Lyrics for I'll Stick Around as interpreted by 3ssence

I'll Stick Around Lyrics
I thought I knew all it took to bother you
every word I said was true that you'll see
how could it be I'm the only one who sees your rehearsed insanity
I still refuse all the methods you've abused
it's all right if you're confused let me be
I've been around all the pawns
you've gagged and bound
they'll come back and knock you down and i'll be free
I've taken all and I've endured
one day it all will fade
I'm sure
I don't owe you anything
I had no other hand in your ever desperate plan
it returns and when it lands words are due
I should've known we were better off alone
I looked in and I was shown
you were too
I've taken all and I've endured
one day it all will fade
I'm sure
I don't owe you anything
I'll stick around and learn
from all that came from it

I don't know if this is a friend/Kurt/Parents/girlfriend he's talking about. But they've done some awful things and he's ready to get away from them. I used to think it was about a preachy mom, because I mistakenly thought the "and learn from all that came from it" part was "her bible paid my debt" But alas, I was wrong about the lyric. I like it though, and might put it in a sing myself.

I always thought this song was in response to Courtney Love and her manipulative wheeling and dealing in the music industry. When she was arranging the soundtrack for The Crow: City of Angels, she was calling every famous "grunge" band she could think of. If they weren't interested, she would shout in the phone, "You OWE me!!! You OWE me!!!" Please note that the Foo Fighters are mysteriously absent from that soundtrack.

courteney love, to make a tired and unoriginal point, is indeed a bitch, and this song is most definitely about her

I think Dave deserves a little more credit. This song isn't nearly as literal as some make it out to be.

FWIW, Foo Fighter songs have no deliberate intent behind them. Dave has said so in interviews. It's merely what the song means to the listener, largely through the experiences of your life.

One of the best Foo songs, period. IMO it's clearly about Courtney Love and how she'll eventually get her just desserts. It's a stretch but it may also hint that Dave thinks she killed Kurt and knows about it and when she's caught, he'll be free.

Just because someone doesn't like a band you like, doesn't mean they 'know nothing about music.' To him, by liking Nirvana, you know nothing about music. When it all boils down, we all have different opinions of what is good music and what isn't. But they are just that. OPINIONS. Jump off the defensive and just chill. Try not to think about it too much and stay on topic.

Anyway, I think the hypothesis about it being about Courtney Love getting what's coming around is a great assertion.

As already said, not everything has to be about Kurt/Courtney/Nirvana. I hate how all you people seem to think that is all that Dave is capable of writing about. Frankly, Dave is much more talented then Kurt ever was, and as for Farhad, you're the idiot. Nirvana doesn't deserve to be compared to Pink Floyd and Queen. Those bands were influential and huge because of talent and originality. Nirvana is influential because the singer is dead.

Farhad... I'm amused by you... And not in a good way either. Just because someone doesn't like one of those 3 bands, doesn't mean they are a moron. In my opinion, which means nothing more than anyone elses, you are a moron for calling people morons for not liking those bands. Sure they are influential, there's no denying that. I don't listen to music because it's influential, I listen to music because it sounds good. And, while Queen and Nirvana may have been 'very influential', Queen sounds like ass and Nirvana had about 1.5 good songs.

... Oh, and I don't like Linkin Park or Limp Bizkit either, so don't even try to start tossing that on me.

Why you Americans are so fucking dumbass?!
For fucking god sake try to understand!

I didn't say that i like Nirvana because it's influential! all i said was a reply to that bastard(Jakebert ) who said: Nirvana is influential because the singer is dead.
So what about The Doors?! is it influential because Jim Morrison is dead?!
Or The Beatles?! is it influential because John is dead?!

and you hydrogen!
I'm amused by you too! u know why?! because you think that you understand music! if you really listened to music because it sound good, you wouldn't say that "Queen sounds like ass and Nirvana had about 1.5 good songs."

... Oh, and you don't deserve more that Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit!

FUCK YOU ALL!

Hey hydrogen? I don't mean to sound like our dear resident Rainman, Farhad, here... but fuck you.

That was for the Queen comment. ^^

Now that I have that off my chest, I just wanted to throw in here that it is so Goddamn annoying going through each and every Foo Fighters song on this site and finding nothing but "Kurt this" and "Courtney that"... "Nirvana this" and "Hole that." Dave Grohl has a past that he shares part of with those two individuals, for better or for worse.

With that said, Foo Fighters has not a fucking thing to do with either of them. Ever. Foo is Chris, Nate, Taylor, and Dave's fucking band. They are not a Nirvana sideshow, and it irks me greatly to constantly see the infectious idiocy that seems to have hold of at least half of you... their supposed fans. Why would fans relegate one of their favorite bands to such a status? I can't figure this one out for the life of me.

Just, seriously... get a clue. I'd mention the one Foo song that probably has anything to do with not just Kurt, but Krist, as well, but then I'd sound just like the rest of you bafoons.

Although the Courtney Love theory is certainly possible, and although I can't stand her personally, I don't think this song is about her. The lyrics are too "vague" and indirect to imply Courtney and ONLY courtney. As some have mentioned, it only means what the listener wants it to mean :D :)

Dave is so talented. He was (and still is) probably the best drummer ever, and he doesn't mind getting behind the drums every now and then to do the drumming for the songs himself! Way to go Dave. Keep up the good work :)

i think regardeless of what the song means it is a fucking ace song, and well before i tried to understant its meaning it was probably my favourite foo song, with the foos being my favourite band.certainly up there, i got mental at the end bit when the 'i'll stick around but' kicks in.

in terms of meaning though, ive started to take to this song more personally recently after being dumped by my girlfriend.to me its a bit of a 'war cry'. like 'fuck you you can knock me down but im just going to get back up again'. also contains a lyric which means a lot to me in terms of learning from past mistakes in life (in my case, all the things i did wrong to end up getting dumped after 2.5 years), with "I'll stick around, I'll stick around, learn from all that came from it". which to me basically says I seem really down and depressed right now like I'm never going to recover, but don't you worry, I'll be back (I'll stick around) and whats more I'm going to come back a better person (learn from all that came from it).

Thats how I apply the song to myself these days anyway, and since some people have said dave says the songs are for your own interpetations, it works for me. However, it was my favourite foo song before i tried to work out any meanings anyway.

this is obviously about courtney love and how she fucked kurt about, and how dave saw right through her from the beginning. "I've been around all the pawns/you've gagged and bound" - one of her 'pawns' was obviously kurt.
also probably a reaction to her claiming the rights to nirvana's songs, too.
