He spent 15 years
Getting loaded for 15 years
Till his liver exploded
Now what's Bob gonna do
Now that he can't drink?
The Doctor said: "What ya been thinking bout?"
Bob said, "that's the point. I won't think bout nothing.
Now I gotta do something else

To pass the time
Had someone shave his head
He got a new identity
62 hole air cushioned boots
And a girl who rides a scooter
To take him out of town
They would get away
Running around
And as the trucks drive by
You can hear the mother fuckers go "PUNK!"

A couple of lines, an extra thermos of Joe
He'll be kicking in heads at the punk rock show
Bob's the kinda guy who knows just what
Bob's the kinda guy who knows just what to do
When the doctor tells him to
Quit your drinking, now's the time
But will he ever walk the line?
To all my friends I feel just great
But will he ever walk the line?

Kicking ass, and busting heads
Red suspenders
Once a day he shaves his head
But will he ever walk the line? [Repeat: x2]

Bob!

My Interpretation:The thing that was getting me about this song is the ending, the lines, "But will he ever walk the line?"
"When the doctor tells him to
Quit your drinking, now's the time
But will he ever walk the line?
To all my friends I feel just great
But will he ever walk the line?"

I suppose they mean, if it's not one thing, it's another with BoB. He drinks until his liver explodes, then he just gets high on cocaine. Is it about concern for their friend?? Just seems anachronistic when singing about a tough guy.

My Interpretation:I always though that this song's about a slacker, who doesn't get a damn 'bout anything and prefer to ignore problems, not to fix 'em.

General Comment:People either love or hate NOFX. There is no in-between. But because they have never been the flavor of the month, not everyone has heard them. Whenever I meet a person who hasn't heard them, I usually start them off by introducing them to Bob. I think Bob is a great place to begin when getting familiar with NOFX. I'm not sure what the first song I heard was but I know that Bob is the first one that made me say, "Wow."

Song Meaning:the song is about a dude named bob who drank to much and killed his liver, he got pissed off at the world and became a skinhead and started beating the crap out of people. the chant of oi oi oi in the song is a reference to the type of music skinheads listen to called oi

General Comment:just a theory, but could this song be about Tim Armstrong during the days before Rancid. He was told to stop drinking by Matt Freeman, his brother and a bunch of other people, and he eventually did. His drinking habit caused him to loose some of his hair, hence the hats aand mohawks that he always has. After he did "walk the line" he formed Rancid, and "kicked in heads at punk rock shows." the timing fits to, but idk, just a theory.
