everyone under the age of 40 i know has heard this song. it has a few drug related meanings like "slipping into paradise" and whoever posted these lyrics left out the

"got no motivation, where is my motivation

a mellow, depressing song written when the band was on acid. the song isn't just about jacking off, thats only part of it. the dude in the song is a bored, depressed burnout who lives in his parents basement. there he smokes weed, masturbates, watches tv, and just wastes time. but nothing interests him, and he's waiting for something good to happen (take me away to paradise)

I agree with all of you (except AND512 of course. It just shows what a dick you are that you not only criticise GD in favour of bands that wouldn't be here if it wasn't for them, and then use homosexuality as an insult, you stupid homophobic shit) This song is about boredom, being trapped and of course masturbation. What's weird though is although it says stuff in the lyrics (the last line before the 3rd chorus) it is definitely NOT whats sung in the song. Whats disturbing is it talks about his mum (tellin him to get a job), and then it sounds like it says "When masturbations lost it fun you're fucking her too" :s It says "breaking" in the lyrics though. Scary!

In the Bay Area, a green day is slang for a day when you just sit around all day smoking weed with your friends, and this song basically sums that up.

Longview is about a town in washington state, which i happen to live in. green day was touring and they played in longview. billie joe armstrong wrote the song in this town, and named it after this town, longview washington. its obviously about being bored.

green day's best song. armstrong sums up the lazy-ass day at home so well - tv, telephone, masturbation and drugs.
and the bass-line is one of the best things this band has done musically i reckon. that, or the breakdown/build up in the middle of 'welcome to paradise'. fuck thats good.

i hate when people say "this band sucks!!" or something like that, especially about a talented band like green day. technically, green day doesnt really suck, cuz they can obviously play instruments probably better than u, AND512, and other people who mock them. maybe in ur own OPINION u dont like the genre of music green day falls into or something, but u dont have to sound like a complete asshole by saying "this song suxx" or something dick-like along those lines. so i'd appreciate it if the douchebags like AND512 would think about what theyre saying before they say it. thanks.
