Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill, everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice just one more time
Some will win, some will lose, some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends, it goes on and on and on and on
Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling
Streetlight people
She took the midnight train going anywhere
Just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit
He took the midnight train going anywhere
A singer in a smoky room
The smell of wine and cheap perfume
For a smile they can share the night
It goes on and on and on and on
Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard
Their shadows searching in the night
Streetlight people, living just to find emotion
Hiding somewhere in the night
Working hard to get my fill, everybody wants a thrill
Paying anything to roll the dice just one more time
Some will win, some will lose, some were born to sing the blues
Oh the movie never ends, it goes on and on and on and on
Don't stop believing
Hold on to that feeling
Streetlight people

Recently, my friend made me watch the bollywood film Bunty aur Babli. This song fits it so well! The boy, Rakesh, and the girl, Vimmi, both leave their small Indian villages in desperation and board a train, where they run into each other and become partners in crime. It's a fun, sweet movie, and now this song will always remind me of it!
What kind of girl would take a midnight train going anywhere? Everyone runs for the last train home. To go home. She's going anywhere on the midnight train which isn't home.
She isn't stupid. What drives her to seek out happiness in the middle of the night?
Sheer loneliness.
Deep Depression.
Void like Emptiness.
It takes a lot for a guy to do the same thing but for a girl to, means she must be at the end of her tether.
Will the night end in fulfillment? 0.0000008 % chance.
But this night she met a guy feeling the same way, taking the same chance, at exactly the same time.
"Strangers waiting up and down the boulevard" This shows she should heed caution. Going out on whimsical bouts alone has its dangers.
I would like to think that they became lovers, each holding the missing piece in the others puzzle. The search was over. Time for that well deserved happiness now.
But. Lets get real!
Women tend to make silly judgments when they are either very drunk, depressed, or deprived. From the action of getting on a train and not asking why at midnight suggests she may feel a combination of them.
Its most likely they met in a bar, night ended in a shag and a thrill. Did they see each other again? Who knows. Would this replenish the void inside? I think not.
However don't stop believing.
would be the boy raised in the city
Of my least favorite songs, this one WINS. FUCK this overplayed, watered down SHIT.
I was supposed to graduate from college in May 2011, and I couldn't because I had to repeat my 90 hours for teaching. I knew God had a plan for me for some reason although I didn't know what. I ended up student teaching at the school attached to my Church. I could not have asked for a better experience. I honestly could not or would not have asked for a better sign from God that I have a bright future in this field.
Never give up on yourself or your dreams, keep going and NEVER stop believing.
Anyone who says this song sucks is viewing music as a technical art form as opposed to simply expressing and connecting emotions audibly.
This song sounds more seventies than eighties imo.
The rest is filled with methaphors of the arduous journey, and seemingly hopeless search. It may seem like a lost cause at times, but like the title of the song says, "Don't stop believin'".
Me? crying as I type this? Nooo. Just might suffer a heart attack though.
Steve Perry was replaced, huge shoes to fill but they did it. I hope Steve is happy and I truly admire this band for remaining true to their sound; Believing, holding out, having faith, and ultimately finding the one. The stars could not have lined up any straighter.
