To whomever said the song was about God: Normally you cannot be wrong about an interpretation of lyrics, but you are utterly wrong. This song, as almost every emo song ever written, is about a girl. Lyrics are usually not very direct, and even though he never comes out and says it's to a girl, it is implied. A lot of things are usually quite metaphorical, and if you thought that it is about God you do not truly get it. When he says "...the angel above me i long to be with," there is no possible way this can be god for two reasons. Big number one: God is not an angel (at least not in the majority of religions). Two: the song is mostly positive, and if for some reason he was referring to God as an Angel, this means he would be longing to die. He doesn't sound too suicidal to me. Cheers.

I suppose this part of the song (actually, the whole song) would be a part of his mom, not a girl. At the beginning I thought this song was about a girl, but after reading it over and over again I realized it was something bigger.

Awesome lyrics, as always. Rufio is the best band out there.

I do see a good point being made, and in your case your interpretation is valid. Only the guy who wrote it knows what it's really about, and adding to your idea about it I', guessing if it's about his mother, his mother passed away. Contrasting is it seems kind of lovestruck, but that might just be me. Very good interpretation though. :::applaudes:::

This song is about his mom. "The sky it burns bright with your presence tonight." She is in heaven looking down. "The angel above me. " His mom looking down and watching him. Angels are meant to protect people, like a mother. Though this can also be seen as about a girl to those he can't understand metaphors.

I saw Rufio when they did a show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma California. They were the opening band in a tour with Rise Against, Poison The Well, and Strung Out. And the last song they played was Above Me. Clark(the lead guitarist) totally rocked out. I got to talk to Scott Sellers(lead vocals) and I asked him when they're new cd is coming out. He said it'll prolly come out at the end of this year. I emailed him to tell me the titles on their next cd. When I talked to Clark to find out who they're touring with next, he said they'll be headlining for a tour with Brand New and Taking Back Sunday. I can't wait! RUFIO ROX MY SOX! And Above Me is definitely my favorite song of theirs
