I wasn't looking for a lifetime with you
And I never thought it would hurt just to hear
"I do" and "I do"
And I do a number on myself
And all that I thought to be
And you'll be the one
That just left me undone
By my own, hesitation

And for the million hours that we were
Well I'll smile and remember it all
Then I'll turn and go
While your story's completed mine is a long way from done.

[Chorus]
Well I'm on a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high
I'd toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high, high

Spring turned to summer
But then winter turned to mean
The distance seemed right
At the time it was best - to leave
And to leave behind
What I once thought was fine And so real - to me
And while I'm still gone
On the quest for my song
I'm at your - celebration

And for the million hours that we were
Well I'll smile and remember it all
Then I'll turn and go
While your story's completed mine is a long way from done.

[Chorus]

Your wagons been hitched to a star
Well now he'll be your thing that's new
Yeah what little I have you can borrow
'Cause I'm old and I'm blue

And for the million hours that we were
Well I'll smile and remember it all
Then I'll turn and go
While your story's completed mine is a long way from done.

Well I'm on a champagne high (so high)
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high (so high)
Toast to the future but that'd be a lie
On a champagne high
Where will I be when I stop wondering why
On a champagne high, high,
So high so high you left me undone
So high, so high you left me undone

Song Meaning:Interestingly, this song is in 3/4 time - same as a (Bridal) Waltz - a little musical irony ;-)

General Comment:This song was playing when i first learned i was getting divorced by my first wife in 2005. We got divorced and all i could think of was this song and feeling sorry for myself. So for the entire year i was on a beer, champagne, and liquor high! I stayed like this until i realized i was only hurting myself. Some relationships look like there meant for eternity, while others get planted and grow for eternity!

General Comment:NO ONE bothered to mention that all of the people in the wedding were wearing white and the bride was wearing black. Obviously going against normal western tradition, the black was a great contrast and it matched what the lead singer wore in the taxi. ITS OBVIOUS the song is about lost love and being at a "celebration", but you can tell by the symbolism that he was NOT at the wedding. I suppose its that fascination that we need to see what we lost and he was doing that from the confines of the "cab".

    General Comment:I love the bit:
"your story's completed mine is a long way from done."
I think it relates to the 'and they lived happily ever after' at the end of fairytales, she has her happy ending but his story isnt finished yet.

General Comment:My favorite sister hazel song. This song line for line is me and my ex. When we met it was by accident. We met online and I swear I put in the criteria people who lived within 15 miles of me with no kids. Some fluke of bad programming pulled up her 70 miles away with one kid. We agreed that neither one was looking for anything long term.
After four years of off and on I decided to move back home for some distance, and hope we could fix things. It was best at the time we both thought. But other people came in, complicated things and we never got back together. Now I'm getting married, happy, and she's still falling in the same traps that broke us up.

General Comment:This song seems to do with a wedding, possibly about a man who is a guest at his ex-girlfriend's wedding. Regret.

But also, female vocals appear when the lyric "and I'm blue" plays.

General Comment:sitting at the wedding of a decade long friend his heart is now filled with regret because he realizes that it could have been so much more if he would not have hesitated. Instead he will raise his glass and lie about being happy for the new couple that should have been him and the girl that he now realizes he wanted that lifetime with.

General Comment:Ken has said before that this song is about how he attended the wedding of his highschool sweetheart. There is a song by Blue October called Congratulations which is also about going to the wedding of your ex. I think I like this better. (i have to i'm a hazelnut lol)
