Only in America we're slaves to be free
Only in America we kill the unborn to make ends meet
Only in America sexuality is democracy
Only in America we stamp our god In God we trust
(chorus)
What is right or wrong
I don't know who to believe in
My soul sings a different song In America
Church bells ringing pass the plate around
The choir is singing as their leader falls to the ground

Please Mr prophet man tell me which way to go
I gave my last dollar, can I still come to your show
(chorus)
I am right and you are wrong
I am right and you are wrong
I am right and you are wrong
No one's right and no one's wrong In America

General Comment:Apparently everyone here is from America, cause only in America we argue over the stupidest shit! What's the meaning of the song you ask? It means that everyone is wrong even if they are right and they're wrong even though they're right! So no one wins any argument and that's what America is about! :P

General Comment:Plus Scott's a raging alcoholic... I am (or was, whatever, thanks AA!) as well, so that seems like more reason for me not to trust him... lol but I often find myself bashing America, despite a lack of effort to do anything about it. Many of the problems mentioned in the song are rampant in this country but the biggest is people like me who go bitch about it on the internet and not actually do anything about it (which seems like it gets beaten into our heads by the GOVERNMENT arrrghalabalalalalalaaaaanarchyraaaaadontreallyknowwhatimsayinghereatthispointsoimshuttingupnowlol)

My Opinion:In line with ChrisOfSpades, I just heard this song for the first time, heard the 6th line and immediately (knowing what Creed is.. a Christian band) had a negative view of it. Caused me to look up the lyrics.. and here I am. The 6th line especially is bigoted (and empirically wrong -- sexuality is primarily genetic). This song just adds to my disdain for most Christians. Religion and other superstitious, unjustified and immoral beliefs in general have got to go.

This song criticizes America for the very things that make it great. It criticizes America for its freedom! How ironic.

Even as an atheist, I'm still a fan of Creed's music. But when it comes to their message and what they stand for, I'm quite against them on moral grounds.

General Comment:I dislike this song. It's very easy to be critical of our country, as if there is a place where the world is wrong. And his assertion that abortion and sexuality are the problems with our country is over looking roots of problems. Besides, the legality of the abortion isn't a bad thing.

General Comment:Going along with money becoming people's god,

Don't you find it interesting that the phrase, "Annuit Coeptis", which means, "Providence has favored our undertakings" is printed on money?

General Comment:You're right, it's not right to deny the religious influence on the lyrics...and I don't do so, I just think that it has no decisive effect on the main content...

    General Comment:my own life,

I agree with you that Creed WAS a band with high moral ideas (until they split up, and now Scott has been arrested for domestic abuse). these ideals are accessible for anyone who thinks for themselves.

But if you want to really understand Creed, to ignore the formative influence of Christianity and the Bible on Scott Stapp and his lyrics is just silly and ignorant. It's there, it's simply will you ignore it or not?

General Comment:what to hell are you writing in here??? creed is a band with high moral ideas, most of the lyrics are against mental slavery, racism and war...maybe they are some kind of religious...but this doesn't disturb me, although I don't believe in that there is a CRISTIAN or a ISLAMIC or a JEWISH god...don't you think it's just one god???

Anyway, I think creed is a band that tries to impart moral guidelines...and I think it's just unsuitable and ridiculous to write SUCH comments under that lyrics!

PS.: I'm from germany (you probably see this because of my mistakes) and I think the problems mentioned in this song don't only exist in america, but also in europe

General Comment:I think the line about dollars ought to read:

"we stamp our gold 'In God we trust.'" "Goal" clearly doesn't make sense; Stapp is referring to money and faith in these verses.

I believe he is saying something like only in America are we so blessed with money, that we begin to think only of money, and forget the God who gave us the blessing. I believe that is what he is saying. The Bible states that "the love of money is a root of many kinds of evil." This is about the vice of greed.

This shames me to want to avoid greed & do what is right.
