So this has been.my favorite song of OTEP's since it came out in 2004, and I always thought it was a song about a child's narrative of suffering in an abusive Christian home. But now that I am revisiting the lyrics, I am seeing something totally new.
This song could be gospel of John but from the perspective of Jesus.
Jesus was NOT having a good time up to and during the crucifixion. Everyone in the known world at the time looked to him with fear, admiration or disgust and he was constantly being asked questions. He spoke in "verses, prophesies and curses". He had made an enemy of the state, and believed the world was increasingly wicked and fallen from grace, or that he was in the "mouth of madness".
The spine of atlas is the structure that allows the titan to hold the world up. Jesus challenged the state and in doing so became a celebrated resistance figure. It also made him public enemy #1.
All of this happened simply because he was doing his thing, not because of any agenda he had or strategy.
And then he gets scourged (storm of thorns)
There are some plot holes here but I think it's an interesting interpretation.
After all the jacks are in their boxes
and the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
footprints dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary
A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries Mary
The traffic lights, they turn, uh, blue tomorrow
and shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags down stream
'cause the life that lived is,
is dead
And the wind screams Mary
Uh-will the wind ever remember
the names it has blown in the past?
And with this crutch, its old age, and its wisdom
it whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary
and the clowns have all gone to bed
You can hear happiness staggering on down the street
footprints dressed in red
And the wind whispers Mary
A broom is drearily sweeping
up the broken pieces of yesterdays life
Somewhere a queen is weeping
Somewhere a king has no wife
And the wind, it cries Mary
The traffic lights, they turn, uh, blue tomorrow
and shine their emptiness down on my bed
The tiny island sags down stream
'cause the life that lived is,
is dead
And the wind screams Mary
Uh-will the wind ever remember
the names it has blown in the past?
And with this crutch, its old age, and its wisdom
it whispers no, this will be the last
And the wind cries Mary

Warren wanted a Beach Boys thing for this one, and Carl Wilson and Billy Hinsche came in, with Carl arranging the vocal parts. The other harmony vocalists (credited as the "Gentlemen Boys") were Jackson Browne, J.D. Souther, Zevon's longtime backers Waddy Wachtel and Jorge Calderon, and Linda Rondstadt/Stone Poneys guitarist Kenny Edwards.
Fortnight
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.
Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday".
I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
What do we make of that wise old crutched wind saying that this will be the last name that it will blow?
The song is of the silence and emptiness of the end, and from his aloneness, he sees the sorrow of the queen and the emptiness of the royal among men.
@mmcdonald mary the song was written when I was in Junior College (1965-66), we called all <br /> males jack, not dude, or guy. After all the jacks are in there boxes, coffins. <br /> The ones that commited the crime. - The clowns have gone to bed. The case is closed. <br /> The bribes were made and taken. The corrupt cops have washed there hands. -<br /> Happiness staggering on down the street. The drunks bragging about what they did. <br /> Delirious intoxicated after the crime. - Footprints dressed in red. Under age her, <br /> being abandoned covered in blood walks to find help, then collapses and dies.<br /> <br /> And the wind whispers Mary, should read Marry.<br /> <br /> A broom (groom) is drearily sweeping. Up the broken pieces of yesterday's life. The <br /> cold case resolution. There case began today 17 March 2020. - Somewhere a queen is <br /> weeping Somewhere a king has no wife. The one who wrote the song in 1966 about the <br /> crime that what happened in 2010. Weeping is now amended to "Somewhere a queen is <br /> waiting." Some times thing change for the better.<br /> <br /> And the wind, it cries Marry<br /> <br /> The traffic lights they turn a blue tomorrow. And shine their emptiness down on my bed.<br /> Becomming a pilot and the taxi way lights are blue, and still without a wife. - The<br /> tiny island sags downstream 'Cause the life that they lived is dead. Live on planet <br /> earth, where she was assaulted, yielded no birth.<br /> <br /> And the wind, it screams Marry<br /> <br /> Will the wind ever remember? The names it has blown in the past. Her soul, as a strong<br /> wind, waiting for justice and her time to speak. Its old age, from the time I was <br /> alone and heard the wind in 1966, inspiring the the song to be written, until a few <br /> weeks ago that a strong wind blew over my house, in the air that time is near. And with <br /> its crutch, its old age and its wisdom - As she struggles onward, with no one to hear <br /> except the wind, she asks it to blow stonger so as a branch would fall and she could <br /> use it as a crutch to travel a little futher to find help. It whispers "no, this will <br /> be the last"<br /> <br /> I answered because so many asked, and who else would put music to such a song. <br /> Thanks my friend, Jimi<br />
