Lights out
We live in a world
Of darkness
No doubt
Everything's up for sale
We sleep
All of the world is burning
We pray
To god for a better deal
Nothing is sacred
Back then or now
Everything's wasted
Is that all there is?
Can I go now?

Judas my guide
Whispers in the night
Judas my guide

Fight wars
Die in a blaze of glory
Come home
Meat in a plastic sack
Fall down
Better pray to your God
For mercy
So kneel
And help the blade cut clean
Nothing is sacred
Back then or now
Everyone's wasted
Is that all there is?
Is that it now?

I live in the black
I have no guiding light
I'm whispering in your dreams

Judas my guide
Whispers in the night
Judas my guide

Judas my guide
Whispers in the night
Judas my guide

Song Meaning:The following lines are, in my opinion, key here-- "Everything's up for sale", "Nothing is sacred, back then or now", alluding to the vanity of today's world. Judas may be a symbol for that vanity, having commited the ultimate vanity in betraying the son of God for a handful of money. People today are lead by vanity, they have no other "guiding light", like the song says.

I'm not very good at discovering song meanings, but I actually think that this part is talking about the big shit our world is, and this person is turning against God, Judas was the name of Jesus friend who betrayed him.

General Comment:From my experience, people listening to metal now (I can't claim about 20 years ago) are for the most part very intelligent. Probably because metal is not as prominent as other genres, and people listening to metal now are doing it as a personal choice, rather than just settling for what they've been offered.

As for the song, considering how things are now, as arranged by the successors of Peter, we would have been better of with Judas as our guide. Hence, "Judas my guide"

General Comment:I've noticed how educated IM and metal fans are compared to fans of almost any other genre...just thought I'd put that out there. Too many people make misconceptions about metal and IM...when I just wish they'd play it on the radio instead of this Metallica everything in E Minor bullshit!

General Comment:I think this song is really just about being lead to follow the wrong path. Or a person who has no direction in there life so they just follow what the 1st thing there told to do.

General Comment:This song could also be a tribute to "Judas Priest", one of the leading bands in The New Wave of British Heavy Metal, from which Maiden found much of their inspiration. Good song.
