I hopelessly, helplessly, wonder why
Everything gotta change around me
I'd tell it to your face
But you lost your face along the way
And I'd say it on the phone
If I thought you were alone
Why do things have to change

But you don't need my pictures on your wall
You say you need no one
And you don't need my secret midnight call
I guess you need no one
Is anybody waiting at home for you
'Cause it's time that will tell if it's heaven if it's hell or if it's
Anybody waiting at home for you
'Cause it's time that will tell this tale

You're in and out up and down
Wonder if you're lost or found
But I got my hands on you
Are you strong enough to tow the line
Are you gonna make me yours
Or do I make you mine
I'm in and out I'm up and down
Wonder if I'm lost or found
But I need your hands on me now

But you don't need my pictures on your wall
You say you need no one
And you don't need my secret midnight call
I guess you need no one
Is anybody waiting at home for you
'Cause it's time that will tell if it's heaven if it's hell or if it's
Anybody waiting at home for you
'Cause it's time that will tell this tale

I hopelessly, helplessly, wonder why
Everything gotta change

General Comment:oh and also " Is anybody waiting at home for you" is right, but I think in the very last verse it says "Is anybody waiting at ALL for you"

    nice.

General Comment:I have to say first: I thought the first couple lines were

    i hopelessly, helplessly, wonder why..
    Everything I've changed, around you.

Like he has changed and formed and built his entire world around her and FOR her..and now shes gone and hes left to hopelessly helplessly wonder why?

My Interpretation:I guess this really is my interpretation because this song is SO personal to me. For me, when I hear it, I think of a couple who that is in love. One or both of them had another partner (because of the secret midnight calls and anybody waiting at home). Anyway, their affair comes to an end...maybe not because they want it to, but it has to. Both people are sad, upset, confused (in & out, up or down, lost or found). One of them is being very distant. Maybe they've even moved away or live in another state. That person won't discuss anything and is basically unavailable. He or she is probably distancing himself because it hurts too much to talk to the other one and they both feel like it's a hopeless situation since they are tied up with these other people (their spouses?). When he says "Are you strong enough to tow the line..." that part - it's like he's saying 'ok one of us needs to take a stand if this relationship between us is going to happen at all. is it gonna be you or me that makes it happen?' In the end, he resigns himself to the fact that he will have to wait to see how it all plays out and if anyone's waiting at home (and if so, will the spouses work it out and stay together or will she come back to him?). He feels like he knows the answer - that he can never be with her, his soulmate, his real love, because of complications with his wife, among other major things. So he feels hopeless about the whole thing. In the end, he divorces his wife but so much time has passed that he can't find the other girl, and he ends up killing himself. Okay, I know that's not in the song, but that's basically what happened in my version of events. Unfortunately. Very depressing, I know.

General Comment:It's about a girl who's walled herself off..for whatever reasons it may be..maybe she thinks he's too good for her and he deserves better so she pushing him away..or maybe she's losing interest and doesn't want to drag this out anymore. Whatever the reason he was fighting to keep their relationship intact for a long time.

Now he's coming to grips with reality in the sense that there's nothing he can do and that time is only solution that will tell what her frequent emotional changes are going to reveal..whether she still wants/needs him or not.

In my own experiences, when a girl feels like this, she'll make it clear that you shouldn't wait for her and will do everything to ensure that you move on..because she doesn't want to hurt the good times of the past by wrecking everything by being selfish in the present.

It's scary and dehabilitating when you lose someone you've grown so dependant/attached on. It can leave a hole in yur life where they used to be and probably would take months...maybe years to get over..or sometimes you'll never get over it but you'll get used to it.

    I've been here before.

General Comment:For me it's more of a she keeps herself surrounded by walls to keep herself safe type of situation. Saying she doesn't need anyone.
"Is anybody waiting at home for you?"
In the end she's just going to be alone, with no one to go home to.

General Comment:I'm used to be this guy. the guy who consoles, who is always there while the other man runs out. With my ex, I still stayed and tried to remain her friend even after she started a relationship with the person she cheated on me with. I bailed her out of jail when she had to stab that person to stop them from beating her up. But in the end she always went back to that person.

I wish I could tell her this song. A man, frustrated with being the other guy. Knowing she doesnt need to be treated like this, and yet she pushes him away.

General Comment:He has lost a girl he loves very much, and hes wondering why it had to be like this. So much has changed in his life and he wants to talk to her about it but he cant because she is not the person he once knew. He also doesnt want to tell her because he thinks she is with someone else. She tells him she is better being by herself, that she does not need anyone. He does not believe her because he questions her in the Lyrics- " is anybody waiting at home for you". He says that time will reveal the truth and he will either be very happy or very angry." time will tell if its heaven or hell". Thats what I get out of the First verse and Chorus- will analyze the rest later. D

General Comment:For me this is about a guy who's in love with someone who is in love with someone else.

The lines: "i'd say it on the phone if i thought you were alone." "and you dont need my secret midnight call"

These lines define the song for me. It seems to me that, for lack of a better phrase, she only sees him as a booty call, and he definately wants more from her.
