I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did I want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

Candles raise my desire
Why I'm so far away
No more meaning to my life
No more reason to stay
Freezing feeling, breathe in - breathe in
I'm coming back again

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

Hazing clouds rain on my head
Empty thoughts fill my ears
Find my shade by the moon light
Why my thought aren't so clear
Demons dreaming breathe in, breathin'
I'm coming back again

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

I'm not the one who's so far away
When I feel the snake bite enter my veins
Never did want to be here again
And I don't remember why I came

Voodo [Repeat x8]

So far away
I'm not the one who's so far away [Repeat x3]

General Comment:I got a chance to catch Godsmack a couple years back when they were doing the acoustic tours. The venue held less than 500 so you could hear them talk all the way in the back so they took the opportunity to answer questions. One of the things they did was explain each song before playing it. "Voodoo" and "Serenity" were the only two songs he wrote that had no personal meaning whatsoever. Somebody yelled "Voodoo is about heroin addiction isn't it?" and Sully laughed and said "No, no, no, no, f*** no. It's about the movie 'The Serpent and The Rainbow' 100%. We all love that movie and I wrote the song while watching it so if you do the whole Pink Floyd-Wizard of Oz thing with Voodoo and that movie, the song explains its self to what is going on with the film.". He then explained outside of a drinking problem years ago, he never used heroin so he would have no idea how to write a song of its powerful addiction (even his recent autobiography confirms he has never used heroin).
The bands name, according to Sully, was a story about making fun of a friend years ago with a cold sore or something on their lip. The next day, he woke up with one and somebody commented "It looks like God smacked you in the face for making fun of the other guy". But Robbie Merrill said he liked the name because of the Alice in Chains song "God Smack". But they both agreed the bands name wasn't about drugs, Satan, or anything else.

General Comment:It could be about any additio (such as young girls), although the title would indicate it's about H.

Song Meaning:There are quite a few opinions on the meaning of the song, and the majority of you seem to have gotten it right. This song is definitely about drug addiction, specifically heroin. You know the band, or at least one or more of the band members, have had more than a few run-ins with IV heroin use. Anybody who disagrees needs to look at the band name, it's slang for really strong and potent heroin. The interpretation I wrote below isn't 100%, just my opinion. Though, I have had an on and off again heroin addiction for the past 7 years, so I'm probably spot on.

The chorus is obviously about a needle being injected. Long-term heroin addicts don't actually enjoy their habit and want to stop, they just can't, hence "Never did I want to be here again. The next line in the chorus is something a lot of heroin users run into. They started using for some reason or another, but they have been using for so long and are so strung out that they don't even remember why they started in the first place (the heroin has helped them forget, it has done it's job). Nine Inch Nail's song "Love is Not Enough" has similar lyrics in the first verse.

The first word of the first verse is a dead giveaway to heroin use, seeing that a lot of users use candles to cook up their dope, and sit in candlelight as the rush hits. Shinedown's "Save Me" has lyrics similar to this. When you're really high on heroin, users use the phrase "I'm froze" hence "Freezing feeling." "Breath in breathe in I'm coming back again" sounds exactly like what is going on after you release the belt and the rush of heroin first hits your brain.

The next verse describes the heroin buzz after the rush: hazy and foggy head, empty or unclear thoughts, etc. Heroin can either give a very euphoric and cuddly high, or a numb dark and dirty high. The outlook the high gives you depends on your current emotions and state of mind. It sounds like he is in a dark place in his life when you consider the lyrics "Find my shade by the moonlight" and "Demons dreamin." This can also give depth into the voodoo theme of the entire song.

    My Opinion:It's talking about herion.
Any abuser of herion knows how addictive the drug is.
Snake bite refers to the injection of herion and how "far out" he becomes when high on it. The demons could also refer to the drug and how it's so tempting that he can't resist it.
The lyrics "Never did I wanna be here again, But I don't remember why I came" tells that
the user doesn't want to continue shooting herion, but he can't stop because he's already hooked.
He himself is taking chances with his life. Think of it as him holding a voodoo doll of him sticking needles through it.
It's a never ending cycle of him wanting to be through for good, but he keeps coming back to it. He feels his life has no meaning and he feels no reason to stay. Thinking herion will uplift him, the after-affects only make him worse.
He realizes he needs change but he's already too deep into the drug to stop.

The line "I'm not the one whose so far away" confuses me. Can't quite figure out what he means by that..
