Blame it all on my roots
I showed up in boots
And ruined your black tie affair
The last one to know
The last one to show
I was the last one you thought you'd see there
And I saw the surprise
And the fear in his eyes
When I took his glass of champagne
And I toasted you
Said "honey, we may be through"
But you'll never hear me complain

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

Well, I guess I was wrong
I just don't belong
But then, I've been there before
Everything's all right
I'll just say goodnight
And I'll show myself to the door
Hey, I didn't mean
To cause a big scene
Just give me an hour and then
Well, I'll be as high as that ivory tower
That you're livin' in

'Cause I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay
I'm not big on social graces
Think I'll slip on down to the oasis
Oh, I've got friends in low places

I've got friends in low places
Where the whiskey drowns
And the beer chases my blues away
And I'll be okay

I swear this song makes me think of a character in a book series I love.

This character named Dirk Pitt is invited by a very important Rich Man to a party he is hosting because Pitt saved his life. The Rich Man doesn't think he'll come because as far as he knows, Pitt is low-cultured riff-raff who would know better than come to a black tie affair. Little does he know that Pitt is very well regarded in the US government, his father is an important senator, he is very well know and is an honest-to-goodness adventurer and hero.

When Pitt shows up in his tux, the Rich Man is very cruel and dismissive, trying to make Pitt leave. Dirk has had enough, gives a cryptic remark and leaves. The Rich Guy is happy until his guests wonder why THE Dirk Pitt left. Did Rich Guy know he was the one who had raised the wreck of the Titanic a few years ago? And found the Library of Alexandria? And the son of the Senator the Rich Guy was trying to woo? Rich guy goes white. While Pitt did dress up, the Rich Guy treated him like he had worn dirty smelly clothes and boots.
