There must be something that we can eat, maybe find another lover
Should I fly to Los Angeles, find my asshole brother
Minnie mouse has grown up a cow, Dave's on sale again
Kissy-kiss in the rearview, we're so bored you're to blame

Try to see it once my way
Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so
Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so

Raindogs howl for the century, a million dollars a steak
as you search for your demi-god, and you fake with a saint

There's no sex in your violence, there's no sex in your violence
There's no sex in your violence, there's no sex in your violence

Try to see it once my way
Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so

Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so

Everything's zen, everything's zen

I don't believe that Elvis is dead, yeah
I don't believe that Elvis is dead

I don't believe that Elvis is dead, yeah
I don't believe that Elvis is, Elvis is

There's no sex in your violence, there's no sex in your violence

There's no sex in your violence, There's no sex in your vi-----olence

Try to see it once my way
Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so

Try to see it once my way
Everything's zen, everything's zen, I don't think so

Zen
Zen

Well I don't think so, no I don't think so

Well I don't think so

Zen

General Comment:It's a song about feeling somewhat unfulfilled as your told something outside yourself will make you happy, yet never does. Fleeting happiness. And it's boredom with the ego, drives and ambition for more. Sex, Food, theme parks, whatever...that maybe there is something more beyond this illusion. Everything Zen, I don't think so. etc
He's not saying don't eat a burger or be a nun.
It's just that there has to be something more then being an animal looking for power caught in some fight or flight nightmare of always needing more things and stuff or pussy.

My Interpretation:I think this isn't so much a stab at our culture as it is an appeal to ask people to see what's really goin on. Hence "try to see it once my way". Everything zen, I don't think so. I think that line is saying that we continue to go about our lives pretending everything is ok when it's not. There's no sex in your violence, I see where rage.love was coming from with no boobs on American tv but plenty of blood but I think that misses the point. I think what he was trying to say was there is nothing attractive, nothing to really be desired in the violence of this culture.

The demi-god thing, well I don't know anything about Gavin's religious views, but here's my perception of what he said. If anyone doesn't know, a demigod is a "god" coming from one human parent and one parent that's a god. And obvious stab at Christianity in my opinion. I think the point of it was that in our culture we try to justify so many things in the name of a god that we don't have any real evidence to their existence. "You fake with a saint". We claim to be so good and pure with the holier than thou mentality. Religion, especially modern religion and how it is interpreted and followed is a sham. The pope, priests, preachers etc, are "saints" in our eyes. Yet they are blindly following grossly outdated values and a dogma full of contradictions. I didn't come here for a religious debate and I don't know Gavin's religious beliefs, but this makes perfect sense with the rest of the song and I tend to agree.

My Opinion:Ah, Gavin Rosdale. He's like Kurt Cobain, only hot!

And while Kurt may have thought he was smart referencing Buddhism in his band's name, he didn't realize Gavin could easily copy him with the title of his first single.

This song is in every way an overly self-conscious mimmic of the Cobain approach:

    - disjointed, non-linear, veiled meaning

    - expression of boredom, anger, angst, and antiestablishment views

    - excessive repetition

    - Quirky phrases

You really have to either turn it off or throw up by the time this asshole starts repeating, "I don't believe that Elvis is dead."

"Another quirky, cliched phrase," indeed. Fuck Gavin. No doubt, he killed Kurt Cobain with this bush league garbage.

My Interpretation:The song's about the society America was becoming at the time, and how it was brainwashing people false hope, when they don't think it's for the better, but for the worse.

General Comment:I find it interesting to read these comments from the past. I would guess this site started back in 2002,
So those early comments are now 8 years old. To see the progression as the years go by. up to February of 2010. I think of this post as a message in a bottle. 1) will anyone read it? and 2) when ? a month from now ? and year from now ? Will people still be listening to Bush ? Or will they fade like many of the bands of the past. Only time will tell.

General Comment:I know I love this song to death. I have absolutely know idea what it means but I've been dying to know, and I had no idea that gavin was saying "try to see it once my way". I always thought he was saying "trust me once, my wife." And I still don't know what "there's no sex in your violence" means. To me it seems to imply some kind of rape idea, which is really not cool, and if that is it then FUCK YOU, GAVIN! YOU HEARTLESS, HELL-BOUND MOTHERFUCKER! CUZ RAPE'S NOT FUNNY YOU STUPID LONDON ASSHOLE!!! Anyway, the song does have one hell of an awesome grungy sound, and "Machinehead" is also another really good song.
