Move closer, set my mind on fire
Taking over
The world seems so alive
The world seems so alive

She slips into the night, and she is gone
Gone to set the score, gone into the town
Rain shining in her eyes
Her Brother started school

Again today
A thought to pass the time,
To occupy my mind
While I'm waiting for her

Down in the basement
Listening to the rain
Thinking things over
I think it over again

Think it over again
She slipped into the night, and she is gone
Gone to set the score, gone into the town
Rain shining in her eyes

Her Brother started school
Again today
A thought to pass the time,
To occupy my mind

While I'm waiting for her
I'm riding it down
Listening to the rain
She'll be here soon

I lie back and drift away
I lie back and drift away
She slipped into the night, and she is gone
Gone to set the score, gone into the town

Rain shining in her eyes
Her Brother started school
Again today
A thought to pass the time,

To occupy my mind
While I'm waiting for her
I'm feeling so alive
Feeling so real

On this stormy night
The rain is coming down
Rain like never before
I've got some records on

And some bottles of wine
On this stormy night
The rain is lashing down
And I'm waiting for her

General Comment:I'd say it definitely has to do with drugs, though I am unsure if "she" is his hook-up or the drugs themselves: I'd assume it's the former.

The thing I love about this song is that it has a melancholy tone that is juxtaposed against lines such as "I'm feeling so alive, feeling so real" which truly paints a picture of anticipation and hope.

General Comment:This song is so obviously about sex. A chick that the narrator's doing, who he thinks about a lot and likes to distract himself by thinking about her brother. He was like, 15 when he wrote it; what else would it be about?

General Comment:I think its about someone who cant 'get' that theyve been dumped. They are sat there forever, waiting for her to call back or come over to get back together, but that never happened, and all he can do is think about her, and anything related to her

General Comment:I'm not sure about the meaning of this song, but it's certain that everything said here about it so far is total bullshite.

General Comment:definitely my favourite ash song, too, and they are one of my all-time favourite bands who have been around for years in my life. the song always reminds me of going out when i was about 13 or 14, when i just went shopping or to see a movie with some friends but that alone was really exciting. "she slips into the night" ... a mysterious world for me to explore on my own...i know it's not what the song is about, but i still associate it with that feeling

General Comment:I'm pretty certain I once read somewhere that this is about waiting for a drug dealer.

General Comment:Okay, this is "out there" but here it goes:

I think this song is about a guy who tells his girlfriend about a rumour/story being spread about her brother. It sounds like he was taken out of school (or kicked out) ("Her brother started school, Again today, a thought to pass the time"). Maybe he was picked on. Once she hears this, she leaves him to go exact her "revenge" or "settle the score" with the person(s) that did this.

The rest of the song is the guy sitting by himself and waiting for her to get back (the tenses shifts from "She slips into the night, and she is gone" to "She slips into the night, and she was gone").

Also as he waits, he wonders whether it was a good thing to tell her at all ("Down in the basement, listening to the rain, Thinking things over. I think it over again").
