I am the only one to blame for this
Somehow it all ends up the same
Soaring on the wings of selfish pride
I flew too high and like I charus
I collide

With a world I try so hard
To leave behind
To rid myself of all but love
To give and die

To turn away and not become
Another nail to pierce
The skin of one who loves
More deeply than the ocean
More abundant than the tears
Of a world embracing every heartache

Can I be the one to sacrifice
Or grip the spear and watch
The blood and water flow

[Chorus]
To love you, take my world apart
To need you, I am on my knees
To love you, take my world apart
To need you, broken on my knees

All said and done I stand alone
Amongst the remains of life I should not own
It takes all I am to believe
In the mercy that covers me

Did you really have to die for me?
All I am for all you are
Because what I need
And what I believe
Are worlds apart
And I pray

[Chorus]

On my knees

I look beyond the empty cross
Forgetting what my life has cost
And wipe away the crimson stains
And dull the nails that still remains
More and more I need you now
I owe you more each passing hour
Battle between grace and pride
I gave up not so long ago
So steal my heart and take the pain
Wash the feet and cleanse my pride
Take the selfish, take the weak
And all the things I cannot hide
Take the beauty, take my tears
The sin-soaked heart and make it yours
Take my world all apart
Take it now, take it now
And serve the ones that I despise
Speak the words I can't deny
Watch the world I used to love
Fall to dust and thrown away
I look beyond the empty cross
Forgetting what my life has cost
Wipe away the crimson stains
And dull the nails that still remain
So steal my heart and take my pain
Take the selfish, take the weak
And all the things I cannot hide
Take the beauty, take my tears
Take my world apart, take my world apart
I pray,and I pray, and I pray
Take my world apart
Worlds apart

The weight of the sacrifice of Christ, and the response it demands, is perfectly stated here. Brilliant.

General Comment:this song is literally amazing. i think it basically defines the life of the christian. the pride, the struggle, the fall, the pain, and the realization that it's not about you at all. the song expresses the feelings we all have as we fight to live for god despite our sin nature. it is about the recognition that the only way for us to really trust god is for him to take away everything we depend on. very sobering and definitely gives perspective for when you become focused on yourself instead of on god.

General Comment:this is my absolute favorite song... every single one of us can relate to the feeling of trying to do it on our own, without God, and failing.

"Take my world apart:" God, please remove all the things I could depend on other than you. Prove to me that I can't live without you. And God answers this prayer: "All said and done I stand alone, amongst remains of a life I should not own."

General Comment:I love Jars of Clay, and this is my favorite song. Some people are a little shocked by this, but I don't think that it is quite the admonishment that some people think that it is. To me at least, its about understanding where you are with God, and what it means to your life. We are all in different places in our lives, and therefore our relationshis with Jesus are different. This is a beautiful song about acceptance and belief in a world wrought with doubt:

"All said and done I stand alone
Amongst remains of a life I should not own
It takes all I am to believe
In the mercy that covers me"

General Comment:this song helped during my lowest period of my spiritual life while learning to give up what was worldly to attain what Love was. its always a hard thing to do but its all worthwhile in the end cos nothing, abosultely nothing can ever compare to that Love on the cross and the Love i guess believers would experience every single day just knowing you've been saved by grace.

General Comment:wow this song is amazing. i am not much of a fan of this kind of music, my dad has the album and i have listend to it on road trips with him. but the lyrics are spectacular. my older sister hosts a fellowship group and we sing this song sometimes. i was invited to go so i did and we sang this song and i knew all the words but its sooo different once you accually think about it and sing it.

Soaring on the wings of selfish pride
I flew too high and like Icarus I collide
With a world I tried so hard to leave behind

man, this is like we all are, we try to do everything ourselves and get through life without god, but we are just borken and fall.

I look beyond the empty cross
forgetting what my life has cost
and wipe away the crimson stains
and dull the nails that still remain
More and more I need you now,
I owe you more each passing hour
the battle between grace and pride
I gave up not so long ago
So steal my heart and take the pain
and wash the feet and cleanse my pride
take the selfish, take the weak,
and all the things I cannot hide
take the beauty, take my tears
the sin-soaked heart and make it yours
    take my world all apart
take it now, take it now
and serve the ones that I despise
speak the words I can’t deny
watch the world I used to love
fall to dust and thrown away

wow this part is sooo great as well. so many of us just foreget how much God did for all of us, he is the creator of everything and he died for us! i cant comprehend that. and its amazing because once you start to get back with god you realize your world is turing to dust, nothing matters anymore but god.
this song changed my life, and also just how we try and try but we cant get through life, we just need God so much, it makes me hurt when other people cant see that. god is super

General Comment:I think this song is also about separating ourselves as Christians from the world. In the world but not of it.. sometimes we forget that and we need him to take our worlds apart, as in the two spiritual worlds. hope that's not too deep..
