows! hahaha

In my class they are more of a rap pop thing .......i dont think they even know green day and if they did theyd think AI was their first album.... but Im ok with that. mind them

And another thing that bothers me is when I tell them I like to listen to green day or any BAND they think is tomboy or tooo boyish.......ah well

There are a lot of metal fans in my school so when they were all talking about green day so much like 2 or 3 years ago, I just assumed they were another slipknot kinda thing....n slipknot freaks me out...so i kept my distance from Green Day until I heard Boulevard of Broken Dreams and liked it. Eventually I worked up the courage to listen to their older stuff.
Holiday is my favorite on American Idiot.......but they have so many albums and so much to listen to. I finally got Dookie and plan to get each Green Day album periodically as I see it. And by the way, does anyone here know what the fourth single from "American Idiot" will be?

This is my favouritest Green Day song ever. Such a great bass line. Mike thought it up when he was high then forgot it the next day. What amazing artists. Love it.

My dad's been in bands for 20 years, and this was the first Green Day tune he ever learned, he loves the bass line (he plays bass). My earliest memory (or one of them) is my dad playing this, when I was TWO. 1994 - I was 2.... I'll remember that bass line till I die, I promise you.

This song is just pure musical genius.It describes me when the parents are out; watch TV, channel surfing for a couple of hours, "taking a break", watching the phone and hope someone calls, too lazy & lonely to do anything else, even being so bored just twiddling thumbs, not wanting to move, don't wanna do nothin', and whan parents come home they ask me why I am not working.
Longview should be the Continental anthem of North America, at least for teenagers. I love the stoner bassline. If you listen closely after Billie goes cal me pathetic call me what you will, you can hear a seagull.

P.s: flashspeed 1992, i think its Wake Me UP When September Ends.

An ode to masturbation.
Satirical insight to masturbation; it's causes, and effects. Lack of motivation (evident in the /missing lyrics/), utter boredom ("Twiddle my thumbs just for a bit...), and possibly an exploration of the myth associated with masturbation ("Quit or I'll go blind.")

Longview - a small town somewhere in USA. Simplistic town, a metaphor for a simplistic life, of the subject of this tale.

Missing lyrics:

smoking my inspiration"

re: the little voice after "what you will" echoing that line, is somewhat reminiscent of the Beatles' 'Yellow Submarine', in which a voice echoes the second verse.

Far too many posts in regards to 'this song rocks' 'green day suck' 'how dare you say green day suck' etc etc.

It's a little eery how connected this song is to me once I really, really made the connection with the lyrics to my own life... which also makes it quite cool to be that connected to a Green Day song.
