So you finally 'fessed up to her
All the lies you said
Now you kindly kiss up to her
But the feeling's dead
Several days have passed now
Darker than any damn cloud now
Liquid sunshine falls down
Harder than all the damn hounds
[Chorus]
Trying to give you summer, but I'm winter
Wish I could make you spring, but I fall so hard
So you always did what you wanted
We will be on our own
I will soon let you go now
Things will be alright
Several weeks have passed now
Grayer than any gray cloud
Several weeks have passed now
And it's so hard
[Chorus]
And it's so hard to get out of bed
She's impossible to get out of your head
[Chorus]
All the lies you said
Now you kindly kiss up to her
But the feeling's dead
Several days have passed now
Darker than any damn cloud now
Liquid sunshine falls down
Harder than all the damn hounds
[Chorus]
Trying to give you summer, but I'm winter
Wish I could make you spring, but I fall so hard
So you always did what you wanted
We will be on our own
I will soon let you go now
Things will be alright
Several weeks have passed now
Grayer than any gray cloud
Several weeks have passed now
And it's so hard
[Chorus]
And it's so hard to get out of bed
She's impossible to get out of your head
[Chorus]

He's fucked somewhere along the line in the relationship and is trying to get back with her, as in the first verse, in particular 'Now you kindly kiss up to her / But the feeling's dead'. As hard as he tries, instead of winning her back, all he's doing is pushing her away further. The second half of each verse is him reminiscing and thinking of what a fool he's been and how hard it is without her. Though that's kinda obvious.
Great song regardless, by an extremely underrated band.
To me it seems that Dryden (or whoever he is voicing) admitted to being dishonest but she is not so easily forgiving, 'but the feeling's dead'.
He's aware of his mistakes and is trying his best to make up for them. But she is not ready to give in, and so the time in which she mulls in over is hell for him, 'Several days ... cloud now', 'Several weeks ...
And it’s so hard'.
He always falls short of what he feels will make up for his mistakes, which is summer and spring. He therefore refers to himself as the colder seasons, winter and autumn/fall.
And of course, who hasn't felt this over the one they love? 'And it’s so hard to get out of bed.
She’s impossible to get out of your head'
Its kinda a sad song considering what he's willing to do/change. A lot of people aren't like that.
I also think its funny, that he names all seasons in the chorus
Wish I could make you spring, but I fall so hard"
I think that he wishes he could give her what she wants but no matter how hard he tries, he can't because she wants what he isn't. He knows that he's not the one for her. Does that make sense to you guys? I'm probably all wrong.
