Lyrics for If You Leave Me Now as interpreted by Demau Senae

If You Leave Me Now Lyrics
If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please don't go
If you leave me now, you'll take away the very heart of me
No baby please don't go

A love like ours is love that's hard to find
How could we let it slip away
We've come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes we'll both regret
Things we said today

A love like ours is love that's hard to find
How could we let it slip away
We've come too far to leave it all behind
How could we end it all this way
When tomorrow comes we'll both regret
Things we said today

If you leave me now, you'll take away the biggest part of me
No baby please don't go
Oh girl, just got to have you by my side

No baby, please don't go

Oh mama, I just got to have your lovin, yeah

We've come too far to leave it all behind

If this song isn't ever depressing...especially after you go through a breakup! I dub the Chicago "Heart of Chicago" album an official "Breakup" album!!! I love this song...it's great.

I agree with all three who have posted comments before me. Everyone I know calls me a dork for listening to sappy '70's-'80's era love ballads (and not just for their camp value) but you know, in an age where most everyone's a cynic, the honesty and emotion in the lyrics is definitely welcomed. Glad to know I'm not the only one who likes this song for something other than its '*wink, wink*, tongue planted firmly in cheek' value. Just gorgeous, that's what this song is.

Ooooh! I LOVE this song!!!!!!! I agree with all of you. It's one of the ultimate breakup songs. The song now reminds me of my ex-girlfriend. One time we heard it on the radio and she sang along. I told her, I didn't know that she knew this song and se told me that she loved it. Since than I thought: "If we where ever to breakup, I would make her a CD, with all of our songs and this one would defiantly be on.” And so we broke up a couple of years later and I made her the CD and this song was on. It explains some the emotions you go thru, during a breakup, like no other song I can think of. I will love this song to the day I die!

This song represents the second phase of Chicago, where Peter Ceteral used the band as a vehicle to launch his solo career and the band members were replaced with a bunch of people from Toto.

Regardless, I still like the song. Cetera wrote this about his wife, who wanted to divorce him.

A Grammy winning song for good reason. This song is one of the bands 3 #1 hits! and this one was a worldwide hit as well! One of the most beautiful ballads ever written, played, and sung. A true hit!

Fluffy is right about this song marking an end of one era and the beginning of another. IYLMN was on Chicago X and was almost left off completely, cause most of the band hated it. Producer James Guercio sided with Cetera and the song was included. It turned out to be their first #1 single on the Top 40 pop chart. This song, along with Terry Kath's accidental shooting death and changing tastes in the music scene ended Chicago's era of making "cutting edge" tunes. After Kath's death in 1978, the band began on a downward spiral until 1982, when they released 16, which had Hard to Say I'm Sorry...their second original sound, I understand why the band went the direction they did. If Chicago had tried to put out albums like their first six or seven, they would have been out of jobs a long time ago. Frankly, there's some good music from their 80's era, but nothing can compare to the stuff before Kath died. People tend to forget Terry, which is sad, because his contribution to Chicago cannot be overplayed. His abilities with the guitar were divinely inspired, and his voice had the soulfulness of Ray Charles. He has been overshadowed by Peter Cetera, and the band for that matter, too. And that is not a slam at ol' Pete. I have always enjoyed his music and before he stopped playing, he could handle a bass quite well. But his music that he wrote with David Foster on 16 and 17 have blurred the music that came before it. People tend to forget there was another Chicago before your girlfriend's Chicago came out. It didn't rock, but it can help you get laid!

This song is incredibly painful for me to listen to...my partner and I first went out 10 years ago, and I knew after 5 weeks that we were going to break up when I was making her dinner and this came on MTV...I haven't been able to hear it for years without thinking of that...

...on the plus side, we got back together last year and we're getting married next year. So now I can listen to it (though I prefer not to)...

That's why this song became so much of a hit.. 3 things in life that is guarantee; Death, Taxes, and a broken heart.. It's why so many sappy songs are great.. Thanks for improving my feelings for this overplayed little gem from a once cutting edge terrific and kind of scary wonderful band of the seventies.
